Internet
About: ctrlproxy is an IRC server with multiserver support. It runs as a
daemon and connects to a number of IRC servers, then allows you to connect
from a workstation and work as the user that is logged in to the IRC
server. After you disconnect, it maintains the connection to the server.
It acts like any normal IRC server, so you can use any IRC client to
connect to it. It supports multiple client connections to one IRC server
(under the same nick), allowing you to connect to IRC using your IRC nick,
even while you have an IRC session open somewhere else. It supports logging
(in any user-specified format), password authentication, and CTCP (in case
no clients are connected). IRC servers can be contacted over IPv6 and/or
using SSL. Automatic identification with NickServ is supported, as well as
various types of backlog.
Changes: Many bugs were fixed. A new help system has been introduced. The
documentation has been improved.

by John Dickson (http://freshmeat.net/users/captsens/)
Sun, Apr 15th 2007 06:30
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
About: The dbmstools module exists mainly for developers who need to
support applications on more than one database management system (DBMS).
It's intended to allow all the database information (schema and base data)
to be kept in one single place, and to have DBMS-specific scripts (for
creating and populating the database schema, and upgrading from one
version to the next) generated from that data. It can generate schema
documentation for any DBMS (including diagrams), and can export data from
a database in several formats. It also has wrappers for several tools so
that they can be run from within Apache Ant. It supports PostgreSQL 7 and
8, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and Hypersonic (limited support).
Changes: This release fixes a problem where schema diagrams couldn't be
generated using the latest version of the Graphviz package (version 2.12).

About: DDNSNotify is a program that logs into a (telnet-enabled) router
and retrieves the WAN IP address, but only if the IP address differs from
the DNS (A record) address for the domain name given. It is intend for
DynamicDNS applications, where the IP address for a Web site changes
(usually due to ISP rules). Thus, using the new IP address, you can update
your DNS records using another external script (such as zoneclient.py), so
that your Web site's downtime is reduced to a minimum. It currently
supports Draytek Vigor routers (and possibly other Draytek models).

Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: eHour is a Web-based time registration tool for project-based
businesses. The primary objective is to keep time tracking as simple as
needed while still being very effective at measuring and reporting the
amount of time your team spends on a project. It is developed in Java
(Spring and Hibernate) with a MySQL backend.
Changes: This is a major release with two new assignment types, project
manager reports, and a couple of UI enhancements and fixes. With the two
new assignment types flex and fixed time allotted, an admin can define a
maximum number of hours for an employee to book on a project. A project
manager can be assigned to a project. The project manager receives email
warnings when an employee books all the allotted hours, and (s)he can view
project specific reports. Full documentation has been added and some UI
improvements were implemented.

About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick
requires, and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time
the "display" program takes.
Changes: The bicubic scaler was fixed for the recently changed image
object copy semantic change. The PNM loader was fixed to correctly
byteswap all 16-bit samples on little endian CPUs. edisplay was enhanced

[020] - Extended Python Debugger 1.22
by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
Sun, Apr 15th 2007 11:44
Software Development :: Debuggers
About: Extended Python Debugger is a more complete debugger for Python
than the stock pdb.py debugger. It supports a "restart" command,
non-interactive POSIX-like line tracing, command options, disassembly of
instructions, and stack traces that give better information for exec
statements. Stepping/nexting skips over method/function "defs". It tries
to follow gdb's command set unless there is good reason not to.
Changes: Function tracing, interactive and non-intractive, was added;
calls and returns now show the nesting level. Support for Emacs 22 and 23
was added; there is better tolerance for emacs on MS Windows. ipython
interaction was improved. BSD make can now be used instead of GNU make to
build the debugger. Various bugs have been fixed.

[021] - fcron 3.0.3-rc1 (Development)
by Thibault Godouet (http://freshmeat.net/users/fcron/)
Sun, Apr 15th 2007 11:51
System
About: Fcron is a periodical command scheduler which aims at replacing
vixie cron, so it implements most of its functionality. It does not assume
that your system is running either all the time or regularly: you can, for
instance, tell fcron to execute tasks every x hours y minutes of system
uptime or to do a job only once in a specified interval of time. You can
also set a nice value to a job, run it depending on the system load
average, and much more.
Changes: This development version contains major changes in the build and
install processes: the underlying idea is to make them more standard and
to make fcron easier to package. This in particular means that the default
install paths have changed. Some portability work has also been done for
the AIX and Solaris platforms, and two new environment variables (LOGNAME
and TZ) are now defined when a job is run.

similar to SARG. Its main advantages over SARG are much better speed
(7x-20x), more support for reports, and W3C compliance of generated
HTML/CSS reports. It can be used to help control traffic usage, to control
Internet access security policies, to investigate security incidents, to
evaluate server efficiency, and to detect troubles with configuration.
Changes: This release adds -v/-h standard command line options, and adds a
locale option to free-sa.conf. It has more correct options checking. Any
locale support for the '-d' option has been fixed. There are
documentation/examples corrections. Initial internal work for real-time

Sun, Apr 15th 2007 18:36
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking
About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, advanced traffic
regulation with surge protection, automatic failover, run-time regex-based
header control, Web-based reporting, advanced logging to help

About: WordFlashReader is a Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP)
program useful to anyone who has an electronic text or book they wish to
read. This program works with text files, HTML files, and PDF files.
WordFlashReader works by flashing each word of the text sequentially on
the screen (pausing for punctuation). Not only is this way of reading off
of a computer screen more comfortable on the eyes than the normal method,
but also after a little practice you may discover that you can read at
multiple times the speed you normally do.
Changes: This version now runs on both Windows and Linux. The user
interface was completely rewritten, and support for different text
encodings was implemented. It gives you words-per-minute, the amount of
text completed, and time remaining. Configuration of fonts and various
display colors was greatly improved. The program opens *.txt, *.html, and
*.pdf, and prepares the text for reading automatically.

About: Yate is a next-generation telephony engine. While currently focused
on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and PSTN, its power lies in its
ability to be easily extended. Voice, video, data, and instant messaging
can all be unified under Yate's flexible routing engine, maximizing
communications efficiency and minimizing infrastructure costs for
businesses.
Changes: This release adds support for Jingle (GoogleTalk), XML, and
improved PBX support. It fixes one minor security bug and several others
not security related.

About: Zile is a small, fast, and powerful Emacs clone. It is useful for
small footprint installations (e.g. on floppy disk) or quick editing
sessions.
Changes: This release fixes some build problems on older systems
(specifically, SunOS 5.9). There is no need to upgrade from 2.2.29 if that
version already builds for you.
