[001] - Apache2::ModProxyPerlHtml 2.1
 by Gilles DAROLD (http://freshmeat.net/users/darold/)
 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 01:40

Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: Apache2::ModProxyPerlHtml is a mod_perl2 replacement of the Apache2
module mod_proxy_html.c, used to rewrite HTML/Javascript links for a
reverse proxy. It is very simple and has much better parsing/replacement
of URL than the C code. It also support refresh meta tag rewriting.

Changes: Support for compressed HTTP was added. Meta refresh parsing and
base href replacement using fully qualified URLs were fixed.

[002] - Aranea framework 1.0.6
 by Taimo (http://freshmeat.net/users/taimo/)
 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 01:46

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.

Changes: Values in forms living in one ’session thread’ can
now be easily modified from other ’session thread’ or
widget’s action listener. It is no longer necessary to do awkward
method calls for modified values to actually take effect.

[005] - btfs 1.2
 by Luciano Rocha (http://freshmeat.net/users/strange/)
 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 09:07

System :: Boot
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: btfs can be used as /init for constructing a run-time environment
before running the real init. It supports extracting compressed (*.cgz,
*.cbz2) and uncompressed (*.co) cpios located on a compile-defined
directory (/). Also, it creates a tmpfs filesystem as the new root, if /
isn't one already and the purpose of the initramfs isn't for starting a
system in another location (disk, network, etc.). That will allow for the
data on / to be swapped to disk when swap devices are activated later.

[006] - Cairo 1.4.2
 by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 08:24

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Cairo is a vector graphics library with cross-device output
support. It currently supports the X Window System and in-memory image
buffers as output targets. It is designed to produce identical output on
all output media while taking advantage of display hardware acceleration
when available (eg. through the X Render Extension). It provides a
stateful user-level API with capabilities similar to the PDF 1.4 imaging
model and provides operations including stroking and filling Bezier cubic
splines, transforming and compositing translucent images, and antialiased
text rendering.

Changes: Several crashes and buffer overflows were eliminated.
Transparency in several PDF viewers was fixed by a PDF color space
setting. Disappearing geometry under some transformations was fixed. A bug
with SVG radial gradients was fixed. Optimizations and several build fixes
were made.

[007] - Common UNIX Printing System 1.2.10
 by Michael Sweet (http://freshmeat.net/users/easysw/)
 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 08:31

Internet
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries

About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley
command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP")
as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect)
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network
printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing
options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image
file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP
Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript
files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON,
HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.

Changes: This release fixes the init script used to start the scheduler, a
recursion bug in the pdftops filter, and several other issues reported
after the 1.2.9 release.

Internet

About: CorneliOS a Web based virtual operating system that runs on top of
a host system and offers services via HTML or XHTML over the Web. It
offers a secure environment that supports multiple users, large amounts of
data, and timesharing. It offers a user interface that looks familiar and
is easy to handle and learn, while still introducing some new concepts. It
acts as a software integration system (especially for Web applications),
and allows users and developers to create their own applications and to
share them.

Changes: This release offers an improved installer, more unit tests that
now also check fatal errors in application helpers, scripts that allow you
to launch separate test suites, a working gui:flag element including
country flag images, and improved documentation files.

[010] - DBIx::Perlish 0.22
 by Grrrr (http://freshmeat.net/users/Grrrr/)
 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 05:29

About: The DBIx::Perlish module provides the ability to work with
databases supported by the DBI module using Perl's own syntax for the four
most common operations: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. By using
DBIx::Perlish, you can write most of your database queries using a
domain-specific language with Perl syntax. However, the module is not
intended to replace all use of SQL in your program. The DBIx::Perlish
module quite intentionally neither implements nor cares about database
administration tasks like schema design and management.

Changes: Understand multi-level hash dereferencing. Make empty updates not
valid.

 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 05:31

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: MIDI

About: GENPO (GENeral Purpose Organ) is a program which replicates the
essential features of any pipe, theatre, or reed organ. It reads a
description of an organ (a .org XML file) and presents a suitable user
interface for operating that organ. There are a number of high quality
organ "SoundFonts" freely available and the .org file maps the stop sounds
to organ manuals and stops. Other facilities such and couplers and presets
are available. You may connect one or more MIDI keyboards to GENPO to
provide the organ manuals, and you can even assign one to be the
'pedalboard' if so desired.

Changes: This release contains a critical fix for users of GCC version 4
and up. You must use this version if you are trying to build with GCC 4.
There are also major improvements to the (re)loading of organ definitions.
More redundant code was removed.

 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 02:54

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Games/Entertainment
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Gnome Simple Stateful Music Player is a small, simple music player
that keeps out of your way whenever possible. It remembers what you were
playing when you exited, and continues in the same place the next time you
start. It doesn't build a database of your audio tracks: instead it works
with your files and directories directly. It remembers tracks you have
been playing recently, and allows you to pick them up where you left off.

Changes: A file or directory name may now be supplied on the command line.
The installers now add an item to the menu. More comprehensive
documentation is included with the program. All known bugs were fixed.

 by David Cantrell (http://freshmeat.net/users/dcantrell/)
 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 13:36

System :: Filesystems
System :: Installation/Setup

About: GNU Parted is a package for creating, destroying, resizing,
checking, and copying partitions and the file systems on them. This is
useful for creating space for new operating systems, reorganizing disk
usage, copying data between hard disks, and disk imaging. It contains a
library, libparted, and a command-line frontend, parted, which also serves
as a sample implementation and script backend.

Changes: This release addresses a problem with the linux-swap filesystem
type. A change was introduced that created the linux-swap(new) and
linux-swap(old) filesystem types. This change is still present in the
development branch, but deemed not appropriate for the stable tree, so
this release has reverted to the previous usage of 'linux-swap' as the
filesystem type to maintain compatibility with other projects.

[026] - Logback 0.9.3
 by Sebastien Pennec (http://freshmeat.net/users/sebastienpennec/)
 Tue, Mar 20th 2007 06:18

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Logging

About: Logback is intended as a successor to the popular log4j project,
and was designed by log4j's founder, Ceki Gulcu. The basic architecture is
sufficiently generic so as to apply under different circumstances. It is
divided into three modules. The Core module lays the groundwork for the
other two modules, whereas the Classic module can be assimilated to an
improved version of log4j. It natively implements the SLF4J API so that
you can readily switch back and forth between logback and other logging
systems, such as log4j or JDK14 Logging. The Access module integrates with
Servlet containers to provide HTTP access log functionality. You can easily
build your own modules on top of the Core module.

Changes: Includes in configuration files are now supported by Joran,
logback's configuration framework. A file can contain an include element
that has a file or URL attribute pointing to a configuration file. A bug
was corrected. There is now a dependencies page that shows the
requirements of each of logback's modules. As with most of the logback
releases, the documentation has been improved in many aspects.

it), delivery to mbox files, maildir folders, or a mail delivery agent, a
very fast POP3 implementation, many authentication methods, and good
support for TLS/SSL.

Changes: This version has improved capability detection for servers that
are not 100% standards compliant. For example, POP3 pipelining is now
automatically used for pop.gmail.com and some other servers.

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
Utilities

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: Many new parameters can now be configured via the configuration
file. Many bugs were fixed. The on-line help and man-page were updated.
External scripts can now be used for conversions and color schemes. Many
new color schemes and conversions were added. Several command line
settings can now also be set via the interactive menus. The -[eE]X option
was added, which only gives the matching substring as a parameter to the
command which is invoked for each matching line. A check_mail value of 0
was not accepted, although it should be. wordwrap was added.
