[004] - Bygfoot Football Manager. 2.1.1 (Development)
  by mrsmola (http://freshmeat.net/users/mrsmola/)
  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 23:15

Games/Entertainment :: Simulation

About: Bygfoot is a small and simple graphical football (a.k.a. soccer)
manager game featuring many international leagues and cups. You manage a
team from one such league: you form the team, buy and sell players, get
promoted or relegated, and of course try to be successful.

Changes: This release has some new features and contains new country
definitions. New features are the training camp, a "luck" feature to make
long-lasting success even harder, and some changes in the GUI to make
bygfoot more usable for blind users. A couple of new tags were added in
the XML definition system related to weeks with two match days of the same
competition. New country definitions were added for the USA, Germany,
Argentina, Mexico, Japan, and Turkey.

  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 22:42

About: The CMS - Bandits is a set of PHP scripts that implement an online
HTML editor, calendar, search engine, RSS reader and editor, image
gallery, comment system, and Web crawler (which can handle more than 2
million Web pages and ouput them to the Web in txt and cached versions
with images.)

Changes: Permissions are checked in del.php. and in cms.php. A bug was
fixed in the logout script. CAPTCHA images now also work on Debian
systems. Some new features were added.

[007] - commonc++ 0.3
  by Mark Lindner (http://freshmeat.net/users/mesmerism/)
  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 22:51

Software Development :: Libraries

About: commonc++ is a C++ class library for developing cross-platform
systems software for POSIX and Windows systems. It provides an intuitive,
object-oriented abstraction and portability layer around common operating
system facilities like threads, concurrency mechanisms, sockets,
networking, shared memory and other IPC mechanisms, regular expressions,
files, streams, logging, process execution, scheduling, and more. It also
includes a collection of common abstractions like strings, buffers, and
object pools.

Changes: This release includes logging and object pool class refactoring,
some Mac OS X specific fixes, rudimentary support for compiling with
VS2003.NET, a new reusable unit test harness, Java-style synchronized()
blocks, exception-safety improvements, and a few assorted bugfixes and
minor API enhancements.

[008] - Crossfire+ 2.0
  by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 08:15

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: Crossfire+ is a friendly fork of the crossfire multi-user RPG game.
Unlike the original project, it focuses mainly on stability and
playability, while also adding more maps and better scriptability and
graphics.

Changes: Large parts of the server have been rewritten. Map loading and
saving and most I/O is done asynchronously, eliminating I/O-based lag. The
server now regularly writes maps and players, so data loss on crash is
minimized. Over 40 Perl extensions are available, such as a IRC gateway,
transports, playershop, and minesweeper. The map system is now completely
pluggable (for example, the world map is generated on the fly from an
overlay). The file formats have been cleaned up and improved and use a
faster parser now. A persistent database is available for data storage.

  by Dominique Michel (http://freshmeat.net/users/DominiqueMichel/)
  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 23:25

Desktop Environment :: Theme
Desktop Environment :: Window Managers :: FVWM :: Themes

About: CrystalAudio is a FVWM-Crystal configuration tuned for use on an
audio workstation. It has many new applications for the menu, including
many sound-related applications and improved sound controls. It launches
qjackctl at startup. The final goal of the project is to make the
FVWM-Crystal menu compatible with the freedesktop specification and to
provide some tools to generate the menu entries and icons from desktop and
icon files provided by the applications in the system.

Changes: The principal new features are a freedesktop friendly menu, a
tool to convert a FVWM-Crystal 3.0.4 system menu, and another tool to
generate FVWM-Crystal menu entries and icons from the desktop files and
icons provided by applications. A fork of FVWM-Crystal is also provided on
the Web site. It is meant for use by package managers. The menu entry
generation works with the new type of desktop files. Support for the old
type of desktop file has not yet been added.

[011] - DBIx::Perlish 0.20
  by Grrrr (http://freshmeat.net/users/Grrrr/)
  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 05:21

About: The DBIx::Perlish module provides the ability to work with
databases supported by the DBI module using Perl's own syntax for the four
most common operations: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. By using
DBIx::Perlish, you can write most of your database queries using a
domain-specific language with Perl syntax. However, the module is not
intended to replace all use of SQL in your program. The DBIx::Perlish
module quite intentionally neither implements nor cares about database
administration tasks like schema design and management.

Changes: Support for variable column names was added. The module is now
compatible with Error.pm.

[012] - DHCPsql 0.2-pre6
  by Stefan de Konink (http://freshmeat.net/users/skinkie/)
  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 23:03

Database
System :: Networking

About: This projects implements the RFC2132 and at least RFC3046 as a
dynamic configurable SQL-based DHCP server, based on the udhcpd code,
extended to mask-and-select by client DHCP packets.

Changes: This version of DHCPsql supports OPTION_LIST with OPTION_IP. This
allows administrators to add multiple IP addresses to their DHCP options.
This feature was lacking in the previous releases where only one IP
address was allowed, and this limited the use of the nameserver field.

  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 06:18

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: DigiKam is an advanced digital photo management application that
makes importing and organizing digital photos a trivial task. Photos can
be organized in albums, which can be sorted chronologically, by directory
layout, or by custom collections, and they can be tagged, commented, and
rated. DigiKam makes use of a fast and robust database to store
meta-information, which makes adding and editing comments and tags very
reliable. Metadata can also be stored inside pictures using Exif and IPTC.
An embedded image editor and a standalone application named showfoto have
simple but powerful features for editing your pictures with filters and
correction tools.

Changes: This release adds native support of JPEG2000, metadata
synchronization, a native slideshow tool with RAW support, faster picture
preview, an improvement in the image editor tools, and usability
improvements.

