Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

Software Development

About: Advanced Website Creator is a Web development environment. Created
websites use an MVC framework written in PHP 5 and a simple database
abstraction layer. At present the database layer supports MySQL,
PostgreSQL, and SQLite as backends. All PHP classes are auto-loaded, so
there is no need to include() or require() files manually. Search engine
friendly URLs are supported via mod_rewrite.

Changes: A wizard that allows quick creation of Web forms has been added.
Transactions and save points support have been added to the MySQL and
PostgreSQL backends. When a database backend with transaction support is
used, all action handlers are wrapped in database transactions, which
guarantees that the database state is always consistent. Functions have
been added to the database API that allow creation, erasing, and rollback
to transaction save points, provided that the underlying database backend
supports transactions and save points. There are various small code
cleanups and improvements.

[005] - BeanKeeper 2.3.0
  by Robert (http://freshmeat.net/users/demonofthesystem/)
  Mon, Apr 30th 2007 17:05

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: BeanKeeper (formerly Simple Persistence for Java) is a full
featured, powerful object/relational persistence and query library. It has
a unique philosophy of simpleness and ease of use: it does not require
config files, annotations, code generation, code "enhancing", or any kind
of tools to be used. It handles simple Java beans (or POJOs) and its query
service returns lists. Despite its simpleness, under the hood the library
takes care of all the necessary logic: transaction visibility, result list
paging, keys and ids, table creation/modification, class relations,
inheritance/polymorphism, case sensitiveness, and much more. It currently
supports: Oracle, HSQLDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

Changes: BeanKeeper was renamed from Simple Persistence for Java. Dynamic
object support was added, which enables creation of runtime classes with
runtime defined attributes. Polymorphism has been extended to include all
interface classes and superclasses, even java.lang.Object. For example,
the query "find object" returns all objects in the database. Extended
Collections support has been added. Now all container types (List, Set,
Collection, and Map) can contain virtually unlimited entries without
affecting memory usage, because they are automatically paged, but still
modifiable. Locking support was added.

[006] - Bitgate Server Software Environment 0.3.3
  by Ken Hollis (http://freshmeat.net/users/Tsuichi1/)
  Mon, Apr 30th 2007 07:01

Internet

About: Bitgate Server Software Environment aims to build a multi-protocol
environment in which server protocol handlers can be eventually loaded and
unloaded on the fly using a center console or controller Web page. It aims
to have 99.9% uptime, and have high-availability (Java 6) compliance. It
is written in Java 5, and relies completely on Java's I/O functionality to
provide non-blocking support for both SSL and non-SSL sockets
(transparently). All configuration is done via XML files, as this is
easier to maintain. It includes a minimal demonstration HTTP server.

Changes: A major overall cleanup was done for most of the classes to
support more thread-safe semantics of Java 6 and the Memory JSR. Some of
the code was refactored for faster execution.

About: ikiwiki converts a directory full of wiki pages into HTML pages
suitable for publishing on a Web site. Unlike many wikis, ikiwiki does not
have its own ad-hoc means of storing page history, and instead uses a
revision control system such as Subversion. ikiwiki implements all of the
other standard features of a wiki, including Web-based page editing, user
registration and logins, a RecentChanges page, BackLinks, search,
Discussion pages, tags, smart merging and conflict resolution, page
locking, and commit email messages. It also supports generating RSS feeds
and blogging, and a plugin system allows many other features to be added.

Changes: This release rolls up a year of work since the 1.0 release,
adding features including OpenID, a plugin system with many plugins, tags,
Atom feeds, UTF-8 support, support for most popular revision control
systems, and support for markup languages other than Markdown. It is

  Mon, Apr 30th 2007 06:54

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Video

About: The media hive is a streaming media server and Web-based
content/playlist manager. It emphasizes usability by making it easy to
manage a media catalog that contains multiple media types (mp3, mpg, avi,
etc.), and by providing a very full-featured playlist. It also emphasizes
extensibility by making it easy to develop new media parsers, playlist
actions, event handlers, skins, and more. It has an entire custom tag
library devoted to skin development, making it simple for the
non-developer to create radically different Web-based user interfaces. It
has no installation dependencies and runs on multiple platforms.

Changes: The media hive now collects usage data, and can report on the
most played media in a date range. A multi-function menu control to easily
interact with playlist entries was added. This release also includes
performance enhancements and bugfixes.

