[001] - 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons Character Generator 3.3
by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 11:32
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator is an
HTML/JavaScript Web page that allows the user to quickly and easily create
new Dungeons and Dragons characters. The characters can be of any of the
eleven classes, any of the playable races, and may start at any level from
1 to 220. Generation requires some simple input, after which the character
is displayed on a basic character sheet. It allows you to select your
starting stats, add ability points, and pick skills, equipment, feats, and
spells. It runs on most operating systems with most modern browsers.
Changes: When loading a character from a file, the character's race is now
displayed correctly.

[002] - Active Objects 2006-02-18
by Jason Turner (http://freshmeat.net/users/lefticus/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 07:19
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Active Objects is an implementation of the Active Object concept
based on the boost::thread, boost::bind, and boost::function libraries.
The point of the library is to make taking advantage of multiprocessor
machines as easy as possible. The library provides two types of
functionality. The first is the ability to execute a function in a
separate thread and automatically synchronize with the thread when the
return value is needed. The second is the ability to easily create a
message cue for any existing class, and have that class process its
messages asynchronously.
Changes: Asynchronous thread return value synchronization and object
message queues are working.

Office/Business :: Financial :: Investment
About: AIOTrade (i.e. Humai Trader Platform) is a stock technical analysis
platform with a pluggable architecture that is ideal for extensions such as
indicators and charts. It supports parallel quote data retrieval from
Yahoo! or ASCII text files, historical (daily, weekly, and monthly),
intra-day, and real-time charts, and candle, bar, and line charts. It has
a calendar date/trading date view model. "MACD", "OBV", "ROC", "KD",
"BIAS", "DMI", "RSI", "MTM", and "WMS" indicators and drawing of "Line",
"Parallel", "Gann Angle", and "Fibonacci Line" are supported. You can
easily write your own indicators.
Changes: The Yahoo! historical data format changed and has been fixed. A
wrong date shown on chart view was fixed.

[006] - Asymptote 1.21
by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 11:10
Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering
About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: Expressions entered at the interactive prompt are automatically
written to stdout. The routine intersectionpoints returns all intersection
points of two paths. Bounding box computations of paths drawn with
transformed pen nibs were fixed. Transparency and automatic colorspace
promotion are supported when shading and drawing images. A grid3 module
for drawing 3D grids and a binary tree module were added. An optional
labelpath interface to the PSTricks pstextpath macro was implemented for
drawing curved labels along paths. Bibliograpy support was added to the
slide presentation module.

[017] - Cobbler 0.4.0
by Michael DeHaan (http://freshmeat.net/users/mpdehaan/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 13:50
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
System :: Software Distribution Tools
About: Cobbler is a command line tool for configuring provisioning and
update servers. It supports provisioning via PXE, virtualization (Xen),
and re-provisioning an existing Linux system ("auto-kickstarting") when
having a PXE environment isn't possible. The latter two features are
enabled by usage of koan (a client side provisioning application) on the
remote system. Update server features include yum mirroring over rsync://
and integration of those mirrors with kickstart. Cobbler is easy to use
and has an accompanying Python API. It supports RHEL4+, Fedora Core 5+,
and derivative distributions.
Changes: This release adds support for auto-generated PXE menus. Every
install profile in Cobbler can now be chosen from a PXE menu, making for
quick, painless, fully automated installs (and reinstalls) of hardware
"straight off the truck". This release also reinstates Cheetah for use as
a kickstart templating language, allowing more control in templating
kickstarts from Cobbler. Old template files still work, and new ones can
now do more.

[018] - Coccinella 0.95.16
by Mats Bengtsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/matben/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 07:49
Communications :: Conferencing
Communications :: File Sharing
About: Coccinella is a Jabber client with a whiteboard. The whiteboard is
a shared desktop which supports text, drawings, images, and multimedia in
a number of formats, such as MP3 and video. It runs in two main modes, a
peer-to-peer configuration and a mode compatible with the Jabber Instant
Messaging system. A flexible plugin architecture may be used to support
additional formats. It should run on any machine that runs Tcl/Tk.
Changes: New features include dynamic status menus, basic dialogs on Unix,
an avatar settings button and menu, a file/import/emoticons menu command, a
cleaner groupchat dialog with new methods to set subject and nickname, and
collapsible and flexible toolbars. The chat subject is now set by pressing
Return in the subject field. A user's name attribute can now be edited
directly in situ (in roster). URI support was added for the KDE desktop
environment. Support was added to handle xdata forms embedded in normal
messages.

