Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development

About: Advanced Website Creator is a Web development environment. Created
websites use an MVC framework written in PHP 5 and a simple database
abstraction layer. At present the database layer supports MySQL and
PostgreSQL as backends. All PHP classes are auto-loaded, so there is no
need to include() or require() files manually. Search engine friendly URLs
are supported via mod_rewrite.

Changes: Projects can now be configured as relocatable. A relocatable Web
site can run from any URL without a change of the base URL path and
subsequent recompiling. Display of the "Debug log", "Prefer action
aliases", and "Relocatable" settings has been added to the project
information page. Every page now contains a link to the support forum in
its bottom left corner.

System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Dar is a shell command that makes backup of a directory tree and
files. Its features include splitting archives over several files, CDs,
ZIPs, or floppies, compression, full or differential backups, strong
encryption, proper saving and restoration of hard links and extended
attributes, remote backup using pipes and external command (such as ssh),
and rearrangement of the "slices" of an existing archive. It can now run
commands between slices, encrypt archives, and quickly retrieve individual
files from differential and full backups. Dar also has external GUI like
kdar for Linux, thanks to the well documented API.

Changes: An important bug has been fixed that affected the saving of hard
linked files when the backup was performed over several filesystems at the
same time and when file filtering excluded some hard linked files. Unix
users of any previous release of dar should review the detailed bug
description (SourceForge #1667400) and either use this version to diff
their old backups with the current filesystem or perform new full backups
of their systems. Other less important fixes have also been made.

About: The GUASI library implements a thread based generic asyncronous
execution engine, to be used to give otherwise synchronous calls an
asynchronous behavior. It can be used to wrap any synchronous call so that
it can be scheduled for execution and whose result can be fetched at a

  Mon, Feb 26th 2007 15:07

Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical

About: Happy Camel is intended to combine digital photos with GPS data. It
can couple a tracklog to a set of digital photos, plot photos with a
position and optionally a tracklog in Google Earth, and figure out the
place names where the photos were taken.

Changes: This release can resolve the name of the place and country using
the online Geonames database. The implicit dependency on PyXML is removed.
A config file has been added. Boolean options can now taken an optional
True or False argument. Short command line options are now reserved for
actions. The places where the GPS didn't have any reception can now be
showed in the KMZ file with a different color and width. The dates/times
in photos can be adjusted to the calibrated value. It is possible to use
geographic information already present in the EXIF data of images.

System :: Archiving
System :: Shells

About: The Heirloom Toolchest is a collection of standard Unix utilities.
It was derived from original Unix material released as open source by
Caldera and Sun, and contains multiple versions of each utility
corresponding to SVID3/SVR4, SVID4/SVR4.2MP, POSIX.2-1992/SUSV2,
POSIX.1-2001/SUSV3, and 4BSD (SVR4 /usr/ucb). It processes lines of
arbitrary length and in many cases binary input data, supports characters
in UTF-8 and many East Asian encodings, and contains more than 100
individual utilities including bc, cpio, diff, ed, file, find, grep, man,
nawk, oawk, pax, ps, sed, sort, spell, and tar. Extensive documentation is
included.

Changes: This release adds a configurable directory for the Heirloom
Development Tools installation, by default "/usr/ccs/bin", which is now
also included in the default path for the "getconf" utility. The "tsort"
utility has been moved into it. The "what" command has been replaced by an
OpenSolaris-based implementation. OpenSolaris-based manual pages are now
used for "bdiff", "newform", and "fspec". The "psrinfo" command has been
fixed to show the "on-line since" value correctly for Linux 2.6.
Provisions for interoperability with SVR4 packaging tools have been added.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting many built-in validation types on server and client
sides. It prevents security attacks by discarding spoofed values, has
multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields displayed as fully
accessible or in read-only mode, and has field value filtering and
reformatting. It can be extended with custom control plug-ins. AJAX based
form submission, upload monitor progress bar, auto-complete text input,
automatic layout renderer, calendar date, CAPTCHA, Google Maps world
location selection, linked select, and animation effects plug-ins are
available.

Changes: The AJAX form submit plug-in was enhanced to present a debug
console that shows the actions being executed during AJAX form submission.
The class now supports input and label title texts that are displayed as
tool tips. The class can now also present an input in read only mode while
its value is passed in an hidden input. The vertical layout plug-in now
supports read-only inputs. The CAPTCHA validation plug-in was enhanced to
avoid form submission when the user types the enter key in the validation
text input.

[043] - Lucene Image REtrieval 0.5.2
  by Mathias (http://freshmeat.net/users/motte/)
  Mon, Feb 26th 2007 14:20

Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Image Recognition
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: The LIRE (Lucene Image REtrieval) library provides a simple way to
create a Lucene index of image features for content-based image retrieval
(CBIR), which allows searching for similar images. The used features are
taken from the MPEG-7 standard: ScalableColor, ColorLayout, and
EdgeHistogram. Furthermore, methods for searching the index are provided.

Changes: This release brings a new descriptor, which is kind of "more
advanced version of a color histogram". The so called "color correlogram"
is based on the probability to find pixels of certain colors in certain
neighborhoods. In general, it is a new way to retrieve photos with LIRe
based on color and color distribution, which might be very interesting for
applications heavily depending on color. This release also contains the
LIRe Demo, a desktop GUI application showing indexing and searching images
using different descriptors.

  by Darren Davison (http://freshmeat.net/users/davison/)
  Mon, Feb 26th 2007 17:20

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: OOWeb is a lightweight, embedded HTTP server for Java applications
that maps objects to URL directories, methods to pages, and
form/query-string arguments as method parameters. This allows for
unparalleled ease in creating, deploying, and testing Web applications.

