[001] - Advchk 1.20
by Stephan Schmieder (http://freshmeat.net/users/ssc_/)
Sun, Feb 18th 2007 14:53
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Security
System :: Monitoring
About: Advchk is a tool for monitoring the security of installed software.
Advisory Check gathers security advisories using RSS/RDF/XML feeds,
compares them against a list of known software, and alerts you if you're
vulnerable. Since adding software lists by hand would be quite a boring
task, advchk leverages your system's package manager for detecting
software. Software installed on remote systems can be monitored through
nmap scans or by executing the remote package manager as an SSH
ForcedCommand using Public-key authentication.
Changes: Support for the IRIX package manager 'inst' was added. Some regex
improvements were made. The output of !debug is less verbose now. Upgrading
to this release requires "advchk -R host -A host" for each SSH host.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Processing :: Indexing
About: Apache Lucene is a high-performance, full-featured text search
engine library written entirely in Java. It is suitable for nearly any
application that requires full-text search, especially cross-platform.
Changes: There are many new features, optimizations, and bugfixes since
2.0, including lazy field loading, simple deletes via IndexWriter, and
lockless readers/commits. This release includes index format changes that
are not readable by older versions. It can both read and update older
Lucene indexes. Adding to an index with an older format will cause it to
be converted to the newer format.

[003] - Aqualung 0.9beta7.1
by Peter Szilagyi (http://freshmeat.net/users/peterszilagyi/)
Sun, Feb 18th 2007 07:45
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
About: Aqualung plays audio CDs and audio files with no gaps between
adjacent tracks. It supports high quality sample rate conversion between
the file and the output device. It supports almost all sample-based,
uncompressed formats (WAV, AIFF, AU, etc.) and files encoded with FLAC,
Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Speex, MPEG Audio, MOD Audio (MOD, S3M, XM, IT, etc.),
Musepack, Monkey's Audio Codec, AC3, AAC, WMA, and WavPack. It can play
the music through OSS, ALSA, JACK, or the Win32 Sound API. It provides a
Music Store that is an XML-based music database capable of storing various
metadata about music on your computer.
Changes: Drag and drop from external applications has been fixed. Removing
selected tracks and inverting selection in the playlist are now fast
(optimized and improved). The shortcut 'A' (show active song) does not
interfere with Ctrl+A (select all). Checks have been added for NULL
pointers as a workaround for a TagLib bug. A native WavPack decoder has
been added.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Camera Life is a self-maintaining photo gallery system. It allows
for powerful organization of photos by albums, keywords, and directory
structure. It supports users with different privileges and rolling back
unwanted changes to the site. Installation is simple and done online
through a wizard, without editing configuration files. It supports themes.
Changes: This release's focus has been integration. It includes RSS,
microformats, and compatibility with the Gallery2 API (now you can upload
from iPhoto, Digikam, etc.) Photos may now be rated and commented on. All
code is modular, making it much easier for new hackers to get their feet
wet.

[015] - fetchmail 6.3.7 (Stable)
by Matthias Andree (http://freshmeat.net/users/mandree/)
Sun, Feb 18th 2007 22:23
Communications :: Email
About: Fetchmail is a free, full-featured, robust, well-documented
remote-mail retrieval and forwarding utility intended to be used over
on-demand TCP/IP links (such as SLIP or PPP connections). It supports
every remote-mail protocol now in use on the Internet: POP2, POP3, RPOP,
APOP, KPOP, all flavors of IMAP, and ESMTP ETRN, ODMR, SMTP, LMTP, and
local delivery agents.
Changes: The fixes for the password leak in 6.3.6 unfortunately entailed
two regressions: KPOP became non-functional, and a POP3+TLS connection
loss would not lead to a retry without TLS if TLS was optional for the
connection. These bugs have been fixed.

About: mod_musicindex is an Apache module aimed at being a C alternative
to the Perl module Apache::MP3. It allows nice displaying of directories
containing MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, or MP4/AAC files, including sorting them
on various fields, streaming/downloading them, constructing playlists, and
searching. It also provides features such as RSS and Podcast feeds,
multiple CSS support, and archive downloads.
Changes: This release supports all 3 generations of Apache (1.3, 2.0, and
2.2). It introduces the ability to use local images for the footer, and
moves most of the images to the CSS, making the output even more tunable.