[022] - GREYCstoration 2.5
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 23:03

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors

About: GREYCstoration is an image regularization algorithm that processes
an image by locally removing small variations of pixel intensities while
preserving significant global image features, such as sharp edges and
corners. The most direct application is denoising. By extension, it can
also be used to inpaint or resize images. It is based on methods using
nonlinear multi-valued diffusion PDEs (Partial Differential Equations)
for image regularization. This kind of method generally outperforms
basic image filtering techniques (such as convolution, median filtering,
etc.) classically encountered in painting programs. Other image
denoising plugins are available, but are not free, and the corresponding
algorithms are kept secret.

Changes: Processing modes for 16-bit/components and 32-bit float-valued
images were added. The code was cleaned up and the footprint was reduced.

  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 14:35

About: JSmooth is an EXE wrapper that builds Windows executables that
intelligently launch Java applications, either from an embedded jar or
from a jar located on the filesystem. It detects any JRE available on the
computer, and knows how to set it up to run the application. The JSmooth
executable generator is fully implemented in Java, and can therefore
integrate a build chain on any system able to run a JVM.

Changes: This release mainly adds two new wrappers that can automatically
download and install a JVM if none is found on the computer. The JSmooth
generator itself now comes wrapped with it.

[027] - LambdaRogue Snapshot #16 (Development Snapshots)
  by Mario Donick (http://freshmeat.net/users/mariodonick/)
  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 22:44

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: LambdaRogue is a rogue-like role playing game set in the future of
a somehow "parallel world" to our own. People had to go underground to
survive a war between human society and the once peaceful Drakh'Nar,
another species on the planet. People founded the NeoTerr nation and tried
to build up a prosperous civilization. This worked, until suddenly strange
creatures came down the Great River Styx. The river has now become a
source of fear and terror. The player has to follow the river through
NeoTerr and discover the reason. The atmosphere is rather strange,
influcenced by phantasy and cyberpunk.

Changes: The main change is that HP does not auto-regenerate any longer.
Other features include new trader types, new potions, and bugfixes.

[030] - MeTA1 1.0.PreAlpha14.0
  by Claus Assmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/casmx/)
  Tue, Mar 6th 2007 23:07

About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to
avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central
control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is
secure and efficient.

Changes: An upcoming SMTP extension called PRDR (Per Recipient Data Reply)
is supported, which allows reply codes for each RCPT after the end of a
message (similar to LMTP). This is allows per recipient filtering based on
the message content.

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Modem.pl is a small script that scrapes the Web interface of a
Motorola SURFboard cable modem for various status conditions like signal
strength and signal to noise ratio. The results are sent to STDOUT where
they can be easily piped into a log file. The modem values are also
checked for reasonable operating ranges. If the modem values are outside
of reasonable operating ranges, results are also sent to STDERR. When run
from a cron job, modem.pl can be used to monitor the condition of the
cable service and notify someone before conditions cause service
interruptions.

Changes: Confirmed support for model SB4200. modem_graph.pl has been fixed
to suppress "attempt to put segment in horiz list twice" warnings from
librsvg.

About: Socat is a relay for bidirectional data transfer between two
independent data channels. Each of these data channels may be a file,
pipe, device (terminal or modem, etc.), socket (Unix, IP4, IP6 - raw, UDP,
TCP), a client for SOCKS4, proxy CONNECT, or SSL, etc. It provides forking,
logging, and dumping, different modes for interprocess communication, and
many more options. It can be used, for example, as a TCP relay (one-shot
or daemon), as a daemon-based socksifier, as a shell interface to Unix
sockets, as an IP6 relay, for redirecting TCP-oriented programs to a

and images can be batch processed using the commandline interface. UFRaw
reads most existing raw formats using Dave Coffin's raw conversion utility
DCRaw, and it supports basic color management using Little CMS, allowing
the user to apply color profiles. For Nikon users, UFRaw has the advantage
that it can read the camera's tone curves. Even if you don't own a Nikon,
you can still apply a Nikon curve to your images.

Changes: The highlight of this release is the new handling of image

About: VisualRoute combines the tools traceroute, ping, reverse DNS, and
whois into a single graphical interface that analyzes Internet
connections, reporting quick and essential data points for finding
connectivity problems. An IP location database identifies the geographical
location of IP addresses and Web servers, showing the path of an Internet
connection on a global map. The domain registration and network provider
contact information are reported for each hop of a network route for quick
problem reporting. Several new advanced edition options include reverse
tracing to initiate a connection test from a remote desktop or data
center, port testing, Internet application testing, and TCP traceroutes.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: HTML Family Tree Generator is a CGI Perl script together with some
Perl modules that will create views of a family tree from a supplied data
file. The data file is a simple text file listing the family members,
parents, and other details. It is possible to show a tree of ancestors and
descendants for any person, showing any number of generations. Other
facilities are provided for showing email directories, birthdays reminder,
facehall and more. It has a simple configuration, makes heavy use of CGI
(and other CPAN modules), generates valid XHTML, and has support for
Unicode and multiple languages.

Changes: This release handles additional information (like place of birth,
nickname, jobs, etc.) about the people. Excel spreadsheet has been added as
an input format. Polish language support has been added. TIFF support has
been added. There are some configuration changes; see
PerlSettingsImporter.pm. Some code refactoring has been done.

About: Yet Another Autoresponder (yaa) is an email (vacation)
autoresponder that is able to fetch autoresponse data from various
sources, using separate plugins for each source type. Currently developed
plugins are SQL, LDAP, DB_File, BerkeleyDB, STATIC, and PCRE. It supports
daemon mode operation (operates as an SMTP/LMTP server), so users can set
up a single autoresponder server that is able to serve requests from many
email servers. It doesn't reply to mailing list posts, and has built-in
mechanisms to prevent autoresponder deadlocks.

Changes: A subject encoding issue discussed on
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_yaa was fixed.
