Utilities

About: CUPS-PDF is a PDF writer backend for CUPS. It is designed to
produce PDF files in a heterogeneous network by providing a PDF printer on
the central fileserver. It will convert files printed to its queue in CUPS
to PDF and put them in a per-user-based directory structure. It can
execute post-processing scripts, e.g. to allow mailing the results to the
user.

Changes: Enclosing parentheses (), e.g. as those set by CUPS-LPD, will be
removed from the title instead of being converted to _title_. A more
comprehensive identification string was set that will make CUPS set
'CUPS-PDF' as the printer name when adding the printer automatically.

[015] - Epydoc 3.0 beta 1
  by Edward Loper (http://freshmeat.net/users/edloper/)
  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 00:44

Documentation
Software Development
Software Development :: Documentation

About: Epydoc is a tool for generating API documentation for Python
modules, based on their inline documentation strings (docstrings). It
produces HTML output (similar to the output produced by Javadoc) and LaTeX
output. It supports four markup languages for documentation strings:
Epytext, Javadoc, ReStructuredText, and plain text.

Changes: Numerous improvements were made. The most significant change has
to do with the way that Epydoc extracts documentation information about
Python modules. In previous versions, each module was imported and
introspection used to examine its contents. The new version supports
introspection, but is also capable of extracting information by parsing
source code. Furthermore, it can combine information from both
introspection and parsing.

[016] - Fetch and deliver mail 1.0
  by Nicholas Marriott (http://freshmeat.net/users/nicm/)
  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 16:32

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: Fetch and deliver mail is a simple, lightweight replacement for
mail fetching, filtering, and delivery programs such as fetchmail and
procmail. It can fetch using POP3, POP3S, IMAP, IMAPS, or stdin, and

[019] - Genomorama: Genome Visualization 1.5
  by Jason Gans (http://freshmeat.net/users/jgans/)
  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 11:19

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: Genomorama is a software program for interactively displaying
multiple genomes. It provides a powerful yet easy to use interface that
leverages the visualization power of modern computers (via OpenGL) and the
substantial bioinformatic infrastructure provided by the NCBI (via the NCBI
C toolkit). Genomorama is written in portable, highly optimized C++ and
comes in three "flavors" that allow it to run natively on (most) modern
operating systems: OS X (using Carbon), Microsoft Windows (using MFC), and
Linux (using Motif). Executables and source code are freely provided for
all flavors.

Changes: This release fixes the following bugs: parsing gbk files that
contain single base annotations on the complement strand; missed exact
matches at 3' end of target sequence; fragile parsing of annotation range;
downloading of very large Genbank records (i.e. human chromosomes); and
omitted intergenic space following single base annotations (i.e. SNPs).
Custom color records are now saved to and read from GBK files. An OS X
Intel-specific executable has been added. The information dialog box has
been made resizable.

[021] - GluCat 0.2.2
  by Paul C. Leopardi (http://freshmeat.net/users/leopardi/)
  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 16:26

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries

About: GluCat is a library of template classes which model the universal
Clifford algebras over the real or complex fields, with arbitrary
dimension and arbitrary signature. Technically, what GluCat implements is
a model of each Clifford algebra corresponding to each non-degenerate
quadratic form up to a maximum set by the user. GluCat classes are
designed to be used as template parameters for other template libraries,
such as Blitz++, deal.II, Matrix Template Library, and POOMA.

Changes: GluCat, now with Bit Wizardry, is even faster. Various functions
in glucat/index_set_imp.h now use bitwise algorithms whose time is
proportional to the log of the number of bits, or proportional to the
number of bits set to true. These algorithms are taken from and inspired
by Joerg Arndt's "Algorithms for programmers".

  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 06:06

Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Software Distribution
System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: JNC (JavaNativeCompiler) is a Java to native compiler. It allows
ahead of time compilation of your Java applications. With JNC, you can
create real standalone native binaries which will no longer depend on a
JRE. This is especially useful when applications have to be deployed to
end users. Native applications are easier to deploy since the end user
doesn't need to worry about JRE dependency. They are also harder to
decompile, and they load more quickly.

Changes: This release fixes a couple of problems with AWT/Swing and XML.
It also once again contains a version for Linux. The compiler binary
downloads are smaller.

[030] - LambdaRogue 0.1.100a
  by Mario Donick (http://freshmeat.net/users/mariodonick/)
  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 07:06

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: LambdaRogue is a rogue-like role playing game set in the future of
a somehow "parallel world" to our own. People had to go underground to
survive a war between human society and the once peaceful Drakh'Nar,
another species on the planet. People founded the NeoTerr nation and tried
to build up a prosperous civilization. This worked, until suddenly strange
creatures came down the Great River Styx. The river has now become a
source of fear and terror. The player has to follow the river through
NeoTerr and discover the reason. The atmosphere is rather strange,
influcenced by phantasy and cyberpunk.

Changes: This release fixes several bugs found in the last beta (0.1.100).
It also improves some usability issues. Upgrading is strongly recommended.

  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 01:01

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: ModSecurity is an intrusion detection and prevention engine for Web
applications (sometimes called a Web application firewall). Operating
embedded or as part of an Apache reverse proxy, it increases Web
application security, protecting Web applications from known and unknown
attacks. It is flexible and easy to configure. It monitors HTTP traffic
(including POST payloads), detects or prevents attacks, enhances logging,
performs anti-evasion, and allows administrators to create custom rules to
suit their specific needs. It excels in HTTP traffic monitoring and
just-in-time vulnerability patching.