Changes: This release requires JDK 5 for compilation and runtime. The HTTP
implementation has been replaced with pygmy-httpd. Annotation support has
been added for controllers, security, and caching. There is better
decoupling of Server and handler code, rewritten request processing
workflow and security handling, and the introduction of an object and
method Registry, which greatly improves performance.

[056] - OpenDBX 1.2.2 (Stable)
  by Norbert Sendetzky (http://freshmeat.net/users/nsendetzky/)
  Mon, Feb 26th 2007 17:16

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The OpenDBX library provides a unified and consistent API for
software developers to different database management systems. The function
library is written in the C programming language and aims at implementing
access to the native database interfaces efficiently via a thin
abstraction layer. It consists of a basic set of functions that are part
of all vendor database libraries and can be extended by additional
function blocks. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MS SQL Server, MySQL,
Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite 2 and 3, and Sybase ASE are supported.

Changes: Much testing revealed two major issues in the mssql and sybase
backends. The mssql backend was able to corrupt string values returned by
the server. Similarly, the sybase backend returned no decimal values when
linked against the original Sybase ASE library instead of using the
FreeTDS library. Additionally, some small bugs in the backends were fixed;
most of them in the mssql and sybase backend, but also some in the pgsql,
sqlite, and sqlite3 backends. The mssql, mysql, oracle, and sybase
backends returned backend errors in their init functions, which isn't
allowed.

  Mon, Feb 26th 2007 15:01

System :: Networking
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: OpenL2TP is an L2TP client/server written specifically for Linux.
It has been designed for use as an enterprise L2TP VPN server or for use
in commercial, Linux-based, embedded networking products. It consists of a
daemon, openl2tpd, which handles the L2TP control protocol exchanges for
all tunnels and sessions, a plugin for pppd to allow its PPP connections
to run over L2TP sessions, a Linux kernel driver for efficient datapath,
and a command line application for management.

Changes: This release adds a mechanism by which individual L2TP sessions
will automatically retry if the peer drops the connection. This feature is
useful for ISPs that use multiple sessions in a single L2TP tunnel. Support
for the Linux 2.6.20 kernel has been added. New pre-built RPMs for FC5/FC6
kernel updates are also available.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: W3Perl is a Web logfile analyser. All major Web stats are available
(referer, agent, session, error, etc.). Reports are fully customisable via
configuration files, and there is an administration interface control
available.

Changes: FTP statistics and the Web administration interface have been
improved. Statistics about browsers, OS, and referer have been rewritten.
Remote logfiles can be retrieved before launching the statistics, avoiding
the need to install the package on a server. As usual, many bugs were
fixed.

[085] - WidgetServer 1.3.0
  by Dirk von der Weiden (http://freshmeat.net/users/dvdw/)
  Mon, Feb 26th 2007 10:47

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: WidgetServer is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables
an application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server
Swing app, or as a Web app without any change and without loss of
functionality. A rich widget set is supported that includes tree views,
tabbed panes, split panels, and much more. A unified widget-based,
object-oriented programming interface for Web and Swing GUIs is offered to
the developer to control and assemble the GUI. Web applications are fully
AJAX enabled. For Swing client/server applications, the framework handles
client/server communication, including compression and security layers. A
GUI builder is included.

Changes: This version provides an enhanced window manager for Web
applications. Modal dialogs in Swing work correctly, and border properties
for all components have been added. A new example
'WidgetServer-ComponentSet' has been implemented, and the drag and drop
function for Web applications has been redesigned. Many minor bugfixes are
included.

[088] - Xenomai 2.3
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Mon, Feb 26th 2007 23:33

System :: Emulators

About: Xenomai is a realtime development framework cooperating with the
Linux kernel in order to provide pervasive, interface-agnostic, hard
realtime support to userspace applications, seamlessly integrated into the
GNU/Linux environment. Xenomai is based on an abstract RTOS core, usable
for building any kind of realtime interface, over a nucleus which exports
a set of generic RTOS services. Any number of RTOS personalities called
"skins" can then be built over the nucleus, providing their own specific
interface to the applications by using the services of a single generic
core to implement it.

Changes: An RTDM-based CAN implementation and many architecture-specific
updates and bugfixes.

[089] - XINS 2.0.0-alpha4 (Development)
  by Anthony Goubard (http://freshmeat.net/users/agoubard/)
  Mon, Feb 26th 2007 07:38

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: This version adds Yahoo-style JSON calls, including the callback.
The calling conventions are now only created and initialized when needed.
The generation of the WSDL has been improved as well as the generation of
the API from the WSDL or from the XML Schema. This version also contains
several bugfixes.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: XmlBlaster is XML based MOM (Message oriented Middleware) with a
lot of features. It is a publish/subscribe and point-to-point MOM server
which exchanges XML-encoded messages. Communication with the server is
based on CORBA (using JacORB), RMI, XML-RPC, native socket, or a
persistent HTTP plugin. Subscribers can use XPath expressions to filter
the messages they wish to receive and add their own MIME-based filter
plugins. C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, VisualBasic.net, C#, and PHP client
demos are included in the xmlBlaster test suite, and Tcl and Python demo
clients are scheduled. XmlBlaster also provides a browser callback
framework, allowing browsers (Netscape, Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant
callbacks over a persistent http connection. A security plugin framework
allows authentication/authorization in many ways. Currently there are
LDAP- and passwd-based plugins available.