Mon, Feb 19th 2007 11:22
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Networking
About: Condor schedules and runs remote CPU intensive applications using
the idle cycles of distributively owned workstations. It monitors a pool
of machines to find idle machines that are then used to complete submitted
jobs, and also provides checkpointing and remote system mechanisms that
allow for job migration and transparent remote execution.
Changes: This release adds the ability to automatically rebuild the
indexes on the PostgreSQL database tables. It improves file transfer
logging. Serious bugs that were mangling queues, the history file, and job
generation have been fixed.

[020] - CryptoBox 0.3.4 (CryptoBox-Server)
by Lars (http://freshmeat.net/users/sumpfralle/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 08:14
System :: Networking
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based
About: The CryptoBox project wants to bring data encryption to the masses.
It provides two packages: CryptoBox-Server and CryptoBox-CD. The
CryptoBox-Server package adds hard disk encryption to a file server
(running Samba, NFS, DAV, etc.) without annoying its users. The
CryptoBox-CD is targeted at users who want to set up an encrypting file
server without bothering about complicated administration issues.
Changes: This is mainly a bugfix release. Unclean UID handling in the
server wrapper delayed configuration detection, and has been fixed. The
Slovenian and German translations are complete. This release will most
likely be the base of the CryptoBox live-CD.

[025] - eventxx 0.2
by Leandro Lucarella (http://freshmeat.net/users/llucax/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 08:53
Software Development :: Libraries
About: eventxx is a simple, direct, one-header inline C++ wrapper for
libevent. It's just one header file, so using it is just a matter of
copying it into a project. It's designed to be as close to using libevent
as possible without compromising modern C++ programming techniques and as
efficient as possible. Since all implementation is trivial and inline, it
theoretically imposes no overhead at all.
Changes: Documentation fixes and improvements were made. C-like callbacks
now make the void* arg parameter optional (since it uses NULL as default).

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Flickcurl is a C library for calling the Flickr Web service API. It
handles the API signing, token management, and parameter encoding and
decoding, resulting in C functions for the Web services APIs. It uses
libcurl to call the REST Web service and libxml2 to manipulate the XML
responses. The main focus is the read API and especially getting photo and
tag information out. It provides utilities such as "flickcurl" to exercise
the API and "triplr" to get RDF metadata descriptions out of photos, tags,
and machine tags.
Changes: All the Flickr APIs returning context information for photos,
photosets, and pools were added.

[027] - HelenOS 0.2.0.4
by Jakub Jermar (http://freshmeat.net/users/jjermar/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 14:05
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Operating System
System :: Operating System Kernels
About: The HelenOS project is an effort to develop a working operating
system. HelenOS supports SMP, multitasking, and multithreading on 32-bit
and 64-bit, little-endian and big-endian processor architectures, among
which are AMD64/EM64T (x86-64), IA-32, IA-64 (Itanium), 32-bit MIPS,
32-bit PowerPC, SPARC V9, and Xen. The extent to which these architectures
are supported differs from architecture to architecture. Some run on real
hardware, and some run only in a simulator.
Changes: This release brings a more complete and more generic port to
SPARC64, reworked IRQ dispatcher and IPC notifications, a kernel test
framework integrated into the kernel console, thread and task processor
cycle accounting and sampling, cleaned up type dependencies, and the
ability to compile by Objective C and C++ compilers. Many bugfixes and the
integration of a dummy ARM32 port. This release is intended to make a
checkpoint before upcoming changes in the IA-64 port, timeout subsystem,
the addition of RCU synchronization, and componentization of the kernel.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: Htscanner allows one to use htaccess-like files to configure PHP on
a per-directory basis, just like Apache's htaccess. It is especially useful
with fastcgi.
Changes: This release adds a new php.ini option called "stop_on_error".
When set to 1, htscanner returns a failure when an error occurred
internally (cache, doc_root missing, etc.). When set to 0 (the default),
it will always return SUCCESS, which works smoothly when used with a CLI
or with fcgi in a shell.

