[001] - ACE 5.5.7 (Development)
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that helps you develop and deploy high-performance
networked applications faster and with less code to write and maintain.
ACE is especially useful for systems that use network and/or inter-process
communications and that take advantage of multithreading. While the ACE
source code is free, that's not the only way you save money with ACE.
ACE's wrappers and higher-level patterns help you develop your software
quickly and portably, helping you to complete your projects on time and
within budget.

Changes: Support was added for VxWorks 6.x compilation using the diab
compiler or cross compilation using a Windows host. A new diffserv library
was added to specify diffserv priorities independent of RTCORBA. Many bugs
were fixed.

  by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
  Fri, Mar 23rd 2007 12:52

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: AnyEvent provides an identical interface to multiple event loops.
This allows module authors to utilize an event loop without forcing module
users to use the same event loop (as only a single event loop can coexist
peacefully at any one time). The interface itself is vaguely similar but
not identical to the Event module. On the first call of any method, the
module tries to detect the currently loaded event loop by probing for an
already-loaded event loop, such as Glib or Event. The first one found is
used. If none is found, the module tries to load an event module.

Changes: Watcher types to wait for signals and processes have been added.
Event model detection can now be forced. There are workarounds for bugs in
various Event models. Several bugs in AnyEvent itself have been fixed.

[004] - Auto Project Planner 0.10.0.1
  by don.didi (http://freshmeat.net/users/dondidi/)
  Fri, Mar 23rd 2007 08:42

Office/Business
Office/Business :: CRM
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Auto Project Planner automatically calculates a proper project plan
based on your effort estimations and the due dates you have in mind. A list
of tasks and a list of employees can be defined. Tasks can be assigned to
one or more employees. It is also possible to define a maximum percentage
value an employee can/should work on a task. Public holidays, leaves,
weekly working hours, and more parameters can be specified and are
considered in the calculation. According to this input, the software
computes time plans by minimizing the MSE (mean squared error) between
expected and computed end dates.

Changes: An initial version of the User Manual has been added.

[006] - Batchput 0.9.4
  by Johan Warlander (http://freshmeat.net/users/jwarlander/)
  Fri, Mar 23rd 2007 08:38

About: Batchput transfers files from a local directory, matching the regex
you specify, to a URL (FTP, FTPS, SFTP, HTTP, HTTPS, or anything else
supported by PycURL). Written in Python, it is primarily intended to
transfer "incoming" files continually to another host by being called
regularly from crontab or similar. It focuses on doing this safely and
efficiently by using per-directory locking to avoid collisions between
different batchput processes, allowing configuration of notification in
case of error (email by default, but can be any shell
command/script/program), and moving transferred files to a local backup
location where they can be archived or simply deleted.

Changes: This release adds the option of storing username/password in
netrc files in order to improve security for automated jobs (URL encoding
is no longer needed), and has a new option for using ASCII transfer mode
when required.

  Fri, Mar 23rd 2007 08:39

Communications :: Conferencing
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording

About: Boxtream is both an audio and video encoder and streamer and an
assembly of audio and video hardware, forming a mobile video streaming
studio. It is designed to easily record and stream live presentations
including a presenter and synchronized slides, or slides only, or
presenter only, and was built to stream live courses over the Internet for
distance learning students. It supports Extron video switchers (Kramer
support is planned). It can be entirely controlled remotely over XML-RPC,
and includes an X11 interface built with wxWidgets. It supports five
different streaming scenarios. The software can still be used without most
of the hardware included in the original boxtream project.

Changes: Several bugs were fixed all over the place. A check is now done
to warn the graphical frontend user if his version of the software doesn't
match the one installed on the encoding backend side. The documentation was
improved. The subversion repository was moved to a permanent one. A demo of
a recording was added to the Web site.

  Fri, Mar 23rd 2007 12:56

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Boot
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: Cobbler is a command line tool for configuring provisioning and
update servers. It supports provisioning via PXE, virtualization (Xen),
and re-provisioning an existing Linux system ("auto-kickstarting") when
having a PXE environment isn't possible. The latter two features are
enabled by usage of ’koan’ (a client side provisioning application) on the
remote system. Update server features include yum mirroring over rsync://
and integration of those mirrors with kickstart. Cobbler is easy to use
and has an accompanying Python API. It supports RHEL4+, Fedora Core 5+,
and derivative distributions.

Changes: This release fully uses Cheetah to template out the configuration
for the PXE server, so PXE setups, including timeouts and inclusion of
extra items (like memtest, ipappend 2, etc.) are now possible. See
/etc/cobbler/*.template for details. Another feature is vastly improved
DVD import capability, with shorter generated names, and better respect
for the kernel options limit. Kickstarts are better detected as well. See
http://et.redhat.com/page/Cobbler_Import for an example. There are other
miscellaneous changes.

[016] - eventxx 0.3
  by Leandro Lucarella (http://freshmeat.net/users/llucax/)
  Fri, Mar 23rd 2007 12:55

Software Development :: Libraries

About: eventxx is a simple, direct, one-header inline C++ wrapper for
libevent. It's just one header file, so using it is just a matter of
copying it into a project. It's designed to be as close to using libevent
as possible without compromising modern C++ programming techniques and as
efficient as possible. Since all implementation is trivial and inline, it
theoretically imposes no overhead at all.

Changes: This release adds a member function wrapper so that you can use
an arbitrary member function as an event handler. There are some minor
bugfixes related to eventxx::type vs. short usage.

About: GAIA Image Transcoder (GIT) is a library that operates image
transcoding, with a special focus on mobile applications. It comes in two
parts: a transformation and transcoding library that performs image
adaptation to mobile device using information retrieved from WURFL files,
and a very simple JSP tag library that enables library utilization in a
J2EE environment. The transcoding library works as a transformation
pipeline. The pipeline is composed of a set of filters. A filter can
operate directly on the image body, or indirectly on the associated
meta-information. The GIT architecture supports the management cycle of
such pipes, while GIT tag libraries simplifies their definition.

[026] - Layer-7 Packet Classifier for Linux 0.4 (Userspace)
  by Matthew Strait (http://freshmeat.net/users/quadong/)
  Fri, Mar 23rd 2007 00:20

Communications
Internet
System

About: L7-filter is a packet classifier for Netfilter that identifies
packets based on application layer (OSI layer 7) data. This means that it
is able to classify packets as HTTP, FTP, Gnucleus, Kazaa, etc.,
regardless of ports. It complements existing matches that classify based
on port numbers, packet length, TOS bits, and so on. Combined with Linux
QoS, it allows for full layer 7 packet shaping.

Changes: Using only part of the Netfilter packet mark, defined by a
bitmask, is now allowed. The configure script was improved.

About: lcdtest is a utility to display monitor test patterns. It was
originally written for use with LCD monitors, and may be useful in finding
pixels that are stuck on or off as well as for adjustment (automatic or
manual). However, it can be useful for CRT monitors as well. lcdtest uses
the SDL library, and has been used on Linux with X and on Windows, but may
work on other platforms supported by SDL.

Changes: The initial pattern is now crosshatch rather than solid. Now
initially displays a "for help press ?" message rather than the full help

About: UDPCast allows to send data simultaneously to many destinations on
