[001] - Active Objects 2007-03-04
  by Jason Turner (http://freshmeat.net/users/lefticus/)
  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 17:20

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Active Objects is an implementation of the Active Object concept
based on the boost::thread, boost::bind, and boost::function libraries.
The point of the library is to make taking advantage of multiprocessor
machines as easy as possible. The library provides two types of
functionality. The first is the ability to execute a function in a
separate thread and automatically synchronize with the thread when the
return value is needed. The second is the ability to easily create a
message cue for any existing class, and have that class process its
messages asynchronously.

Changes: Minor code cleanup and code documentation updates.

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ALE is an image-processing program used for tasks such as
super-resolution, deblurring, noise reduction, and anti-aliasing. Its
principle of operation is synthetic capture, combining multiple inputs
representing the same scene.

Changes: This release adds new weight limiting options to Irani-Peleg and
incremental renderers, and fixes bugs that may cause alignment failure.

[018] - KAlarm 1.4.10 (KDE 3)
  by David Jarvie (http://freshmeat.net/users/djar/)
  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 12:42

Utilities

About: KAlarm lets you configure personal messages to be displayed,
commands to be executed, or emails to be sent, at scheduled times. It
allows you to choose the message font and color, how often to repeat,
whether to display an advance reminder, whether to speak the message or
play a sound when it is displayed, and whether to cancel the alarm if it
can't be triggered on time (e.g. if you are logged out at the time). As
well as using the graphical interface to configure alarms, you can use the
command line, and there is a DCOP interface for other applications.

Changes: A test button was added in the sound file selector dialog. Start
of day time is no longer ignored for date-only alarms. Unwanted alarms for
simple repetitions and on recurrence exception dates are now suppressed.
Correct menus are shown even after customizations. Other bugs were fixed.
Kazakh and Nepali translations were added.

  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 01:06

About: KeyFrog monitors the keyboard and visualizes its usage statistics.
The user can obtain much information about keyboard activity: the
intensity of keyboard usage, how was it distributed in time, which
applications were used, etc. This may be very useful, for example, to
developers to monitor their productivity.

Changes: Much work was done on the build system. The main KeyVis features
are implemented and working. Code cleanup, bugfixes, and documentation
enhancements were made. A binary package for Ubuntu 6.06 was created.

[020] - Kirocker Music Display 2.2
  by Sebien (http://freshmeat.net/users/Sebien/)
  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 08:53

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Kirocker is a Kicker applet that displays what you listen to in
Amarok. With this panel applet, you always know what you are listening to,
and can watch its cover and star rating: it is always visible. It allows
you to rate your music with one click: you can quickly change the number
of stars of your music from anywhere on your desktop. Finally, it let you
remotely control Amarok with one click from anywhere on your desktop: play
next or previous track, pause, play, and seek to another position in the
current track.

Changes: This new version centers on making the applet always look good on
any panel orientation, size, and background color. For instance, the
progress bar is moved on top of the text if there is more place there, to
make the cover art look bigger, and the reflection is removed for small
panels, for the same reason. Lot of other minor bugs were solved.

[024] - MirBSD Korn Shell R29
  by mirabile (http://freshmeat.net/users/mirabile/)
  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 19:36

System :: Shells

About: The MirBSD Korn Shell (mksh) is an actively developed successor of
pdksh (the Public Domain Korn Shell), aimed at producing a shell good for
interactive use, but with primary focus on scripting. It is intended to be
portable to most *nix-like operating systems as long as they're not too
obscure. mksh incorporates improvements from OpenBSD and Debian, as well
as bugfixes and enhancements developed for the MirOS and FreeWRT projects.
The emacs command line editing mode is UTF-8 capable. The shell supports
large files, as well as all pdksh and some csh, AT&T ksh, and GNU bash
features, is compatible with the Bourne shell (within limits, but you can
turn off brace expansion), has no limit on array sizes, and incorporates
some other useful builtins and features. While being already fast and
small (without losing functionality), flags to make it even smaller can be
given at compile time. An interactive shell reads "~/.mkshrc" on startup.