[031] - MirBSD #10-beta (2007-04-30) (Snapshots)

  Mon, Apr 30th 2007 17:13

System :: Operating System
System :: Operating System Kernels :: BSD

About: MirBSD originated as a patch set against OpenBSD-current, an ultra
secure operating system and NetBSD derivate, and has since also
incorporated changes from NetBSD, a 4.4BSD-derived ultra portable
operating system. It features bugfixes, code removal for the sake of
simplicity, and feature enhancements over stock OpenBSD as well as a much
more up-to-date GNU toolchain, careful integration of patches from other
projects (such as KAME), and many improvements. It works on the Intel
Pentium and some 80486 machines with more than 32 MiB RAM and the SPARC,
and a port to the PowerPC Macintosh is in preparation.

Changes: This snapshot is already very close to the upcoming release. Its
main features are closing the IPv6 routing header gap; updates to OpenSSH,
sendmail, and others; bugfixes; and a lot of code cleanup. In MirPorts,
many packages were fixed, newly added (like ntfsprogs), or updated (like
Opera).

[032] - MirBSD Korn Shell R29d
  by mirabile (http://freshmeat.net/users/mirabile/)
  Mon, Apr 30th 2007 17:10

System :: Shells

About: The MirBSD Korn Shell (mksh) is an actively developed successor of
pdksh (the Public Domain Korn Shell), aimed at producing a shell good for
interactive use, but with primary focus on scripting. It is intended to be
portable to most *nix-like operating systems as long as they're not too
obscure. mksh incorporates improvements from OpenBSD and Debian, as well
as bugfixes and enhancements developed for the MirOS and FreeWRT projects.
The emacs command line editing mode is UTF-8 capable, and Byte Order Marks
are ignored in scripts. The shell supports large files, as well as all
pdksh and some csh, AT&T ksh, and GNU bash features, is compatible with
the Bourne shell and POSIX (within limits, but you can turn off brace
expansion), has no limit on array sizes, and incorporates some other
useful builtins and features. While being already fast and small (without
losing functionality), flags to make it even smaller can be given at
compile time. An interactive shell reads "~/.mkshrc" on startup.

Changes: The test suite has been fixed on Mac OS X / Darwin. The HP-UX
port has been improved. A new contributed AIX port has been added. gcc
"-fwhole-program --combine" is not used, as it's buggy. Small portability
fixes. Small fixes to the man page. Size optimisations. The PDF man page
is PDF 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x) again. RPM packages can be retrieved from the
OpenSuSE Build service.

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: ServingXML is a markup language for expressing XML pipelines and an
extensible Java framework for defining the elements of the language. It
defines a vocabulary for expressing flat-XML, XML-flat, flat-flat, and
XML-XML transformations in pipelines. The accompanying console app
supports reading content as XML files, flat files, SQL queries, or SAX
events, and writing it as XML, HTML, PDF, or mail attachments. This
software is especially suited for converting flat file or database records
to XML, with its support for namespaces, variant record types, multi-valued
fields, segments and repeating groups, hierarchical grouping of records,
and row-by-row validation with XML Schema. There is also an API for
embedding the software in a Java application.

Changes: Flat to XML and XML to flat mappings have both been generalized.
Flat to XML supports more ways of grouping records, and XML to flat now
supports mapping XML subtrees to repeating groups of records.

[058] - strongSwan 4.1.2
  by Andreas Steffen (http://freshmeat.net/users/asteffen/)
  Mon, Apr 30th 2007 06:48

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: strongSwan is a complete IPsec and IKEv1 implementation for Linux
2.4 and 2.6 kernels. It also fully supports the new IKEv2 protocol with
Linux 2.6 kernels. It interoperates in both IKEv1 and IKEv2 mode with most
other IPsec-based VPN products. The focus of the strongSwan project is on
strong authentication mechanisms using X.509 public key certificates and
optional secure storage of private keys on smartcards through a
standardized PKCS#11 interface. A unique feature is the use of X.509
attribute certificates to implement advanced access control schemes based
on group memberships.

Changes: The following IKEv2 features have been added: Perfect Forward
Secrecy (PFS) by doing an additional Diffie-Hellman exchange when creating
or rekeying a Child SA. The AES-XCBC-96 MAC algorithm is supported for
IPsec SAs (this requires Linux kernel 2.6.20 or later). Working
IPv4-in-IPv6 and IPv6-in-IPv4 tunnels were added (this requires Linux
kernel 2.6.21 or later).

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Swingweb is an implementation of the AWT toolkit that enables an
AWT/Swing application to operate inside a Web container and display as a
Web application to a Web browser, purely in HTML with CSS, JavaScript, and
AJAX. No code conversion is required for a Swing application to run in the
SwingWeb environment. SwingWeb allows a developer to use the Swing UI
model for Web application development, which should save development cost
by merging the development process of both a desktop application and a Web
application.

Changes: New features include a GWT AJAX thin-client implementation, a
thin-client protocol, and a dojo component template set. As usual, there's
a tomcat demo pack along with the release.
