[001] - amforth 1.6
by Matthias Trute (http://freshmeat.net/users/mtrute/)
Sun, Mar 25th 2007 11:17
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Hardware
About: amforth is a distribution of Forth running on the AVR ATmega
microcontroller. Once put into flash, it needs only a serial connection to
the host computer. New words are compiled directly into flash, thus
extending the dictionary immediately. It is ans94 Forth oriented with some
minor exclusions and a few words from the extension word sets. It is
written in assembly language and Forth itself. The main development uses
ATmega8 and ATmega32 controllers; other ATmega controllers should work
with small adjustments.
Changes: This is a code cleanup release. It fixes a few bugs and
introduces some new words for easier deployment on non-serial I/O
channels.

[003] - BetterAWstats 0.8 ALPHA
by tokyoahead (http://freshmeat.net/users/tokyoahead/)
Sun, Mar 25th 2007 07:06
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: BetterAWstats is an Web server log analysis tool that provides
better statistics from the data provided by AWstats. It is not a
replacement for AWstats. The most significant features are rolling months
and days, and support for new types of charts (pie, max/min, etc.).
Changes: A Top_x value for screen sizes has been added. Table creation has
been rewritten to allow better control through a config system. This
release adds Miscellaneous, HTTP Codes, and Color Depth. Days and weekdays
have been split into two different functions. A default config file for the
GUI config editor has been introduced. Display files have been split apart
from display helpers. Config variable reconstruction has been done. A
build config editor has been added. This release validates HTML strict. A
menu, full lists, and a table row counter for all tables have been added.

[004] - Blitz templates 0.4.11
by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
Sun, Mar 25th 2007 05:31
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Blitz templates is a fast template engine written in C and compiled
as a PHP module. It started as a php_templates replacement, but developed
into much more. It is based on extensible template controllers (custom
view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates (simple logic in HTML).
Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest template engines for PHP,
even though it's not trivial and makes Web application closer to the MVC2
architecture model. It was designed for big Internet projects with a lot
of complex presentation logic.
Changes: A new output wrapper "date" was added, will return a string
formatted according to the given format string. When the argument is
numerical, it is treated as a UNIX timestamp integer. Otherwise, it is
parsed using the internal PHP function "php_parse_date", which recognizes
a lot of date formats. The format string has the same conversion
specifiers as the PHP function "strftime". The "escape" output wrapper was
extended, so it will use ENT_QUOTES quoting style by default, but will use
ENT_COMPAT if "ENT_COMPAT" is passed as a second parameter.

[005] - Blogger Integration 1.3
by dakedo (http://freshmeat.net/users/dakedo/)
Sun, Mar 25th 2007 01:28
About: Blogger Integration is a package that can be used to import a blog
published in Blogger.com into another site. It uses the blog page files
exported with Blogger FTP blog publish support. The class can process one
or more blogs by parsing the blog page files to extract the posts,
comments, images, etc. The processed blog pages can be rendered and
published in another site with a different template. This package can also
integrate imported blogs with a site published with osCommerce.
Changes: The "Add to Yahoo" and "Add to Google" buttons are now inserted
into the blog.

[006] - BuGLe 0.0.20070325
by Bruce Merry (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmerry/)
Sun, Mar 25th 2007 05:55
Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
About: BuGLe combines a graphical OpenGL debugger with a selection of
filters on the OpenGL command stream. The debugger allows viewing of
state, textures, framebuffers, and shaders, while the filters allow for
logging, error checking, free camera control, video capture, and more.
Changes: Support was added for several of the new extensions exposed by
the G80 (a.k.a. GeForce 8800). These are not fully tested, especially
where NVIDIA hasn't released support in the drivers. The state viewer will
also look a little different, since some missing extension suffixes have
been added; for example, GL_TEXTURE_RECTANGLE_ARB was missing the _ARB.
Also, the ordering has been changed to better mirror the order in the
OpenGL 2.1 state tables.

[009] - Cedar Backup 2.13.0
by Kenneth J. Pronovici (http://freshmeat.net/users/pronovic/)
Sun, Mar 25th 2007 23:36
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities
About: Cedar Backup is a software package designed to manage system
backups for a pool of local and remote machines. Cedar Backup understands
how to back up filesystem data as well as MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
and Subversion repositories. It can also be easily extended to support
other kinds of data sources. Cedar Backup is focused around weekly backups
to a single CD or DVD disc. It supports multisession discs, allowing you to
add incremental data to a disc on a daily basis. Cedar Backup also provides
a Python library of backup-related functionality.
Changes: Minor bugfixes and enhancements were done. A check_media option
was added to store configuration and to force Cedar Backup to check media
before writing to it. (This prevents Cedar Backup from overwriting
non-backup media accidentally left in the drive during a backup run.) An
(optional) improved media blanking strategy was implemented, which will
only blank media if it looks like the next week's backup won't fit. (By
default, Cedar Backup still blanks media at the beginning of each week.)

by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
Sun, Mar 25th 2007 00:03
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: fwsnort translates snort rules into an equivalent iptables ruleset.
By making use of the iptables string match module, fwsnort can detect
application layer signatures which exist in many snort rules. fwsnort adds
a --hex-string option to iptables, which allows snort rules that contain
hex characters to be input directly into iptables rulesets without
modification. In addition, fwsnort makes use of the IPTables::Parse Perl
module in order to (optionally) restrict the snort rule translation to
only those rules that specify traffic that could potentially be allowed
through an existing iptables policy.
Changes: Support for multiple content matches was added, since this is
supported by iptables. This increased the fwsnort translation rate by 10%,
so about 60% of all Snort-2.3.3 rules can be translated now. Emulation was
added for distance and within from previous content match based on --from
and --to and the length of the previous pattern. The ability to include
the Snort "msg", "classtype", "reference", "priority", and "rev" fields in
each iptables rule with the comment match was added. This can be disabled
with --no-ipt-comments.