[032] - Kirocker Music Display 2.0
by Sebien (http://freshmeat.net/users/Sebien/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 09:06
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: Kirocker is a Kicker applet that displays what you listen to in
Amarok. With this panel applet, you always know what you are listening to,
and can watch its cover and star rating: it is always visible. It allows
you to rate your music with one click: you can quickly change the number
of stars of your music from anywhere on your desktop. Finally, it let you
remotely control Amarok with one click from anywhere on your desktop: play
next or previous track, pause, play, and seek to another position in the
current track.
Changes: This version brings an all-new full-screen view with a pretty yet
sober background image. It also adds keyboard navigation, disappearing
control and mouse. The Kicker applet has not been removed because it is
smarter, especially for very small panel sizes. Margins are smaller, the
cover is bigger, and buttons are more reachable. Finally, there are fewer
bugs.

Mon, Feb 19th 2007 06:50
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Wiki
About: KwikWiki is a Web application that enables you to set up a Web site
where anyone can edit the content of a page or add new pages. The system
will track things like recent changes and indicate if a link is dead or
not. It uses a very simple notation to create links and lists and to
format text. KwikWiki also keeps every version of a page that is saved so
you don't have to worry about losing old data. KwikWiki also has a fast
and scalable full-text search functionality that does things like show all
the pages which are related to the current page.
Changes: Lucene is now used for the search. This means searching is both
faster and more scalable. Switching to Lucene means that phrase search,
using double quotes around the phrase, is now suppported. A RelatedPages
section was added on each wiki page. This shows pages that use the same
words as the current page. This makes it easier to navigate larger wikis.
The URLs were reorganized so that they're cleaner and the pages are easier
to bookmark and save.

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP MIME Mail decoder class is a PHP class to parse and decode MIME
email messages. It supports decoding single RFC 2822 MIME messages or
archives that aggregate multiple messages in the mbox format. It can
decode messages read from files or data strings. The bodies of multipart
messages can be decoded into distinct sub-messages. Optionally, the
message body data can be saved to separate files, so the class can handle
messages larger than the available memory. The parser can tolerate some
syntax errors in malformed messages that are not compliant with RFC 2822.

Changes: This release changes the manner in which the chat is loaded:
styles and HTML structure are now loaded by AJAX calls. Thanks to this
improvement, the chat is easier to integrate because the printStyle() and

[063] - Qorus Integration Engine 1.7.1
by David Nichols (http://freshmeat.net/users/david_nichols/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 08:58
Database
Office/Business
Software Development
About: Qorus Integration Engine is a framework for the development and
operation of reliable interfaces. Qorus is a workflow and service platform
based on the Qore programming language; objects taking code attributes are
defined in the Qore language, using Qore and Qorus API calls to interface
with other applications and perform work in a framework that checkpoints
each step and guarantees reliability (as long as simple design criteria
are met). With Qorus it's easy to interface with Oracle and MySQL
databases, communicate using TIBCO messaging or a variety of standard Web
service protocols (with and without encryption), and more in a traceable
and reliable way. The evaluation license is limited to 6 months of use.
Changes: Bugfixes from qore library 0.6.1.1 were added. HTTPServer now
understands "gzip" and "deflate" content-encoding and respects the
client's "Accept-Encoding" headers. Now it's possible to communicate with
the Qore HTTP server using compression at the HTTP protocol level.

Changes: A control port interface to the load balancer core engine has
been implemented. This interface can be used via the same system of shared
object plugins as is currently used for data filters. It enables the load
balancer core to be interrogated as to its internal status, as well as
facilitating advanced statistical information retrieval. It also means
that most of the functionality of the load balancer can be reconfigured on
the fly.

[066] - Seed7 2007-02-19
by Thomas Mertes (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomas_mertes/)
Mon, Feb 19th 2007 13:59
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: Support for hash tables, sets, and console output in compiled
programs was improved. Support for multiple dispatch of interface
(DYNAMIC) functions was added to the compiler. Handling of parameters in
the dispatch functions generated by the compiler was improved. Variable
global arrays and structs in compiled programs are now initialized with a
copy of the initialisation value. The compiler was improved to produce
better code for the primitive actions arr_idx, chr_ge, chr_gt, chr_le,
chr_lt, fil_seek, set_cpy, str_cpy, prc_option, prg_match, ref_itftosct,
typ_isderived, and typ_meta.
