logical entity into any environment. It includes remote execution and
logical command dispatching, automation, versioning and full rollback
capabilities, logging and reporting, fine grained access controls, change
detection and configuration validation, application status discovery, log
monitors to catch startup exceptions, and GUI and command line tools.

[030] - mpiBLAST 1.4.0-pio
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Tue, Jun 26th 2007 14:36
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: mpiBLAST is an MPI based parallel implementation of NCBI BLAST. It
consists of a pair of programs that replace formatdb and blastall with
versions that execute BLAST jobs in parallel on a cluster of computers
with MPI installed. There are two primary advantages to using mpiBLAST
versus traditional BLAST. First, mpiBLAST splits the database across each
node in the cluster. Because each node's segment of the database is
smaller it can usually reside in the buffer-cache, yielding a significant
speedup due to the elimination of disk I/O. Second, it allows BLAST users
to take advantage of efficient, low-cost Beowulf clusters because
interprocessor communication demands are low. mpiBLAST achieves
super-linear speedup in situations where the database is too large to fit
into RAM, and near linear speedup in other situations. It does not require
a dedicated cluster.
Changes: This release adds parallel I/O.

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet
About: Nodezilla is a secured, distributed, and fault tolerant routing
system (or grid network) that supports distributed services such as file
sharing, chat, efficient video multicast streaming, and secured file
storage. It provides cache features where any server may create a local
replica of any data object. These local replicas provide faster access
and robustness to network partitions, and reduce network congestion by
localizing access traffic. To ensure data protection, redundancy and
cryptographic techniques are used.
Changes: A new installer was added that fixes SideBySide runtime
installation on Windows. Support for Vista's ASLR linking was added. Some
bugs were fixed. The new experimental code for closed firewall/NAT
traversal is now active.

by regit (http://freshmeat.net/users/regit/)
Tue, Jun 26th 2007 00:48

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: NuFW is an authentication firewall suite: the gateway authorizes a
packet depending on which remote user has sent it. It can also set quality
of service on a per-user basis and log user activities into a SQL database.
Furthermore, it can use an external authentication source such as an LDAP
directory and be the key of a Single Sign On solution.
Changes: A problem in the protocol between nufw and nuauth has been found
when nufw and nuauth run on different physical architectures. It has lead
to an upgrade of protocol version. Some improvements have been made. In
particular, IPv4 addresses are now displayed in their standard notation

by Eric Lafortune (http://freshmeat.net/users/lafortune/)
Tue, Jun 26th 2007 14:10
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: ProGuard is a free Java class file shrinker, optimizer, and
obfuscator. It can detect and remove unused classes, fields, methods, and
attributes. It can then optimize bytecode and remove unused instructions.
Finally, it can rename the remaining classes, fields, and methods using
short meaningless names. The resulting jars are more compact and more
difficult to reverse-engineer. Advantages of ProGuard compared to other
Java shrinkers and obfuscators are compact template-based configuration,
memory efficiency, and speed.
Changes: This release fixes a number of bugs. Notably, ".class" constructs
compiled in Java 6 are now handled correctly. The optimization step now
avoids a possible division by 0 and correctly processes local variables
with indices larger than 255. The documentation and examples have been
updated.

About: Sleutel is a multi-platform password manager that is written using
the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP). Its goal is to manage password/ID
pairs for accessing Web sites and to provide an example RCP application.
It features configurable password generation, labeling of password entries
(a la GMail), an intuitive UI following the Eclipse model, merge
capabilities, and the ability to track usage count and dates of password
entries. Sleutel is the Dutch word for key.
Changes: Configurable encryption support based on Sun JCE provider
infrastructure was added. For example, Sleutel will allow you to use any
password based encryption algorithm you provide through the Java JRE.
Keyboard shortcuts and preferences were added (using Eclipse's RCP

by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
Tue, Jun 26th 2007 14:29
Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Stunnix VBS-Obfus protects your VBScript code from potential
analysis, study, or reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the VBScript code. It converts the VBScript in raw .vbs
files, or in ASP or HTML pages into a highly obfuscated form, making it
extremely difficult to study, analyse, or reuse, while fully retaining
functionality of the original source code. It optionally adds expiration
and hostname checking. It has a lot of options to control all aspects of
code hiding, and has full support for all syntax constructs. It is
designed to be multi-module aware.
Changes: The case of characters in HTML tag and attribute names can now be
chosen randomly (to make a protected file look less readable), or tag and
attribute names can be lowercased, uppercased, or left as is. The ability
to specify the percentage of characters that are converted into HTML
entities has been added: converting only some characters (rather than all)
into entities makes a protected file look more random and less readable.
Various small improvements have been introduced.

Changes: Allows the user to provide a list of products instead of only
allowing one product per command: thirdphase -D camino webkit firefox.
Allows the use of static URLs that use redirects with the Location: header
to a non-static download. Something changed in Apple's DiskImage framework
that does not allow a DMG's SLA to be bypassed. So for instance on all