System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux Netfilter
firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It
features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible
defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Psad incorporates many of
the packet signatures included in Snort to detect various kinds of
suspicious scans, and implements the same passive OS fingerprinting
algorithm used by p0f.
Changes: Integration with fwsnort was improved, so psad signature match
syslog messages and email alerts now include the fwsnort rule number (for
fwsnort version 0.9.0 and greater) and chain information. The Snort
bleeding-all.rules signature file from the Bleeding Snort project was
added. uname, ifconfig, and syslog process information were added to
--Dump-conf output. The psad.SlackBuild script was added for building psad
on Slackware systems. It uses the Cipherdyne cd_rpmbuilder script to first

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.
Changes: The help messages have been updated at last. The Messages module
was rewritten, but does not use pretty-printing yet. The --limit-hint/-hl
option was changed to --restrict-hint/-hr to avoid the collision with
--list-hints/-hl. The hintDB object now saves and restores its derived
tables, and the collection object now saves the portal: both of these
should speed up the PHP-based use considerably. The code also checks for

Its aim is to become a full featured CAS in Python, while keeping the code
as simple as possible in order to be comprehensible and easily extensible.
Currently, Sympy has only around 1600 lines of code (including comments),
and its capabilities include basic arithmetics, basic simplification,
series expansion, functions (exp, ln, sin, cos, tan, etc.),
differentiation, integration (currently it can do only very simple
integrals), basic substitution, arbitrary precision integers and
rationals, standard (Python) floats, basic complex numbers, and symbolic
limits.
Changes: Symbolic matrices, Pauli algebra, and polynomials (division, gcd,
square free decomposition) are supported. Printing of advanced things was
moved out of the core. Slices on sympy's objects were implemented. Slices
are now the recomended way to access all of sympy's nested objects. The
Derivative and Limit classes were added. unknown functions may be easily
used for differentiation and other purposes. Complex numbers now work for
exp(I*x) and other uses. The evalc() method and initial support for
assumptions were added.

[065] - TeleKast 1.0.0.10a
by Lightscape Software (http://freshmeat.net/users/lightscape/)
Sun, Mar 25th 2007 01:19
Communications
About: TeleKast is a teleprompter. Scripts are created and used to create
content for the teleprompter. The scripts can also be used for doing
feature stories and interviews.
Changes: TeleKast now sports an automatic update feature. When an update
is available, the user will receive a notification the next time the
application is run. Once the update is downloaded, the user is given the
option to restart the application. Enhancements were made to the Segment
Clip. File locking is now done at the segment level as opposed to the
entire clip. Also, when you create a new segment in the Script Editor, a
checkbox gives you the option to save the segment to the Segment Clip as
well.

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office
About: Tellmatic is a tool to manage and create newsletters for
personalized mailing or mass mailing. Addresses and newsletters are stored
in groups to handle different user groups and thousands of addresses at a
time. SMTP is used for sending the newsletter to your subscribers to make
sure you get all error and bounce messages. Bounces can be handled
automagically via a small bounce-management module with POP3 access. It
also has a small form-editor and statistics. You can import and export
your addresses in CSV format.
Changes: Internationalization support was added via the php-gettext
emulation functions. About 570 gettext phrases were created and
translated, and quickhelp was translated to German and English. If a user
is unsubscribed and subscribes again, the status is set to "new",
otherwise status doesn't change for already registered users when they are
updated. The charset was switched to UTF-8. $mnl_siteid has been changed to
the constant MNL_SITEID. An NTLM SASL client was added. Menu.inc was
rewritten from scratch.

[067] - The Sleep Scripting Project 2.1-b14
by Raphael Mudge (http://freshmeat.net/users/rsmudge/)
Sun, Mar 25th 2007 01:39
Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Sleep is an embeddable scripting solution for Java applications. It
is heavily inspired by Perl with bits of Objective-C thrown in. Features
include function closures as first-class types, a unified I/O interface
for sockets/processes/files, and the ability to instantiate/query Java
objects. The Sleep Java API allows the language to be extended with new
constructs, operators, functions, and variable containers.
Changes: A splice function was added for manipulating arrays. Array
functions now normalize negative parameters as offsets from their total
length. Several other bugs were fixed. This release is the first potential
release candidate for the Sleep 2.1 development cycle.

Software Development :: Libraries
About: WxLib is a widely resuable C++ library that converts many
facilities that are found in the standard C library into a form that is
more appropriate for use in a C++ context. The library wraps functions for
dealing with threads, files, FIFOs, serial I/O, sockets, and directories.
It focuses on the correct use of C++ functions, and especially on the
correct use of error handling mechanisms.
Changes: Header files are now cleaner and more sensible. Number conversion
functions were revised. Example files were revised. Many bugs were fixed.