Changes: Improved performance and reduced memory consumption (roughly a
200% improvement measured with real-life traffic). This is the first
version to bundle the generic Web application security rules from the Core
Rules project. The manual has been extensively improved. The ability to
remove rules from within the same context was added. Many other smaller
improvements and many bugfixes were made.

[037] - MultiTail 4.3.1 (Development)
  by Folkert van Heusden (http://freshmeat.net/users/fvh/)
  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 05:57

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
Utilities

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: A label can be set which will be put in front of each line using
'--label "text"'. cnv_ts_format would overrule the the settings for
ts_format, so that has been fixed. -eC/-ec did not work. Compilation fixes
were made for FreeBSD 4.x. Attributes for reverse can now be configured in
the configuration file. Tabs would garble the display. The abort/exit key
can now be configured in the configuration file. The help (-h) output was
updated. The man page was updated.

[049] - Shed Skin 0.0.20
  by srepmub (http://freshmeat.net/users/srepmub/)
  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 03:10

Software Development :: Compilers

About: Shed Skin is an experimental Python-to-C++ compiler. It accepts
pure but implicitly statically typed Python programs and generates
optimized C++ code. This means that in combination with a C++ compiler, it
allows for translation of pure Python programs into highly efficient
machine language. For a set of 16 non-trivial test programs, measurements
show a typical speedup of 2-40 over Psyco, about 12 on average, and 2-220
over CPython, about 45 on average. Shed Skin also outputs annotated source
code.

Changes: Improvements were made to aug assignments with subscripting
('a[x, y] += 1' and such). Some problems with slice assignments were fixed
('a[1:-1] = [1,2]'). Integer division is now equal to CPython for
negative/positive combinations of arguments. Printing of floats is now
closer to CPython. Generic functions/methods were moved to a header file.
Many small fixes were made: 'self' is allowed as a function argument,
list.extend now takes iterable, __delitem__ overloading was implemented,
and raw_input() and 'return' from generator were added. Error checking for
dynamic types was added. expr**2 and expr**3 were optimized using __power2
and __power3 functions.

  Tue, Feb 27th 2007 12:48

Software Development :: Interpreters

About: SISC is an extensible Java-based interpreter of the algorithmic
language Scheme. It uses modern interpretation techniques and handily
outperforms all existing Java interpreters (often by more than an order of
magnitude). In addition, SISC is a complete implementation of the language.
The entire R5RS Scheme standard is supported. This includes a full number
tower including complex number support and arbitrary precision integers
and floating point numbers, proper tail recursion, hygienic macros, and
full support for first-class continuations (not just the escaping
continuations found in many other systems).

Changes: This release fixes annotation stripping in circular lists,
read-block and write-block's optional port argument that wasn't optional,
error handling with recycled continuations, an eval bug where code was
being evaluated in the wrong environment, the return value of read-string
wasn't #!eof on end of file, and recursion bugs in lcm and gcd.

About: Xpdf is a viewer for Portable Document Format (PDF) files. (These
are also sometimes also called 'Acrobat' files, from the name of Adobe's
PDF software.) The Xpdf project also includes a PDF text extractor,
PDF-to-PostScript converter, and various other utilities. It runs under
the X Window System on UNIX, VMS, and OS/2. The non-X components (pdftops,
pdftotext, etc.) also run on Win32 systems, and should run on pretty much
any system with a decent C++ compiler. Xpdf is designed to be small and
efficient. It can use Type 1 and TrueType fonts.

Changes: Anti-aliased vector graphics were added, including stroke
adjustment. PDF 1.6 and PDF 1.7 are supported, including AES decryption
and OpenType fonts. The keyboard and mouse bindings may be configured by
the user. Full-screen mode was improved, with the ability to toggle on the
fly.

Office/Business

About: Yet Another Random Perl Portal (YARPP) is a simple Web portal
environment. YARPP is specifically designed to provide a portal that can
be used to remotely manage small scale firewall products, such as net
Juniper (Netscreen) 5 series devices. As such, it includes configuration
modification utilities, as well as traffic reporting components. It was
designed to allow people to manage and monitor these firewalls while
ensuring that all of the filter modification functions that are available
via the devices' native interface are removed from the user.

Changes: The module send_ssh_command.pl allowed execution of arbitrary
commands on the Web server through manipulation of its input variables.

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: YourKit Java Profiler is a CPU and memory profiler that makes it
easy to solve wide range of CPU- and memory-related performance problems.
It features automatic leak detection, powerful tools for the analysis of
memory distribution, an object heap browser, comprehensive memory tests as
part of your JUnit testing process, extremely low profiling overhead,
transparent deobfuscation support, and integration with Eclipse, JBuilder,
IntelliJ IDEA, NetBeans, and JDeveloper IDEs.

Changes: Less temporarily memory is needed to capture a snapshot. A bug
was fixed that caused invalid snapshots to be produced if the application
was launched with both the profiler and debugger. JBoss with JRockit might
not start up with profiling. JRockit 5.0 R27.1.0 (1.5.0_08) is supported.
Incorrect zero times were reported for some garbage collectors.
