[022] - Hachoir core 0.9
by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
Sat, Apr 14th 2007 23:24
Software Development :: Disassemblers
Utilities
About: Hachoir is a Python library used to represent a binary file as a
tree of Python objects. Each object has a type, a value, an address, etc.
The goal is to be able to know the meaning of each bit in a file. Hachoir
is able to open invalid or truncated files. It only reads or computes data
on demand to minimize load times. Many field types are predefined (integer,
bit, string, etc.) and strings with a given character set (such as
ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8) are supported. Addresses and sizes are stored in
bits.
Changes: A string value is now always Unicode, even on a charset
conversion error. Creation of field value, display, and raw_display
attributes is now fault tolerant and uses the cache. The SeekableFieldSet
class is nearly complete and more robust. GenericFieldSet uses a lock to
avoid field creation recursion. The limitedMemory() function was added to
call another function with a memory limit. The Float80 type was added.

[023] - Hachoir metadata 0.10
by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
Sat, Apr 14th 2007 23:26
Multimedia
About: Hachoir metadata can extract metadata from archives (bzip2, gzip,
zip, tar), audio (MPEG audio/MP3, WAV, Sun/NeXT audio, Ogg/Vorbis, MIDI,
AIFF, AIFC, Real Audio), images (BMP, CUR, EMF, ICO, GIF, JPEG, PCX, PNG,
TGA, TIFF, WMF, XCF), and video (ASF/WMV, AVI, Matroska, Quicktime,
Ogg/Theora, Real Media). It supports invalid or truncated files and
Unicode text. It can remove duplicate values. It can also filter metadata
according to priority.
Changes: hachoir-metadata is now fault tolerant (like hachoir-core and
hachoir-parser). It is also robust against fuzzing tests. New supported
formats include Microsoft Office documents such as Word (.doc), Excel
(.xls), and Powerpoint (.ppt), X11 Portable Compiled Font (.pcf),
New-style Executable (Windows 16-bit program), and Microsoft Archive
(.mar). A distinction is made between the raw value and the formatted
value. Plugins were added for Nautilus and Konqueror.

[024] - Hachoir parser 0.10
by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
Sat, Apr 14th 2007 23:25
About: Hachoir parser is a collection of parsers for the most common file
formats. It was written for the Hachoir framework. It can open archives
(7zip, bzip2, gzip, rpm, tar, unix_archive, zip), audio (aiff, itunesdb,
midi, mpeg_audio/mp3, real_audio, sun_next_snd), video (asf, flv, mov,
mpeg_ts, mpeg_video), audio/video containers (asn1, matroska, ogg/vorbis,
ogg/theora, real_media, riff/avi, riff/wav, swf), filesystems (ext2,
fat12, fat16, fat32, iso9660, linux_swap, msdos_harddrive, ntfs,
reiserfs), game data (lucasarts_font, spiderman_video, zsnes), images
(bmp, gif, ico, jpeg, pcx, png, psd, targa, tiff, wmf, xcf), programs
(elf, exe, java_class, python), and more.
Changes: New parsers were added for Microsoft Windows animated icon
(.ani), Microsoft's HTML Help (.chm), Windows Shortcut (.lnk), X11
Portable Compiled Font (pcf), Microsoft Archive parser (.mar), and Adobe
Portable Document Format (PDF). Many constants are converted to Unicode.
The charset is set to ISO-8859-1 for many strings with no charset. The
MIME type is now in Unicode. Timestamps are stored as datetime.datetime().
MAC48_Address and NIC24 parser were added. An IEEE 24-bit organizationally
unique identifiers list was added.

[025] - Hachoir urwid 0.9
by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
Sat, Apr 14th 2007 23:58
About: hachoir-urwid is a binary file explorer that uses the Hachoir
library to parse files. Using this tool, you can know the exact meaning of
each bit/byte of your files. With direction keys, you can navigate in the
field tree. The key 'h' will disable 'human display' and switch to 'raw
display'. It's sometimes useful when you would like to compare hexadecimal
data and Hachoir representation.
Changes: Fixes were made to support the latest version of urwid (0.9.6+).
Updates were made to last versions of hachoir-core and hachoir-parser. The
command line option --force-mime was replaced with --parser, and the value
is now the parser identifier. The command line options --hide-value and
--hide-size were added.

[029] - libferris 1.1.106
by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
Sat, Apr 14th 2007 03:16
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Filesystems
About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using
C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or
directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various
data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with fam), XML
(mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb, Evolution, Firefox,
Emacs, LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA
generators include image, audio, and animation decoders.
Changes: This release adds support for mounting Web photo services like
23hq.com and flickr.com and support for f-spot tags. mountDOM() is now
faster. Copy operations now write to ferris-post-copy-action to give the
destination a chance to link metadata to the source.

[034] - nwbintools 0.1
by Nils Weller (http://freshmeat.net/users/nweller/)
Sat, Apr 14th 2007 03:09
Software Development :: Assemblers
About: nwbintools is a machine code tool-chain containing an assembler and
various related development tools. It will thus be similar to GNU's
binutils, but no attempts are made to duplicate its functionality,
organization, or interfaces. The assembler works on x86 ELF-based Linux
and FreeBSD systems.
Changes: This version contains a preliminary version of the assembler,
which currently only supports x86 ELF-based Linux and FreeBSD systems.
There are still lots of bugs and limitations which make it unsuitable as a
general purpose tool. However, it already works well with most code
generated by the nwcc C compiler.

About: nwcc is a C compiler for Unix systems. It targets
FreeBSD/OpenBSD/Linux/Solaris on 80x86 (with nasm and gas), FreeBSD/Linux
on AMD64 (with yasm and gas), Solaris on SPARC (64-bit), AIX on PowerPC
(32- and 64-bit), and IRIX on MIPS (64-bit). Cross-compilation is also
supported. It doesn't feature any software development support beyond
plain compilation.
Changes: This minor release adds support for OpenBSD/AMD64 and
Linux/SPARC64 (the latter port is not yet complete because parts of the
Linux ABI seem to differ from the Solaris ABI). In addition, on x86
systems, the new nwasm assembler can now be used instead of nasm/yasm/gas.

About: StreamCruncher is an Event Processor. It supports a language based
on SQL which allows you to define "Event Processing" constructs like
Sliding Windows, Time Based Windows, Partitions, and Aggregates. Such
constructs allow for the specification of boundaries (some are time
sensitive) on a Stream of Events that SQL does not provide. Queries can be
written using this language, which in turn can be used to monitor streams
of incoming events. It also provides a feature similar to materialized
