About: Antiprism is a set of programs for generating, manipulating,
transforming, and viewing models of polyhedra.

Changes: There are three new programs. off2vrml converts from OFF format
to VRML. off_report and off_query make reports of geometrical and
topological information from an OFF file. Transparency handling has been
added.

  by vrok (http://freshmeat.net/users/wrochniak/)
  Fri, Apr 13th 2007 00:22

System :: Shells
System :: Systems Administration

About: Aptsh is a pseudo-shell for systems with the APT package managing
tool. It offers tab completion, and is smart enough to decide whether
you're trying to remove or install/ upgrade a package.

Changes: A bug which may have caused strange behavior of the orphans-*
commands on some architectures (i.e. ppc) was fixed. A bug in the rls and
ls commands was fixed: if a given argument matched files in the current
directory (wildcard), then the names of these files were used instead of
typed text in some shells. Aptsh can be run with commands as program
arguments. Many minor bugs were fixed, and many minor features were added.
Many internal improvements were done, and the code seems cleaner now.

[003] - arp-scan 1.6
  by Roy Hills (http://freshmeat.net/users/royhills/)
  Fri, Apr 13th 2007 01:44

Security
System :: Networking

About: arp-scan sends ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) queries to the
specified targets, and displays any responses that are received. It allows
any part of the outgoing ARP packets to be changed, allowing the behavior
of targets to non-standard ARP packets to be examined. The IP address and
hardware address of received packets are displayed, together with the
vendor details. These details are obtained from the IEEE OUI and IAB
listings, plus a few manual entries. It includes arp-fingerprint, which
allows a system to be fingerprinted based on how it responds to
non-standard ARP packets.

Changes: Support for Sun Solaris was added. This was tested on Solaris 9
(SPARC). The following new arp-fingerprint patterns were added for ARP
fingerprinting: IOS 11.2, 11.3, and 12.4; ScreenOS 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, and 5.4;
Cisco VPN Concentrator 4.7; AIX 4.3 and 5.3; Nortel Contivity 6.00 and
6.05; Cisco PIX 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, and 7.0. IEEE OUI and
IAB MAC/Vendor files were updated. HSRP MAC address was added to
mac-vendor.txt.

  Fri, Apr 13th 2007 02:03

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: Clonezilla is a partition or disk cloning tool similar to Symantec
Ghost. Unlike other open source clone tools such as G4U or G4L, Clonezilla
saves and restores only blocks in use on the hard drive if the file system
is supported. For unsupported file systems, dd is used instead. It has
been used to clone a 5 GB system to 40 clients in about 10 minutes.

Changes: A helper program was added to make it easier to mount a device or
resource as an image home. Clonezilla is run only in the first console
(tty1) when logging in as casper instead of running
/etc/rc2.d/S99ocs-live-run. This allows other consoles (2-6) to be
available when clonezilla is running. Some modifications were done to
increase security.

  Fri, Apr 13th 2007 15:44

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Filesystems

About: Coda is a distributed filesystem with novel features such as
disconnected operation and server replication.

Changes: Coda now works on 64-bit systems. The client and server were
successfully built and used on a machine with em64t extensions with a
64-bit Linux kernel. The new RVM-1.14 and RPC2-2.5 releases also
incorporate some essential 64-bit fixes. Another welcome change is that
venus now tries to keep cached access rights available for users even
across system reboots or client restarts, which should improve life for
people who frequently shut down or dual boot their machines.

Changes: The CQL parser, a new filter parser, was added. The 6.12 EPSG
database was updated. Tiled rendering was improved with meta buffer
automatic computation. Readers and iterators are automatically closed on
finalization, and warning messages are provided for unclosed resources.
Significant speed improvements were made in the Oracle datastore when
reading big geometries. An OGC compliant scale computation algorithm is
used. Lots of significant updates were made in the ARCSDE module, with
initial raster support. Various other fixes were done.

