by Grrrr (http://freshmeat.net/users/Grrrr/)
Mon, Mar 26th 2007 17:06
About: The DBIx::Perlish module provides the ability to work with
databases supported by the DBI module using Perl's own syntax for the four
most common operations: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. By using
DBIx::Perlish, you can write most of your database queries using a
domain-specific language with Perl syntax. However, the module is not
intended to replace all use of SQL in your program. The DBIx::Perlish
module quite intentionally neither implements nor cares about database
administration tasks like schema design and management.
Changes: Support for inherited database handles. Special handling for the
package global $dbh.

[015] - GeoServer 1.5.0-RC3
by Chris Holmes (http://freshmeat.net/users/cholmes/)
Mon, Mar 26th 2007 09:40
Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Internet
About: GeoServer connects your information to the Geospatial Web. With
GeoServer, you can publish and edit data using open standards. Your
information is made available in a large variety of formats as maps/images
or actual geospatial data. GeoServer's transactional capabilities offer
robust support for shared editing. It supports WFS-T and WMS open
protocols from the OGC to produce JPEG, PNG, SVG, KML/KMZ, GML, PDF,
Shapefiles, and more. It is built on the GeoTools2 Java GIS toolkit.
Changes: This release contains numerous small bugfixes to bring GeoServer
quite close to 1.5.0. It greatly improves error reporting in the GUI with
regards to setting up data files, and adds a 'directory datastore' for
easier management, both simplifying the most common operations. A bug with
rotation in image files was fixed, along with multi-geometries in inline
features. PostGIS has an option to use 'estimated extents', for those with
huge datasets. A 'reflector' was added to allow defaults for WMS requests.
Also improved were SLD parsing date handling and logging.

Software Development :: Documentation
Text Processing :: General
Utilities
About: GNU Source-highlight produces a document with syntax highlighting
when given a source file. It handles many languages, e.g., Java, C/C++,
Prolog, Perl, PHP3, Python, Flex, HTML, and other formats, e.g., ChangeLog
and log files, as source languages and HTML, XHTML, DocBook, ANSI color
escapes, LaTeX, and Texinfo as output formats. Input and output formats
can be specified with a regular expression-oriented syntax.
Changes: Language definitions for makefiles, CSS files, and m4 files were
added. The --quiet option was added to show no progress information.
Direct color specifications in double quotes in style files are allowed.
In style files, one can specify formatting options for more than one
element on the same line. CSS files can be specified as style files (with
limited support). Background colors for single elements and the entire
document are now handled.

[017] - GNUnet 0.7.1c
by Christian Grothoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/grothoff/)
Mon, Mar 26th 2007 13:46
Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and
can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP
(IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to
provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build
on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.
Changes: This release includes a new Qt-based frontend, gnunet-qt. The
only other significant change is that expired content will no longer be
propagated or shown to end-users. As a result, expect to see significantly
fewer search results, but also significantly higher download success rates.
This release fixes a couple of other bugs discovered in 0.7.1b and adds a
few minor features, such as I/O load detection.

Desktop Environment
Software Development
About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server system based on the X11
protocol. In addition, NX also translates and embeds the MS Windows
Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX. NX is an order of magnitude
faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec.
By embedding RDP and RFB, it enables users to compress and accelerate
remote Windows and VNC sessions. NX lets you work fluently even across
slow links like modems. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and
X11 proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized
transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio over
the Internet.
Changes: The new server and node packages solve a number of problems. For
example, a printer may fail to be added on the server side if CUPS 1.2 is
installed, printing to SMB/CIFS can fail on SUSE 10.2, mounting shares
inside NX session can fail when using CIFS protocol, and resizing the NX
window can cause windows to be incorrectly repainted.

[040] - PHD Help Desk 1.2b
by J. Tuozzo (http://freshmeat.net/users/jtuozzo/)
Mon, Mar 26th 2007 07:16
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
About: PHD Help Desk is software conceived for the registry and follow-up
of help desks incidents. Registry of incidents allows classification in
two levels (type and subtype), the state of the incident, a description,
ticket assignment and priority, historical registry, and an audit.
Information can be reported in consultation format, to give reports or
export the information for later processing in a database or spreadsheet.
Changes: Several bugs were corrected. In the user request screen and the
input ticket screen, when searching for a user by last name and first
name, an error message saying, "The user doesn't exists, complete the
data," no longer appears. In the input ticket form, when the user has
pending tickets, the button to view this no longer incorrectly opens the
general query form. When the area to which an operator belongs changes, it
is no longer possible for the operator to view the private tickets assigned
to the old area. In some case, when modifying a ticket, the private flag
would change.
