[002] - BasKet Note Pads 1.0.1
by Sebien (http://freshmeat.net/users/Sebien/)
Sun, Mar 18th 2007 12:38
About: BasKet Note Pads is an application that provides several baskets
into which the user can drop all sorts of notes: rich text, links, images,
sounds, files, colors, application launchers, and more. Objects in the
baskets can be edited, copied, and rearranged. This application can be
used to quickly store Web objects (such as links, text, or images) or
notes, and it can also help clean up a clutered desktop. It is also useful
for collecting information for a report. The data in baskets can be shared
with co-workers by exporting them to HTML.
Changes: This is a maintenance release, fixing the most hated bug that
made grouping not work, fixing crashes and freezes on exit, and enhancing
and adding translations.

Internet :: Log Analysis
About: BetterAWstats is an Web server log analysis tool that provides
better statistics from the data provided by AWstats. It is not a
replacement for AWstats. The most significant features are rolling months
and days, and support for new types of charts (pie, max/min, etc.).
Changes: This release adds OS table, browser, screen sizes, referrers, and
search engine referrers tables. It re-introduces CSS classes for chart
legends, allows Monday as the first day of the week, fixes problems with
data where the extras plugin was not used, fixes a function naming
conflict with PHP 5.x, uses "others" only when greater than 0, introduces
a sorting option for screen sizes, introduces expand/collapse buttons for
each section, adds a PHP4-compatible array_slice function, and has more
minor fixes.

[006] - C-Pluff 0.1.1
by Johannes Lehtinen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jlehtine/)
Sun, Mar 18th 2007 15:58
Software Development :: Libraries
About: C-Pluff is a plug-in framework for C programs. It has been strongly
inspired by the Java plug-in framework in Eclipse. C-Pluff focuses on
providing core services for plug-in interaction and plug-in management. It
aims to be platform neutral and supports dynamic changes to plug-in
configuration without stopping the whole application or framework. It does
not yet provide special facilities for distribution such as signed plug-in
packages or remote plug-in repositories, but it is possible to build such
features on top of the current framework.
Changes: This version includes more complete documentation and a simple
example of an extensible application based on C-Pluff. The example source
code is a good starting point for learning how to develop C-Pluff based
applications. This release also includes some bugfixes.

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
Text Processing :: Filters
About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.
Changes: This is an unofficial release, but significant. Several
significant bugfixes have been made. Bill Yerazunis' Orthogonal Sparse
Bigram (OSB) tokenizer algorithm has been added. The code has been
significantly optimized to run much faster and with fewer resources.

Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Disassemblers
About: EDB (Evan's Debugger) is a QT4 based binary mode debugger with the
goal of having usability on par with OllyDbg. It uses a plugin
architecture, so adding new features can be done with ease. The current
release is for Linux, but future releases will target more platforms.
Changes: The working directory and arguments may now be obtained from
attached processes, which makes restarting work much better (which is now
enabled). The quit role property was removed from exit menu as this
prevented compilation with Qt versions earlier than 4.2.0.

Documentation
Software Development :: Documentation
System
About: The Heirloom Documentation Tools provide troff, nroff, and related
utilities to format manual pages and other documents for output on
terminals and printers. They are portable and enhanced versions of the
respective OpenSolaris utilities, which descend from ditroff and the
historical Unix troff. troff provides advanced typographical features such
as kerning, tracking, and hanging characters. It can access PostScript Type
1, OpenType, and TrueType fonts directly. Internationalized hyphenation,
international paper sizes, and UTF-8 input are supported.
Changes: The concept of an "inline environment" has been introduced. It
allows you to change fonts, text sizes, etc. in a stack-wise fashion, as
with HTML "<i>...</i>", for which the corresponding syntax is
"\@{\fI...\@}". In numeric expressions, modulo zero is now ignored and no
longer causes a core dump. Several issues with paragraph-at-once line
breaking have been fixed, concerning indents and end-of-document handling.
Some minor problems with TrueType fonts, OpenType fonts, and the "-man"
macros have been fixed.

