Education
Games/Entertainment :: Simulation
Scientific/Engineering

About: ACT-RBOT + MRS is a cognitive agent-based social simulation toolkit
(RBOT+MRS) and production system based on ACT-R for modelling single actor
cognitive experiments (RBOT) and multiple actors in a simulated (semiotic)
world (RBOT + MRS).

[002] - amavisd-new 2.4.4
  by Mark Martinec (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmartinec/)
  Tue, Nov 21st 2006 02:58

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between
MTAs and one or more content checkers, including virus scanners, and/or
the Mail::SpamAssassin Perl module. It talks to an MTA via (E)SMTP or
LMTP, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design,
which could cause a mail loss. It is normally positioned at or near a
central mailer, not necessarily where the user's mailboxes and final
delivery takes place.

Changes: The program now checks for already running daemons when starting.
A setting to allow amavisd-new in a milter setup to coexist with
dkim-milter and dk-milter was added. A new configuration variable allows
for selective disabling of header checks. The SQL data type of a
quarantined mail text was changed to avoid it being associated with a
character set. The timer is now restored after decoding of a textual mail
part. The check for all-whitespace header lines was rewritten to avoid
slow evaluation of a regular expression. Double insertion of the SA
summary when defanging is now avoided. Group write access to a socket in a
Courier setup is now allowed.

  Tue, Nov 21st 2006 02:59

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers

About: AXIGEN is a fast, reliable and secure mail server with an open
architecture. It is designed for easy management and allows full control
of the email traffic from a central Web/CLI admin module. AXIGEN provides
ESMTP, IMAP, and POP3 services and has been tested with standard mail
clients. A special Webmail module enables email access and delivery from
Web browsers. During the evaluation period, users are provided with full
technical support.

Changes: This version features a localized, redesigned skinnable Web mail
system, a local address book, and a wizard for creating email delivery
rules and auto-responses. The reporting engine now has more than 100
configurable reports. DomainKeys was implemented. Backup and restore is
now possible with a proprietary FTP server. Public folders and
internationalized search were added.

[004] - Axiomatic Multi-Platform C 1.5.3 (Mac OS X)
  by napi (http://freshmeat.net/users/napi/)
  Tue, Nov 21st 2006 05:31

Software Development :: Compilers

About: Axiomatic Multi-Platform C (AMPC) is a C to Java class file
compiler suite for the development of platform independent applications.
AMPC can also be used to integrate C and Java programs since AMPC's C
functions can directly call numerous Java methods and vice versa. AMPC
supports a very large subset of ANSI C (1989). It can be used to develop
new applications using C as well as port existing applications written in
C to run on JVM enabled devices. A JNI (JVM Native Interface) feature is
available for calling native C or C++ functions. The asm() directive can
be used to embed Jasmin assembly code within C source code. Support for
the SWT (Standard Widget Toolkit) based graphics API is available. J2ME
CDC 1.1 for mobile devices is also supported.

Changes: A bug related to the handling of very long function names was
fixed.

[005] - BMP 0.34.5
  by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
  Tue, Nov 21st 2006 13:25

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: BMP is a media player which provides a very easy-to-use interface
and usage semantics for all tasks, while having extensive standards and
services support under the hood (MusicBrainz, Last.fm radio/scrobbling,
HAL, DBus), yet keeping the details out of the way of the user.

Changes: A bug with the lastfm queue was fixed, in which the queue would
get truncated after submitting the first batch of tracks if it contained
more than 10 items. Various other bugfixes all around were made. Hal
client code was changed to store volumes fully qualified by volume and
device UDI, as it's possible to have the same volume identifier on/from a
different device. Various bugfixes were made to the CD ripping code.
Library performance was improved by caching the result of various
operations. The i18n system was moved to glib-based i18n.

[007] - Conary 1.0.39 (1.0)
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Tue, Nov 21st 2006 13:59

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: Two minor bugs in dependency discovery introduced for unsual
cases in the previous version are resolved. The X.org mirror system is now
explicitly supported. The cvc diff command reports status explicitly
through return code.