About: JPEG Fit is a class that can be used to optimize images to fit
within a given file size limit. It takes a picture in any format supported
by the GD library and generates a JPEG picture with the maximum quality
factor that makes the picture file size not exceed a given limit. This
class is similar to the JPEG Reducer class. It uses the binary search
algorithm to reach the ideal quality factor in the smallest number of
iterations. The class stops searching when a given number of limit
iterations is reached, or when the quality factor difference between the
ideal and the found values is less than the configured precision value.

About: The LSD mount utilities assist in setting up (creating) and
mounting encrypted loopback file systems in Linux 2.4 and 2.6. They also
enable users (not just root) to mount encrypted file systems if
appropriate entries have been added to /etc/fstab.

Changes: The installation footprint has been reduced by a factor of around
2.3. Formerly separate programs have been gathered into a single one. The
name under which the program is installed was changed. The tool verbosity
was greatly reduced (since standard error is now suppressed for most of

[040] - Network PDF Server YAFPC-Appliance 2.00a
  by Wolfgang Ullrich (http://freshmeat.net/users/ullrich/)
  Fri, Apr 13th 2007 10:42

About: YAFPC-Appliance is a CD-ROM image based on KNOPPIX technology and
the PDF composer/printer/mailer YAFPC. Any PC booted from this CD can act
as a PDF print server and provide an unlimited number of network shared
virtual PDF printers. The system requirements are low. System
configuration can be done via a Web browser from any workstation in your
network. Virtual shared printers can be configured to apply letterheads,
watermarks, and appendices to all printed documents. After printing, a
document is sent to its owner by email, or can be accessed in a shared
folder on the server. Deployment is very simple.

Changes: A new Plugin Module was added: The SNMP Agent Plugin 1.0. If
installed on a YAFPC-Appliance PDF Server, it enables read only access to
SNMP managed objects on this machine. SNMP versions V1, V2c, and V3 are
supported. This plugin can be used to monitor important system parameters
of the PDF server using NAGIOS, N-View, or other SNMP-based network

Changes: File-related state (character coding, path, subtitle format)
isn't maintained anymore after parsing. All file-related properties are
stored in FileProperties instead of SubtitleProperties. The parsing engine
has been refactored, with ParsingProperties being used to store the
properties set during parsing. The codepage attribution for some character
codings has been fixed. Some were removed as no codepages were available.
SubtitleSaver now includes all file saving functionality. This was

[051] - task spooler 0.4
  by viric (http://freshmeat.net/users/viric/)
  Fri, Apr 13th 2007 13:11

System

About: task spooler is a Unix batch system where the tasks spooled run one
after the other. Each user in each system has his own job queue. The tasks
are run in the correct context (that of enqueue) from any shell/process,
and its output/results can be easily watched. It is very useful when you
know that your commands depend on a lot of RAM, a lot of disk use, give a
lot of output, or for whatever reason it's better not to run them at the
same time.

Changes: This release allows killing by a signal the client processes
without a breakdown of the queue. There is an optional queue saving
utility in case the queue server dies by SIGTERM (as in shutdown). The
times() for the run tasks are stored. A buffer overflow bug on long

System :: Emulators

About: Wine is an implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix.
It does not require Microsoft Windows, but can use native Windows DLLs if
they are available. It provides both a development toolkit for porting
Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many
unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes.

Changes: The broken aRts sound driver has been removed for good. There are
many fixes to the Quartz DLL sound support. There are file I/O performance
improvements, an assortment of Direct3D fixes, and many bugfixes.

About: WxExtLib is a C++ library with extensions for the wxWidgets
cross-platform UI library. It contains control validators for immediate
status output, an extended message box class, various helper functions, a
few new controls, and more.

Changes: Some adaptions were made to better work with new wxWidgets
versions. Small changes were made for integration with WinXP.
WxExtLibConfig was reorganized. The wxWindowAdder class was added.
Refactoring was done from wxExtDialog to wxExtDlgBase. The wxOverlayAdder
class was added. The wxNonModalDialogManag class was added. The
StatusValidators source code was converted to use generic includes instead
of macros. wxTextCtrlStatusValidator now also works with wxChoice,
wxListBox, and wxComboBox controls. A variant of WxMessageFormat was added
to work with std::string.