[040] - Seismic ToolKit 0.46
  by Dominique Reymond (http://freshmeat.net/users/Reymond/)
  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 17:20

Scientific/Engineering

About: Seismic Toolkit is a tool for processing and displaying seismic
signal data in a graphical interface. It reads seismic signals in SAC
format, and provides a variety of signal processing, such as filtering,
spectral analysis, polarisation analysis, time-frequency representation,
Hilbert transform, and singular value decomposition. Some utilities are
included for useful seismological applications, like computation of
Seismic Moment Mo, Mantle magnitude Mm and Moment magnitude Mw, MTPA
spectral analysis, plotting focal mechanisms, computation (and plotting)
of instrumental response from poles and zeros, and some usefull GMT
(Generic Mapping Tool) scripts for plotting signals, responses, and
time-frequency in Postscript files for high quality prints.

Changes: PPOL (P wave POLarisation) has been added, which was developed
for a study on anisotropy of the earth mantle deduced from the anomaly of
the azimuth of P wave. The principle is to automatically select a window
centered on the P wave, and to compute the eigen direction of the linear
vibration vector. The window containing the P wave is calculated from the
origin time and coordinates of the hypocenter using the IASPEI time
tables.

[042] - Smieciuch++ 0.6.4 rc3
  by Sebastian Kaliszewski (http://freshmeat.net/users/sebaska/)
  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 09:10

Other/Nonlisted Topic
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Smieciuch++ is a tiny and portable precise garbage collection
library for C++. It is lightweight and easy to integrate into an existing
project. The code is nearly pure standard C++, so it's also very portable.
Precise collection means that the library knows what is a pointer and does
not need to guess (as typical GC solution does).

Changes: A critical flaw which corrupted memory when new(GC) was called
inside a constructor called by another new(GC) was fixed. Fixes were made
for MSVC 6.0 compilation problems. A new method was devised for
dynamically determining when to collect garbage. This brings better
performance without fine tuning. The initial collection threshold was
increased from 256KB to 4MB of allocated data. Assertions for smart
pointer validity was added for debug builds. The source and makefiles were
cleaned up a bit.

[043] - SnapMatcher 0.3
  by Matt Heinzen (http://freshmeat.net/users/Arkaein/)
  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 17:15

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Multimedia
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: SnapMatcher is an application intended for photographers, artists,
or image packrats who have very large collections of digital images, some
of which may be duplicates or near duplicates. By identifying images
across multiple formats with the ability to filter out minor edits such as
changes to contrast, brightness, color balance, resizing, or even the
addition of text or borders, SnapMatcher can be a valuable tool in
organizing/culling unwieldy collections.

Changes: Image databases can now be updated efficiently instead of
recreated from scratch each time matches need to be found. Moved files are
updated by path, and signatures are (re)generated for new or modified
images. Matches for updated image databases can also be found efficiently,
ignoring image pairings that have already been tested. This version
contains a bugfix allowing image databases to be successfully created on
Windows platforms.

[045] - SRESI 0.18.3

  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 01:15

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: Hints are now managed through hash tables. The PHP-specific
options are now hidden in the standard program call. The tree generation
algorithm handles multi-hint branches more gracefully.

[047] - sysstat 7.1.2
  by Sébastien Godard (http://freshmeat.net/users/godard/)
  Sun, Mar 4th 2007 08:44

System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: The sysstat package contains the sar, sadf, iostat and mpstat,
commands for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system activity
information. The sadf command may be used to display data collected by sar
in various formats (XML, database-friendly, etc.). The iostat command
reports CPU statistics and I/O statistics for tty devices and disks. The
mpstat command reports global and per-processor statistics. The
information collected by sar can be saved in a file in a binary format for
future inspection. The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer
rates, paging activity, process-related activites, interrupts, network
activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU utilization, kernel
activities, and TTY statistics, among others. Both UP and SMP machines are
fully supported.

Changes: Hotplug CPU support was improved. Now sysstat no longer assumes
that CPU#0 can never be disabled. Various structures were realigned to
save memory (and disk space). sar -n now displays network traffic in
kilobytes instead of bytes. sysstat now compiles cleanly with gcc 4.0.2.
NLS was updated, and a Danish translation was added.

available to limit the visible entries by definable criteria. Full
customization for printing is possible through editing the default XSLT
file. It can import CSV, Bibtex, Bibtexml, RIS, MODS, CDDB, and audio file
metadata and exports CSV, HTML, Bibtex, Bibtexml, ONIX, and PilotDB.
Entries may be imported directly from Amazon.com, imdb.com, any z39.50
bibliographic server, PubMed, or an external script.

Changes: The IMDB search was updated. Sorting was fixed for entries with a
rating of 10. Dependent fields now follow the field formatting rules. The
MODS import was relaxed to accept any results with typeOfResult = 'text',
and several bugs with translation issues were fixed.
