by Matthias Trute (http://freshmeat.net/users/mtrute/)
Mon, Mar 5th 2007 01:37
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Hardware
About: amforth is a distribution of Forth running on the AVR ATmega
microcontroller. Once put into flash, it needs only a serial connection to
the host computer. New words are compiled directly into flash, thus
extending the dictionary immediately. It is ans94 Forth oriented with some
minor exclusions and a few words from the extension word sets. It is
written in assembly language and Forth itself. The main development uses
ATmega8 and ATmega32 controllers; other ATmega controllers should work
with small adjustments.
Changes: This release enhances the robustness of the system and adds a few
new forth words. Division now works for signed numbers. A new optional
dictionary is added.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering
About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: Problems with loading LaTeX packages and slide presentations were
fixed. Non-static variables in every loop iteration are allocated anew.
Formatting under locales with nonperiod decimal separators was fixed,
along with logarithmic tick labels near the machine epsilon. New path
markers were added. Reading XDR binary data into arrays works again;
native binary formats are also supported. Memory leaks were fixed. An
inline limit is now imposed on old compilers to speed up compilation. An
introductory slide presentation was added and a user-written tutorial is
now cited in the manual.

About: The ATLAS (Automatically Tuned Linear Algebra Software) project is
an ongoing research effort focusing on applying empirical techniques in
order to provide portable performance. It provides C and Fortran77
interfaces to a portably efficient BLAS implementation, as well as a few
routines from LAPACK.
Changes: Optimizations were added for some corner cases. The x87 Athlon-64
kernel was translated to 32-bit assembly. SYRK code was optimized.
Architecture defaults were added for Core2Duo32SSE3. Bugfixes were made
for 32-bit dynamic libraries. MaxMalloc was enlarged.

[007] - Auto Project Planner 0.9
by don.didi (http://freshmeat.net/users/dondidi/)
Mon, Mar 5th 2007 01:33
Office/Business
Office/Business :: CRM
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Auto Project Planner automatically calculates a proper project plan
based on your effort estimations and the due dates you have in mind. A list
of tasks and a list of employees can be defined. Tasks can be assigned to
one or more employees. It is also possible to define a maximum percentage
value an employee can/should work on a task. Public holidays, leaves,
weekly working hours, and more parameters can be specified and are
considered in the calculation. According to this input, the software
computes time plans by minimizing the MSE (mean squared error) between
expected and computed end dates.
Changes: This version provides an improved and simplified user interface.
Additionally, task colors for HTML export and GanttProject export can be
customized now.

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting many built-in validation types on server and client
sides. It prevents security attacks by discarding spoofed values, has
multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields displayed as fully
accessible or in read-only mode, and has field value filtering and
reformatting. It can be extended with custom control plug-ins. AJAX based
form submission, upload monitor progress bar, auto-complete text input,
automatic layout renderer, calendar date, CAPTCHA, Google Maps world
location selection, linked select, and animation effects plug-ins are

Mon, Mar 5th 2007 00:51
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: KJam is a very fast build tool. It is a make replacement, and uses
a syntax similar to Jam, but is much more powerful than the original. It
has built-in dependency scanning, per-target viewpathing, C-like control
flow, and a built-in sh-like shell. It is optimized for multi-processor
machines. It can accelerate software builds by launching build actions on
a distributed peer to peer network of build servers. It is designed to
support large projects with thousands of targets, or projects requiring
building on many target architectures.
Changes: KJam has been ported to Mac OS X. This version also includes two
major new feaures. The first is the new "thread" action modifier keyword,
which limits the number of threads that KJam will spawn for actions of a
given type. The second is the -C command line option, which causes KJam to
use case insensitive file system scanning.

System :: Logging
About: Logback is intended as a successor to the popular log4j project,
and was designed by log4j's founder, Ceki Gulcu. The basic architecture is
sufficiently generic so as to apply under different circumstances. It is
divided into three modules. The Core module lays the groundwork for the
other two modules, whereas the Classic module can be assimilated to an
improved version of log4j. It natively implements the SLF4J API so that
you can readily switch back and forth between logback and other logging
systems, such as log4j or JDK14 Logging. The Access module integrates with
Servlet containers to provide HTTP access log functionality. You can easily
build your own modules on top of the Core module.
Changes: Logback-classic now depends on SLF4J version 1.3.0 instead of
1.2. Numerous improvements to the documentation. Bug #46 has been fixed.
The TimeUtilTest should now run fine under any time zone. Bug #45 has been
fixed. There should be no ClassCastException thrown anymore when passing an

[059] - PeaZip 1.4
by giorgiotani (http://freshmeat.net/users/giorgiotani/)
Mon, Mar 5th 2007 11:06
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: PeaZip is an archiver tool that supports its native Pea archive
format (featuring compression, split volumes, and flexible authenticated
encryption and integrity check schemes) and other mainstream formats, with
special focus on handling open formats. It can create/browse/extract 7Z,
7-Zip sfx, Bzip2, Gzip, PAQ, PEA, QUAD, split, TAR, and ZIP. It can
browse/extract ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, DEB, ISO, JAR, LHA, LZH, NSIS
installers, OOo files, RAR, RPM, and Z.
Changes: This update introduces a better finished and better integrated
look and feel. It's now possible to archive data in tar format before
sending it to any other archive or compressor type. A Strip and UPX
frontend has been added to reduce executable size (this feature is mainly
developer-oriented). Full support for the QUAD compression format has been
introduced. The program was successfully tested on Windows Vista. All Linux
packages now contain .desktop files and instructions to integrate the
application in FreeDesktop compliant environments, like Gnome and KDE.

