[001] - Advchk 1.02
by Stephan Schmieder (http://freshmeat.net/users/ssc_/)
Wed, Nov 15th 2006 23:05
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Security
System :: Monitoring
About: Advchk is a tool for monitoring the security of installed software.
Advisory Check gathers security advisories using RSS/RDF/XML feeds,
compares them against a list of known software, and alerts you if you're
vulnerable. Since adding software lists by hand would be quite a boring
task, advchk leverages your system's package manager for detecting
software. Software installed on remote systems can be monitored by
executing the remote package manager as an SSH ForcedCommand using
Public-key authentication.
Changes: The tool now checks for the touch command in /usr/local/bin and
/usr/bin in addition to /bin.

About: AtoMail is a script that converts mail messages into an RSS feed.
This can be useful for tracking announcement mailing lists in your
favorite RSS reader if no classic RSS feed is available. Messages can be
retrieved from many different sources, including local mailboxes (mailbox,
maildir), remote mailboxes (POP3/IMAP4), and usenet newsgroups (NNTP).

About: The Biomolecule Toolkit is an Open Source library for the
structural modeling of biological macromolecules. The toolkit provides a
C++ interface for common tasks in computational structural biology, to
facilitate the development of molecular modeling, design, and analysis
tools.
Changes: This release represents a complete rewrite and reorganization of
the core stable classes of the Biomolecule Toolkit. Included are classes
for representing atoms, molecules, polymers, and multi-molecule systems,
along with PDB-formatted I/O, mathematical routines, and algorithms that
are useful for molecular modelling.

About: DrKnock is a port knocking solution based on sig2knock by Cappella
and Tan Chew Keong (http://www.security.org.sg/code/portknock1.html).
Right now, the only functional improvement over sig2knock is the ability
to use the client under Windows XP SP2. The client and server work on both
Unix and Windows.
Changes: The knocking method was changed from SYN packets to UDP packets
(to work with Windows XP SP2). The server and client, both for Linux and
Windows, are now under the same code tree. Packet structs were changed to
work with 64-bit architectures.

[007] - Enhanced TightVNC Viewer 1.0.7
by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
Wed, Nov 15th 2006 11:11
Desktop Environment :: Tools
About: The Enhanced TightVNC Viewer package is part of the x11vnc VNC
server project. It provides a native VNC viewer that takes advantage of
new features in x11vnc, e.g. cursor alpha blending and automatic SSL
tunnelling. Some features apply to any VNC server, e.g. automatic SSH
tunnelling. Another goal is to provide a package that conveniently bundles
everything needed for the user to have the enhanced viewer running quickly.
This includes pre-built binaries of the viewer and utility programs for
Windows and many Unix variants, and a GUI to configure and launch the
viewer.
Changes: Native support on Mac OS X is provided by the bundled Chicken of
the VNC viewer.

Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and
can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP
(IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to
provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build
on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.
Changes: The focus of this release is an internal cleanup of the code,
which has allowed a few major performance problems to be fixed, in
particular with respect to database access (IO) and CPU load. The only
major new feature is that gnunet-setup now understands interdependencies
between options.

[015] - idioskopos 0.2.1
by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
Wed, Nov 15th 2006 23:04
Software Development
About: idioskopos (Greek: idio- inward, within, private; -skopos look,
aim, target) is a C++ library that simplifies the addition of object
reflection and introspection to C++ classes. It provides classes for
implementing properties (internal storage), reference properties (a
property interface to an externally stored value under your control), and
virtual properties (a property interface created from get and set methods
you supply). The approach taken is intrusive. One advantage is that
special preprocessors are not necessary, either for your own code or for
those that use your code. A disadvantage of an intrusive approach is just
that; it's intrusive, meaning you must explicitly state what class members
are properties and instantiate them in your constructors.
Changes: This release checks for Boost or std::tr1 smart pointers and will
use std::tr1 if present, and Boost if std::tr1 is not available.

About: mlocate is a new locate implementation. The "m" stands for

[029] - Netdisco 0.95-RC1
by Bill Fenner (http://freshmeat.net/users/fenner/)
Wed, Nov 15th 2006 10:59
Education
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Office/Business
About: Netdisco is a Web-based network management tool. Users can locate
the switch port of an end-user system by IP or MAC address. Data is stored
using a SQL database. Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) optionally provides
automatic discovery of the network topology. The network is inventoried by
both device model and operating system (like IOS). It uses router ARP
tables and L2 switch MAC forwarding tables to locate nodes on physical
ports and track them by their IP addresses. For each node, a time stamped
history of the ports it has visited and the IP addresses it has used is
maintained. It gets all its data, including CDP topology information, with
SNMP polls and DNS queries. Security features include a wire-side Wireless
Access Point (AP) locator.
Changes: This version is a major release with many enhancements, including
Apache2 support, per-port VLAN control on some devices, wireless network
SSID inventory, significantly expanded device support with the support of
SNMP::Info, and many bugfixes. This is a release candidate: nothing is
expected to change before the final release, but users should install to
check the documentation and for unexpected bugs or feature interactions.

Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
Office/Business :: Groupware
About: Open Blue Lab is a RAD framework (MDA based) that transforms UML
models in Web 2.0 portal applications without writing code. It is
currently being used to develop a full Web ERP from scratch. Portal layout
may be configured through the UI, and Ajax and HTML-based forms are
automatically built from XML widget definitions, which may be generated on
the fly from a UML model that describes your information system. Widgets
are dynamically populated, making them data-aware automatically at run
time with no need to code any database interaction. This framework allows
you to focus on Information System design, with forms and portal
architecture being generated automatically.
Changes: The application generator is now able to produce forms with
multiple columns. Columns in which widgets are located must be indicated
in the UML models that describe your application.

makes the installation of sound drivers and configuration of sound cards
very simple. It supports over 200 brand name sound cards, and provides
automatic sound card detection, Plug-n-Play support, support for PCI audio
soundcards, and support for full duplex audio.
Changes: The audio engine has been updated (bugfixes to the OSS 3.99
version). There are proper OS native interfaces and installation for
Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, and UnixWare. There is a CMI8788 audio driver
with 32bit/192Khz/8channel/AC3/SPDIF I/O support. There are updates to the