[032] - PHP HTML Form Generation and Validation Class 1.0 BETA 3
by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
Sun, Feb 18th 2007 15:10
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP HTML Form Generation and Validation Class is an HTML form
generation and validation class. It provides an easy and intuitive way to
handle both HTML form design (based on templates) and basic server-side
form validation. Custom validation (both server-side and client-side) can
also be implemented very easily. It provides all of the basic controls
available in HTML form, including text fields, buttons, image controls,
hidden fields, file upload controls, a CAPTCHA control, and a date picker.
Changes: For the 'select' control, if options were specified having
literal keys and the 'mandatory' rule was set, the control would never
pass validation. This has been fixed. A major security issue was fixed
where an attacker could inject arbitrary HTML and/or JavaScript code along
with the submitted data. Now all the submitted data is passed through the
htmlentities() function and, if magic_quotes are on, is stripslashed. File
uploads were not working, because neither "enctype" nor MAX_FILE_SIZE were
set upon the rendering of the form.

unlimited number of areas can be set for printing, allowing you a flexible
way of setting up the content to be printed. The output is template driven.
The script can be instructed to transform links to a readable format or to
remove img tags and replace them with a string.
Changes: Extra content was not appearing in the correct position but at
the end of the content.

[037] - prbeditor 0.9.7
by eduardj (http://freshmeat.net/users/eduardj/)
Sun, Feb 18th 2007 17:03
Text Processing :: Linguistic
About: prbeditor is an editor for Java property resource bundle files. The
application's intent is to help in the localization (l10n) of those
programs that have been internationalized with Java's standard i18n
mechanism. In contrast to other similar tools, it shows the keys and
values of several languages at the same time in a spreadsheet, giving a
global view of the resource files. The tool relies on the application of
regular expresions to organize the keys and filter the visibility of the
files. It includes a spell checker for several languages, based on word
lists which may be downloaded separately.
Changes: This release adds a tool to merge resource file sets. It adds row
bookmarking, key-based and filter-based. Only those translation files that
have been modified are saved. There is row level (icon) and cell level
(border color) indication of spelling mistakes. Key editing autocompletion
has been improved. The open file menu action has been simplified, and now
shows only a regular file chooser. There are minor UI modifications. Bugs
have been fixed related to closing views and tab-close-button positioning.

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Multimedia
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: SnapMatcher is an application intended for photographers, artists,
or image packrats who have very large collections of digital images, some
of which may be duplicates or near duplicates. By identifying images
across multiple formats with the ability to filter out minor edits such as
changes to contrast, brightness, color balance, resizing, or even the
addition of text or borders, SnapMatcher can be a valuable tool in
organizing/culling unwieldy collections.
Changes: This release switches the ordering of file group names and
extensions, and changes the "results" extension to "matches". DB creation
time has been reduced by 30%-40%. Image DB and match results file sizes
have been reduced using relative directory paths and a terser image
signature representation. The ordering of --builddb arguments has changed.

[045] - Spotter 2.3.0
by Ben Crowell (http://freshmeat.net/users/bcrowell/)
Sun, Feb 18th 2007 15:07
Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
About: Spotter is software that can check students' answers to symbolic
and numerical problems in math and science. It recognizes an answer
regardless of the form it's in, and the instructor can put in helpful
hints as responses to frequently-occurring mistakes. Symbolic answers can
be input in a notation closely resembling normal human math notation
(e.g., xy rather than x*y, and sin x instead of sin(x)). Spotter runs as a
Perl CGI application on a Web server; the student doesn't need to install
any software.
Changes: This version adds a general mechanism for creating qualitative
questions using JavaScript, and uses that mechanism to implement
multiple-choice questions.

Communications
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: UDPCast allows to send data simultaneously to many destinations on
a local net. This can for instance be used to install entire classrooms of
PCs at once. The advantage over using other methods (nfs, ftp, whatever) is
that udpcast uses Ethernet's multicast abilities: it won't take longer to
install 15 machines than it would to install 2. The tool comes with a
busybox bootdisk for easy loading of the tool. However, udpcast can also
be started from the command line of an already installed system, and can
be used for other purposes than just system installation.
