System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
Terminals :: Telnet
About: Enhanced Reverse Pimpage is an enhanced version of the original
rpimp by Matt Miller. Reverse Pimpage was designed to allow you to access
a computer that is behind a firewall from outside that firewall itself.
The way it accomplishes this is by having the client (the computer behind
the firewall) send a SYN request to a certain port at certain intervals.
The computer that will access the client must run the server program, and
when the time interval is up it will connect. Once it's connected, the
client telnets to itself and routes data back and forth between the two.

Sun, Mar 11th 2007 00:08
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Video
Utilities
About: Ezstream is a command line source client for the Icecast media
streaming server. It can stream Ogg Vorbis and MP3 audio, as well as Ogg
Theora video, either "as-is" without reencoding (which uses only very
little CPU time) or it can use external decoders and encoders to convert
virtually any media format into one of the supported streaming formats.
Ezstream supports metadata, streaming from standard input, playlists, and
external playlist scripts or programs, and more.
Changes: Many new features related to metadata were added. ezstream can
now use TagLib to read more information from media files. An external
program or script can be used to set a stream's metadata information,
which can be customized with a format string. Metadata updates from an
external program can be triggered mid-stream with the SIGUSR2 signal. A
couple of memory management fixes also went into this release.

[031] - Hegons 0.2
by S0lo (http://freshmeat.net/users/S0lo/)
Sun, Mar 11th 2007 03:56
Scientific/Engineering
About: HEGONS is a HEterogeneous Grooming Optical Network Simulator that
supports mixed routing and wavelength assignment algorithms and optional
wavelength conversions capability on each node. The goal of Hegons is the
evaluation of different dynamic routing and wavelength assignment (RWA)
algorithms in WDM optical networks in terms of several measures such as:
call blocking probability, fairness (variance in blocking probability),
call setup time, etc.
Changes: The -ll and -ml options were added for "Least Loaded Routing
(LLR)" and "Most Loaded Routing (MLR)". This works for both grooming and
non-grooming. For the grooming case, the simulator assumes the path with
the least (or most) number of time slots used to be the least (or most)
loaded path. However, those two methods are still not well defined for the
grooming case in the literature.

Sun, Mar 11th 2007 16:27
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Version Control :: SCCS
About: The Heirloom Development Tools provide yacc, lex, m4, make, and
SCCS as portable derivatives of the utilities released by Sun as part of
OpenSolaris. The OpenSolaris utilities were in turn derived from the
original Unix versions, and are assumed be conforming implementations of
the POSIX standard.
Changes: Support for SVR4.2-style parallel builds has been added to
"make"; this includes the "-B" and "-P" options as well as the ".MUTEX"
special target. The "-w" option to suppress warnings has been added to
"make". "make" now issues message numbers for use with the "help" command.
"make" now accepts comments following "ifeq" and other conditionals.
Recursive evaluation of directories with "sccs" for the "info", "tell",
and "clean" sub-commands previously omitted some files and has been fixed.

[033] - Hilbert II 0.03.03
by m31 (http://freshmeat.net/users/m31/)
Sun, Mar 11th 2007 18:18
Documentation
Education
Internet
About: The Goal of Hilbert II, which is in the tradition of Hilbert's
program, is the creation of a system that enables a working mathematician
to put theorems and proofs (in the formal language of predicate calculus)
into it. These proofs are automatically verified by a proof checker.
Because this system is not centrally administered and enables references
to any location on the Internet, a world wide mathematical knowledge base
could be built. Any proof of a theorem in this "mathematical web" could be
drilled down to the very elementary rules and axioms. To make it more than
a huge number of logical correct formulas, it also contains information in
"common mathematical language". Think of an incredible number of
mathematical textbooks with hyperlinks, and each of its proofs could be
verified by *Hilbert II*. For each theorem, the dependency of other
propositions, definitions, and axioms could be easily derived.
Changes: The definition "all x phi(x): psi(y)" is defined by "all x
(phi(x) implies psi(y))" now matches the current implementation because
the restriction formula "phi(x)" can, but must not, contain the subject
variable "x". No output files are generated when an error occurs (old
behaviour: generate a file with length 0). Various minimal QEDEQ module
files have been added to show different errors. In the XSD, the
INTRODUCTION element in CHAPTER is now optional. The error message for
"30590: this predicate constant is unknown (at least for this argument
number)" is followed by the unknown name.

[043] - MirBSD Korn Shell R29b
by mirabile (http://freshmeat.net/users/mirabile/)
Sun, Mar 11th 2007 00:00
System :: Shells
About: The MirBSD Korn Shell (mksh) is an actively developed successor of
pdksh (the Public Domain Korn Shell), aimed at producing a shell good for
interactive use, but with primary focus on scripting. It is intended to be
portable to most *nix-like operating systems as long as they're not too
obscure. mksh incorporates improvements from OpenBSD and Debian, as well
as bugfixes and enhancements developed for the MirOS and FreeWRT projects.
The emacs command line editing mode is UTF-8 capable. The shell supports
large files, as well as all pdksh and some csh, AT&T ksh, and GNU bash
features, is compatible with the Bourne shell (within limits, but you can
turn off brace expansion), has no limit on array sizes, and incorporates
some other useful builtins and features. While being already fast and
small (without losing functionality), flags to make it even smaller can be
given at compile time. An interactive shell reads "~/.mkshrc" on startup.
Changes: Some spin-loop bugs related to invalid multibyte input were
fixed. The -fstack-protector-all (ProPolice SSP) argument was added to
CFLAGS if it is supported by the compiler. A gcc bug is worked around if
an affected version is detected. Minor code and man page cleanup was done.
Fixes were made for the manual page.

[063] - The Sleep Scripting Project 2.1-b12
by Raphael Mudge (http://freshmeat.net/users/rsmudge/)
Sun, Mar 11th 2007 18:25
Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Sleep is an embeddable scripting solution for Java applications. It
is heavily inspired by Perl with bits of Objective-C thrown in. Features
include function closures as first-class types, a unified I/O interface
for sockets/processes/files, and the ability to instantiate/query Java
objects. The Sleep Java API allows the language to be extended with new
constructs, operators, functions, and variable containers.
Changes: This release adds an &include function to allow the inclusion of
external script files. String indexing functions now normalize negative
values against the string length. &allocate has been added for creating a
memory buffer accessible with Sleep's I/O library. This release also
includes several bugfixes.

Software Development
Software Development :: Internationalization
Text Processing :: General
About: uni2ascii and ascii2uni convert between UTF-8 Unicode and 29 7-bit
ASCII equivalents including: hexadecimal and decimal HTML and SGML numeric
character references, \u-escapes, standard hexadecimal, raw hexadecimal,
and RFC2396 URI format. Such ASCII equivalents are useful for entering
Unicode in program source or in programs that are not 8-bit safe, and for
testing and debugging. Several options allow Unicode to be converted to
approximately equivalent ASCII, e.g. by stripping diacritics. An optional
GUI is provided.
Changes: This release adds a new option that allows custom mappings of
Unicode characters to ASCII characters to be defined from the command
line.