[060] - PHP Data Grid Class 1.0 BETA 2
by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
Mon, Mar 5th 2007 01:27
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP Data Grid Class can be used to display MySQL query results in
HTML tables. It executes a given SQL SELECT query and generates an HTML
table defined by a template to display the query results. The results
table also shows links to navigate between query result pages. The number
of result rows to display per page is configurable. The results can be
sorted by columns that the user may choose by clicking on column links.
The list of sortable columns may be restricted.
Changes: The "useSEO" property was added. If you set this property to
TRUE, the script will append a parameter to the URL (configured by using
the newly added "URLa" property) when navigating through pages, making the
data grid search-engine friendly. The posibility to order results by
multiple columns was added. The datagrid would crash if single quotes were
used anywhere. You can now specify columns in the form of
tablename.columnname. HTML attributes and callback functions can now be
set to multiple columns at once.

[061] - PHP Date Picker Class 1.0.5
by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
Mon, Mar 5th 2007 01:30
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP Date Picker Class will automatically generate the required HTML
and JavaScript code that will make a pop-up window appear to let the user
choose a date from a calendar. The selected date will be passed to a
user-specified control from the calling page. Every aspect is customizable
by modifying a template and a related CSS file. The format in which the
date is returned, the default date and time period, and the first day of
the week can be selected.
Changes: The selected date and time were not preserved if the month or
year were changed. Using any date format other than the default would
cause all dates to be disabled everywhere. A potential problem with
selectableYearsRange and selectableTimesRange was fixed. The cause of the
problem was the fact that PHP's date() function returns a string and
therefore date("Y") would return the current date as a string rather than
an integer, which made the calendar unusable.

[064] - Polyglot 2.2
by Andrew Myers (http://freshmeat.net/users/AndrewCMyers/)
Mon, Mar 5th 2007 11:07
About: Polyglot is a highly extensible compiler front end for the Java
programming language. Using Polyglot, language extensions can be
implemented without duplicating code from the framework itself. Polyglot
has been used to implement domain-specific languages, to explore language
design ideas, to simplify Java for pedagogical purposes, and for various
code transformations such as optimization and fault injection. Polyglot
has been used for both major and minor language extensions.
Changes: CodeNode and CodeBlock were added as a super-interfaces of
CodeDecl that are not ClassMembers. DataFlow was changed to use CodeNode.
MemberInstance was removed as a super-interface of CodeInstance and
ProcedureInstance. The FunctionInstance interface was added: procedures
with return types that are not methods. Miscellaneous bugs were fixed.

Mon, Mar 5th 2007 11:44
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: The support for float was changed to use IEEE 754 NaN and
Infinity instead of exceptions. The exception checking program chkexc.sd7
was improved and the chkflt.sd7 program was added. All exponentiation
operators were improved to evaluate 0 ** 0 to 1. The associativity of the
** operator was changed to work right to left. A declaration for an = and
<> operator was added for interface types. Basic support for exceptions in
compiled programs was added. Parts of the manual describing float
operations and exponentiation were improved. The compiler was improved for
several primitive actions.

[071] - Sojo 0.4.0
by Mario Linke (http://freshmeat.net/users/linkemario/)
Mon, Mar 5th 2007 00:37
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: SOJO is a Java framework that converts JavaBeans (complex
Java-Object graphs) to a simplified representation, so that handling and
controlling access to JavaBeans properties is easy and uniform. The
framework is meant to compliment POJOs in cases where object orientation
is not supported or is not the best decision. This is a powerful way to
transform an Object to a data interchange format such as JSON or XML.
Changes: CSV data interchange is now possible.
ThrowableConverterInterceptor is an interceptor that transforms an
Exception to a ThrowableWrapper. The benefit of this conversion is that it
can wrap a Throwable instance and can save the stack trace and the
exception message without knowledge of the original exception's class. The
desired date format can be set for serialized data. The CompareTo method
was implemented for all objects (including JavaBeans), and it calculates
the hashCode over all values. CompareTo is the complement to the
ObjectUtil.equals method.

by digitaltom (http://freshmeat.net/users/digitaltom/)
Mon, Mar 5th 2007 11:36
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
About: SWAMP is a workflow processing platform in which the workflow is
designed in an XML based language in one file which is read by the SWAMP
server. It avoids hardcoding business logic, and workflows can be built
from different workflow "patterns" like simple actions, decisions,
selections, loops, and custom code. The SWAMP server automatically creates
a Web GUI from the workflow definition file that guides users through the
business logic process based on their roles. Notification is sent if
required. Overview pages over all running workflows and much more are
available.
Changes: Minor feature enhancements and bugfixes were made. A new

[080] - Tournament Pool and Bracket Tracker 0.5.0
by Avery Regier (http://freshmeat.net/users/AveryRegier/)
Mon, Mar 5th 2007 23:06
Games/Entertainment
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Tournament Pool and Bracket Tracker contains everything you need to
run a tournament pool. It supports small groups or organizations who wish
to provide an NCAA basketball tournament pool without a lot of
administrative work in calculating up-to-date results and possibilities.
Though it was built with the NCAA tournament in mind, it should be able to
handle most other sport tournament pools. Once a tournament is underway,
users can keep track of their progress as the administrator for a
tournament updates the results of games. Pool adminstrators can choose
from many different scoring systems.
Changes: This release adds many new options for the tournament pool
administrator. You can do tie breakers, not show the player's brackets to
each other until the tournament starts, limit the number of brackets per
player, and run a pool starting later in a tournament, such as starting at
the Sweet 16. There is also a new interface for setting the start date and
time of the tournament, sorting enhancements, the ability to edit pool
settings, ranking the brackets of a running pool, and players may reset
their passwords.
