Software Development :: Libraries
About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that helps you develop and deploy high-performance
networked applications faster and with less code to write and maintain.
ACE is especially useful for systems that use network and/or inter-process
communications and that take advantage of multithreading. While the ACE
source code is free, that's not the only way you save money with ACE.
ACE's wrappers and higher-level patterns help you develop your software
quickly and portably, helping you to complete your projects on time and
within budget.
Changes: This release fixes bugs related to exporting longlong and
ulonglong data types, problems with SunCC 5.3, single-threaded mode with
GCC on Solaris, and the Select and Thread Pool reactor on Windows.

Desktop Environment
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Playing
Office/Business
About: AntiRight provides gtkshell, an interface for scripting a GUI.
Around this interface, applications can be defined at the commandline.
This allows rapid application development, leaving the developer to focus
on core application logic. Also included are ACE, a sample desktop
implementation, and gshterm, a vte-based terminal emulator with
transparency, anti-aliased fonts, and xterm-compatible command
specification.
Changes: This release marks the first stable version of GTK-based
antiright. It adds support for menu buttons and a new format for icon
button specification, usable within the menu specification. It
incorporates a much-needed documentation overhaul, elimination of gcc
warnings, and improved error handling.

[003] - Asymptote 1.23
by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering
About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: Microsoft Windows autoconfiguration has been implemented by
querying the registry; Asymptote and the applications it depends on may
now be installed in any location. The shipout command is now allowed to
write to other directories if and only if -global is true. An autoimport
configuration setting has been added. Importing the Gnu Scientific Library
now works on all platforms. A texpreamble environment to contain the LaTeX
preamble for both LaTeX and Asymptote has been added. A conflict with the
French babel packages has been fixed. Background picture sizing in the
slide presentation package has been fixed.

Security
About: CacheGuard OS is a Linux based operating system dedicated to Web
traffic control and optimization. It transforms an x86 based machine to a
powerful, affordable Web gateway appliance. It allows you to control all
Web traffic that passes through a CacheGuard appliance. It proxies HTTP,
HTTPS, and FTP. It supports HTTP transparent implementation, HTTP
compression methods, caching technologies, and user-defined black and
white lists. It features a fireWall with NAT and PAT, bandwidth management
(QoS), Web-based and SSH-based administration interfaces, and high
availability.
Changes: When loading and saving guard categories, the category type may
be optionally specified. Security was fixed so that, in VLAN mode, the
embedded Firewall allows or denies only traffic to or from the "web" VLAN.
The syntax of the commands "access" and "fw" has been changed. Now the
access type "other" in the command "access" is replaced by the command
"fw" followed by the keyword "out". In the command "fw", the source IP
address and optionally the network mask are specified. Other minor bugs
were corrected.

Sat, Mar 10th 2007 11:13
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Scanners
Office/Business
About: gscan2pdf is a GUI to ease the process of producing PDFs from
scanned documents. You scan in one or several pages and create a PDF of
selected pages. At maturity, the GUI will have similar features to that of
the Windows Imaging program, but with the express objective of writing a

[018] - libRUIN 0.1.4
by Julian Graham (http://freshmeat.net/users/joolean/)
Sat, Mar 10th 2007 03:28
Software Development :: User Interfaces
About: libRUIN (Renderer for User Interfaces in Ncurses) is a rendering
library for various XML-based user interface markup languages (such as
Mozilla XUL), using the Ncurses terminal control library as a rendering
target. GNU Guile and the SDOM Scheme module are used as the "glue" that
manages user input and event handling. An application programmer passes an
XML document (including, potentially, a set of CSS stylesheets) and an
Ncurses WINDOW structure, and libRUIN paints the WINDOW according to the
markup and CSS. The programmer may subsequently pass Ncurses-style input
strings to that WINDOW via libRUIN, and libRUIN will handle the resulting
event flows.
Changes: This release adds an implementation of the automatic table layout
algorithm. The latest versions of SCSS and SDOM have been integrated,
allowing automatic document type detection and several rendering
correctness fixes. The API has changed to reflect the mitigated need for
XML dialect specification. Issues related to rendering corruption and
border widths have been resolved.

[020] - MARGO 0.7a
by Maxime Morge (http://freshmeat.net/users/maximemorge/)
Sat, Mar 10th 2007 11:02
About: MARGO implements an Argumentation Framework for practical
reasoning. A logic language is used as a concrete data structure for
holding the statements like knowledge, goals, and actions. Different
qualitative or quantitative priorities are attached to these items,
corresponding to the probability of the knowledge, the preferences between
goals, and the expected utilities of alternative actions. MARGO evaluates
the possible actions, suggests some solutions, and provides an interactive
and intelligible explanation of the choice made.
Changes: In order to evaluate the previous statements, all relevant pieces
of information should be taken into account, such as the likelihood of
beliefs, the preferences between goals, or the expected utilities of the
alternatives. In the previous version, these priorities were qualitatives,
i.e order relations classifying the elements from the "best" to the
"worst". However, such qualitative information is not enough in many
practical applications. Alternatively, this version allows quantitative
priorities which are expressed by a valuation function over rules, called
confidence.