About: Crackup is a pretty simple, pretty secure remote backup solution
for folks who want to keep their data securely backed up but aren’t
particularly concerned about bandwidth usage. Backups are compressed and
(optionally) encrypted via GPG and can be transferred to the remote
location over a variety of protocols, including FTP. Additional storage
drivers can easily be written in Ruby.

Changes: This release fixes a bug with the handling of symbolic links in
Unix, and looks for gpg.exe in the registry if it isn't found in the
system path in Windows.

  Tue, Nov 21st 2006 11:25

Desktop Environment

About: Damn Small Linux is a business-card size (50MB) Live CD Linux
distribution. Despite its minuscule size it strives to have a functional
and easy to use desktop.

Changes: The mount tool for "after boot" pendrive detection and support
is improved. Reported issues with the mount tool have been fixed (sort
order and missing devices). Incomplete Lua5.1 conversions of
dslMirrorSel.lua and icontool.lua have been fixed. .jwmrc has been
updated for recent menu changes. The hard drive install has been updated
for consistent fstab for CD- ROM and floppy. The hard drive install uses
lilo to partition instead of MBR. Frugal lilo has been updated: the hda

Education
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development

About: DrScheme is a graphical environment for developing programs using
the Scheme, MzScheme, and MrEd programming languages. DrScheme runs under
Windows 95/98/NT, MacOS, and Unix/X. DrScheme's features include source
text highlighting of syntax and run-time errors, support for multiple
levels of Scheme from beginner to advanced, an algebraic stepper for the
beginner language, interactive and graphical static analysis, a graphical
user interface (GUI) library, objects, threads, modules, exceptions,
TCP/IP, regular expressions, and filesystem support.

Changes: A macro stepper for DrScheme was added. A Lazy Scheme language
was added, similar to Scheme with call-by-need semantics. You can mix lazy
code with eager code using a lazy language module. Support was added for
prompts and composable continuations, resembling Sitaram's tagged "%" and
"fcontrol" operators. A new "control.ss" library provides "prompt",
"control", "shift", "reset", "spawn", "splitter", and "cupto". New regexp
support includes "Perl-compatible" features and improved performance.
Compiler improvements include a lambda-lifting pass and better handling of
"call-with-values". The "readline" collection is included.

  Tue, Nov 21st 2006 11:20

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based

About: GhostKit allows you to build a live CD from a Slackware
installation. It includes several build and development scripts,
documentation, example files of what must be altered in /etc/rc.d, and
much more. Instead of shipping with a particular kernel version, the
scripts build it from whatever version you have. It requires at least
kernel version 2.6.9 with patches for SquashFS and UnionFS.

[036] - PHP Printer Friendly Pages Generator Class 1.1
  by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
  Tue, Nov 21st 2006 03:02

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: PHP Printer Friendly Pages Generator Class is a PHP class that
helps you create printer-friendly versions of your page very easily. All
you need to do is to insert some custom tags in your pages, which will
tell the script what needs to be printed from that specific page. An
unlimited number of areas can be set for printing, allowing you a flexible
way of setting up the content to be printed. The output is template driven.
The script can be instructed to transform links to a readable format or to
remove img tags and replace them with a string.

Changes: You can now include extra content in the printer-friendly version
of the page. This content does not appear in the original version as it is
rendered as a comment by the browser. This is done using the newly added
<-- PRINT: start-extra and PRINT: stop-extra --> tags.

About: RefleX is a Java tool that allows people that have no particular
knowledge of Java to write smart programs entirely in XML. The concepts of
native XML programming used in RefleX have been designed separately, so
that other implementations on other platforms/languages can be considered.
As the tags used are considered "active", the underlying concepts have been
named "Active Tags". Programming in XML allows developers to efficiently
produce batch scripts as well as Web applications. With Active Tags, you
can dramatically decrease the number of lines you have to code.

Changes: This release introduces XUnit, a tool that helps to design test
suites for programs that are dealing with XML data. One of the most
outstanding new features is the ability to filter SAX streams with XPath
patterns: the tutorial section has a runnable example where a 15Mo file is
connected to a SAX pipeline with a rule-based filter. XInclude and the
XPointer framework are also supported. You can XMLize raw text with a
tokenizer or XPath patterns.