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Multimedia
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: SnapMatcher is an application intended for photographers, artists,
or image packrats who have very large collections of digital images, some
of which may be duplicates or near duplicates. By identifying images
across multiple formats with the ability to filter out minor edits such as
changes to contrast, brightness, color balance, resizing, or even the
addition of text or borders, SnapMatcher can be a valuable tool in
organizing/culling unwieldy collections.
Changes: This release adds the ability to quickly match a small set of
images against any image database. It re-fixes the bug preventing the
directory scan process in database creation from working on Windows (the
fix in version 0.3 was flawed). It adds PCX, PPM, XPM, and XBM to the
previous default image extensions (JPG, JPEG, JPE, PNG, GIF, TIF, TIFF,
and BMP) used when creating an image database. It improves reliability for
the database and matches file updates by first writing updates to a temp
file, so the original files are unmodified in the case of program
interruption. It improves the efficiency of database updates.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.
Changes: The pattern matching and tree building functions have been
rewritten to leverage the hintDB object. Said object was rewritten again
to answer the real needs, instead of the perceived ones. The tag database
and hint module have been cleaned up somewhat. The Windows port should now

[052] - StreamCruncher 1.09 Beta
by Ashwin Jayaprakash (http://freshmeat.net/users/AshwinJ/)
Sun, Mar 18th 2007 12:07
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Monitoring
About: StreamCruncher is an Event Processor. It supports a language based
on SQL which allows you to define "Event Processing" constructs like
Sliding Windows, Time Based Windows, Partitions, and Aggregates. Such
constructs allow for the specification of boundaries (some are time
sensitive) on a Stream of Events that SQL does not provide. Queries can be
written using this language, which in turn can be used to monitor streams
of incoming events. It also provides a feature similar to materialized
views. Joins and sub-queries are also supported to allow event
co-relation. A database is used underneath to do the heavy lifting.
Changes: multi-stream correlation, a.k.a. pattern matching, is possible.
This feature enables the monitoring of and correlation across multiple
streams of events using a simple SQL-like query. Although simple
two-stream correlation is possible using regular SQL plus partitions, as
demonstrated in the SLAAlertTest, watching for multiple patterns across
more than two streams is now very easy with this "alert..using..when.."
clause.

powerful filtering, various search interface, spell checking, and junk
mail control. It supports common email protocols such as POP3, IMAP4rev1,
SMTP, and security features such as GnuPG and SSL/TLSv1. It is also fully
internationalized and multilingualized.
Changes: A close button was added to the address book dialog, and the
layout was improved. The automatic junk mail filtering on IMAP4 was
enabled. Automatically filtered IMAP4 messages are also counted for new
mail notification. Several crash bugs and other minor bugs were fixed. On
Win32, included libraries were updated to the latest version, the redraw

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office
About: Tellmatic is a tool to manage and create newsletters for
personalized mailing or mass mailing. Addresses and newsletters are stored
in groups to handle different user groups and thousands of addressses at a
time. SMTP is used for sending the newsletter to your subscribers to make
sure you get all error and bounce messages. Bounces can be handled
automagically via a small bounce-management module with POP3 access. It
also has a small form-editor and statistics. You can import and export
your addresses in CSV format.
Changes: A workaround was made for PHP5. A check for mem_get_usage() was
added. When importing, a new status can be selected for new and existing
addresses. Only addresses with status X are exported. The newsletter
variables {SUBSCRIBE} and {SUBSCRIBE_URL} were added. The installer now
checks for a writable directory. The installer now creates the directory

by twickline (http://freshmeat.net/users/twickline/)
Sun, Mar 18th 2007 06:03
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Emulators
About: Wine is an implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix.
It does not require Microsoft Windows, but can use native Windows DLLs if
they are available. It provides both a development toolkit for porting
Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many
unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes.
Changes: Many Direct3D fixes and performance improvements were made. More
comctl32 tests were added and some bugs were fixed. Compatibility
improvements were made in cmd.exe. Still more fixes were made to the
builtin OLE. Process control on Solaris is supported. Lots of bugs were
fixed.

[060] - Wyrm Tools 0.10.0
by Wyrm Tools (http://freshmeat.net/users/wyrmtools/)
Sun, Mar 18th 2007 19:28
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: Wyrm Tools is a suite of tools for any RPG system. The core
functionality of the platform includes a robust asset management system
and a character generator/editor. Users can use it to create their own
game systems, tools, data formats, etc.
Changes: Using the Apache FOP package, this release supports printing
directly to PCL- and PostScript-based printers, as well as printing to PDF
files. Only the d20 character element supports printing at this time, and
then to only a limited extent, but future releases are expected to
continually add to the printed information. All d20 races and classes now
have their full SRD description (including all tables). Replaceable rules
have been introduced to define how much a d20 skill costs a character at
each level, as well as the maximum skill rank a character can have in that
skill.

Sun, Mar 18th 2007 12:36
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
About: ZZIPlib provides read access on ZIP-archives. The library uses only
the patent-free compression-algorithms supported by zlib. Functions are
provided that transparently access files being either real files or zipped
files, both with the same filepath. The zip-archive can be used in the
place of a normal subdirectory. It is written in portable C.
Changes: The older stable 0.10.x series should be held as unmaintained
now. The latest changes in 0.13.x are cleaning up the code, make, and
documentation parts.
