[001] - Aranea framework 1.0.9
  by Taimo (http://freshmeat.net/users/taimo/)
  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 05:31

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.

Changes: Small bugfixes were made to <ui:link> and <ui:tree> tags. Minor
feature enhancements were made.

About: Archiveopteryx is an Internet mail server, optimized to support
heavy usage and long-term archiving. It stores mail in a PostgreSQL
database, and provides access to it through IMAP, POP, and more.

Changes: A very serious SMTP submit bug was fixed. A new feature to copy
outgoing mail to the sender was added. Support for SMTP+TLS on port 465
was added for Outlook. HTTP archive display improvements were made. A few
minor bugs were fixed.

[003] - Avis client library 1.0
  by Matthew Phillips (http://freshmeat.net/users/scramjet/)
  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 05:26

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: The Avis client library is a Java API for clients accessing Elvin
event routers, including the open source Avis event router and the
commercial Mantara Elvin product. It fulfills the same role as Mantara's
"je4" library, but is a more modern Java 5 API.

Changes: This release marks a stable baseline for the Java client API. The
core set of features required for an Elvin client library are now
implemented and stable, including subscription, notification, security,
close event notification, liveness checking, and router connection option
support.

[004] - Bare XML 0.11
  by David Helkowski (http://freshmeat.net/users/codechild/)
  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 19:59

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: Bare XML is a "bare" XML parser with all primary parsing done via a
simple state engine with about 20 or so different states. A tree structure
is created during parsing, with all node names and values linked via
pointers directly into the original text buffer. As such, Bare XML is
extremely fast and simple. Currently, the parser is available in a perl
module with Perl glue to turn the created tree into a Perl hash tree. The
module name is XML::Bare.

Changes: XS code ha been changed so that it is backwards compatible with
older versions of Perl. XS code ha been changed to use 'blind' pointers, a
custom created Perl Scalar. Speed is increased as a result for XML with
large contiguous values. XS routines are 30% more efficient. The speed of
parsing and Perl hash creation is now very good in comparison to all
currently available alternatives in Perl. The library ha been rewritten
using XS instead of SWIG. The parser has been rewritten in C to avoid
dependency on g++. After node parsing, C tree structure memory is now
freed.

  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 04:29

Education
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Utilities

About: BigAl is a platform independent program for calculating really big
numbers. It supports not only standard arithmetic, but also calculations
with numbers stored in files, exact period determination, continued
calculation with predefined factorials, fibonacci with customized seeds,
lucas, factorization, ackermann, nth root, random number generation, and
more.

Changes: Support for the square root and the nth root function have been
added. There is also support for converting a number to and from a numeral
system now (base, tobase). The parameter limits have been removed from the
functions fibonacci/lucas, factorial, choose, and power.

[006] - Bitgate Server Software Environment 0.4.0
  by Ken Hollis (http://freshmeat.net/users/Tsuichi1/)
  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 05:11

Internet

About: Bitgate Server Software Environment aims to build a multi-protocol
environment in which server protocol handlers can be eventually loaded and
unloaded on the fly using a center console or controller Web page. It aims
to have 99.9% uptime, and have high-availability (Java 6) compliance. It
is written in Java 5, and relies completely on Java's I/O functionality to
provide non-blocking support for both SSL and non-SSL sockets
(transparently). All configuration is done via XML files, as this is
easier to maintain. It includes a minimal demonstration HTTP server.

Changes: Major changes include stability updates, memory leak fixes, and a
separation of Service work into separate thread objects. Worker objects now
handle the work that the Service code originally handled. In addition, the
system is more scalable as a result. More refactoring changes were made,
including a Thread Group system that dynamically resizes itself based on
activity.

[007] - BlockHosts 2.0.5
  by Avinash Chopde (http://freshmeat.net/users/avinash1/)
  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 11:37

System :: Networking

About: BlockHosts is a script to record how many times a local system is
attacked, based on configurable scanning of system logs for sshd or other
services. When a particular IP address exceeds a configured number of
failed login attempts, that IP address is blocked using hosts.allow files,
or by using null-routing, or by using packet filtering. An email
notification facility is also available.

Changes: This release updates the vsftpd rule and adds an
--enable-patterns option to enable specific rules at run-time. Email
notification is now sent on both adds and deletes of host IP addresses,
and the source distribution includes the test routines.

[008] - boto 0.9a
  by garnaat (http://freshmeat.net/users/garnaat/)
  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 08:25

About: Boto provides an integrated interface to current and future
infrastructural services offered by Amazon Web Services. Currently, this
includes: Simple Storage Service (S3), Simple Queue Service (SQS), Elastic
Compute Cloud (EC2), and Mechanical Turk.

Changes: Amazon's Mechanical Turk service is supported. The 2007-01-19
version of the EC2 API is supported. The S3 interface now allows you to
iterate over all keys in a bucket, transparently handling the paged
results returned by S3. The new SQS methods GetQueueAttributes and
SetQueueAttributes are now supported. This allows you to query a queue for
the approximate number of messages in the queue. The S3 library now fully
supports the delimiter option. The S3 library now allows a callback to be
passed to the methods that get/put content to S3.

[009] - CacheGuard OS 4.0.0b
  by Afshin Tajvidi (http://freshmeat.net/users/tajflow/)
  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 11:29

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security

About: CacheGuard is a Linux-based operating system dedicated to Web
traffic control and optimization. It transforms an x86-based machine into
a powerful, Web gateway appliance. It allows you to secure Web traffic for
Web surfers and also Web servers (in reverse mode). It supports HTTP
transparent implementation, HTTP compression, Web caching, URL black- and
whitelists guarding, and Web server load balancing. It features a stateful
firewall with NAT and PAT. It integrates a caching DNS, a DHCP server, a
bandwidth shaper to manage the QoS, a load sharing system, and an HA (high
availability) mode with VRRP and link bonding.

Changes: A reverse mode is at last available in this version. This mode
allows you to implement the appliance as a reverse proxy in front of Web
servers to secure, accelerate, and shape Web traffic (see the commands
"mode" and "rweb"). SSH key loading works properly. SATA storage
controllers are supported again (support was accidentally removed from the
previous version). The keyword "gencert" is renamed "confcert" in the
command admin.

photos taken with a digital camera to an online photo gallery. The rotate,
crop, and resize parameters are stored as text data with the images, and
the operations are only performed on a copy of the photo while exporting,
thus preserving the original picture files. Gallery Mage provides
abstraction from the online display software.

Changes: Significant speed optimization was done by using JAI for image
processing. Improvements were made to interface and usability. The ability
to view all photos or just selected/unselected photos was added. RAW+JPEG
support was improved (for Canon DSLR cameras).

[031] - libnetdude 0.10a
  by Christian Kreibich (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpk/)
  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 15:37

System :: Networking

About: libnetdude is the packet manipulation backend of the Netdude trace
file editing framework. It allows you to perform trace file manipulations
at a much higher level of abstraction than code written directly for the
pcap interface. It also supports plugins (dynamically loaded libraries)
that can essentially do whatever the programmer desires. When developers
write their packet manipulation code as libnetdude plugins, this instantly
allows other developers to use their tools. It provides data types and APIs
for the most common situations when dealing with libpcap trace files: trace
files of arbitrary size, packets, network protocols, packet iterators, and
packet filters, just to name a few.

Changes: This release will initialize the new packet data when the caplen
is increased.

  Sun, Jun 24th 2007 15:30

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: As suggested by several users, a socket library (socket.s7i) was
added. Two example programs, tst_srv.sd7 and tst_cli.sd7, to test socket
functionality were added. The popen function was added. The compiler was
improved to support hash tables with floats, various for loops over hash
tables, and the new socket library. The compiler now compiles the programs
bas.sd7 and wordcnt.sd7. The wator.sd7 example program was improved. The
heap management and the heap statistic were improved. Several function
prototypes were changed to use 'const' types.
