[001] - ACE 5.5.9 (Development)
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Wed, Jun 27th 2007 16:25
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that helps you develop and deploy high-performance
networked applications faster and with less code to write and maintain.
ACE is especially useful for systems that use network and/or inter-process
communications and that take advantage of multithreading. While the ACE
source code is free, that's not the only way you save money with ACE.
ACE's wrappers and higher-level patterns help you develop your software
quickly and portably, helping you to complete your projects on time and
within budget.
Changes: This release adds support for Intel C++ specific optimizations
for Linux on IA64. It improves support for ACE_OS::fgetc, and adds support
for other low-level I/O. Shared library builds on AIX now produce a
libxxx.so file. A workaround has been added for a bugfix in GCC in Fedora
Core 7. The footprint has been reduced on some platforms. Major
improvements have been made to IPv6 support. TAO DDS enhancements have
been added. There are assorted bugfixes and other minor enhancements.

[002] - ALT Linux 4.0.1 (Server)
by Michael Shigorin (http://freshmeat.net/users/gvy/)
Wed, Jun 27th 2007 16:38
System :: Software Distribution
About: ALT Linux is a set of Linux distributions that are based on
Sisyphus, an APT-enabled RPM package repository that aims to achieve
feature completeness, usability, and security in a sensible and manageable
mixture.
Changes: This release starts the Server branch of ALT Linux. It integrates
the OpenVZ kernel, tools, and Web-based management interface allowing you
to create and manage VPS templates and instances. The distribution shares
security enhancements with the Owl GNU/*/Linux project, and is supported
with regular updates for three years. It is available as i586/x86_64 ISOs,
with several thousand more packages in the online repository.

[003] - amavisd-new 2.5.2
by Mark Martinec (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmartinec/)
Wed, Jun 27th 2007 10:38
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between
MTAs and one or more content checkers, including virus scanners, and/or
the Mail::SpamAssassin Perl module. It talks to an MTA via (E)SMTP or
LMTP, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design,
which could cause a mail loss. It is normally positioned at or near a
central mailer, not necessarily where the user's mailboxes and final
delivery takes place.
Changes: Logging to SQL in a Milter setup was fixed. Message are saved
only once when an archival quarantine is co-situated with other
quarantines. Statistics counters are now available for cases where a pen
pal's feature has prevented a mail message from being blocked, allowing
assessing usefulness of pen pals and facilitating adjusting of SA rules to
minimize false positives. Incorporating additional configuration files has
been made easier by a new routine include_config_files. A workaround for a
crashing altermime has been provided. Two AV entries were updated.
Documentation has been updated.

by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Wed, Jun 27th 2007 22:36
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Asterisk is a hybrid TDM and packet voice PBX (Private Branch
eXchange) and IVR platform with ACD functionality. It acts as middleware
between the Internet (IAX, SIP, MGCP, Skinny, H.323), telephony channels
(like Zaptel, T1, PRI, E1, FXO, FXS, VoIP, VoFR, ISDN, modems, Internet
Phone Jack, etc.), and applications (like voice-mail, conferencing,
directories, MP3 players, intercoms, etc.). It has many advanced features
such as a codec translation API. The base distribution includes several
channel backends, as well as applications. However, the beauty of Asterisk
is its ability to be extended using its APIs, dynamic module loader, and
AGI scripting interface. End users can even write their own applications
that run on the system in C or any scripting language of their choice.
Changes: Numerous bugfixes, including fixes for crashes and other serious
issues.

[006] - Asymptote 1.31
by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering
About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: Garbage collection was dramatically improved, resulting in
reduced memory usage and increased speed. The array virtual member
function delete() with no arguments explicitly deletes all elements of the
array. An interpolate(real[][] f, pen[] palette) function was added for
constructing the pen array needed by the latticeshade routine. A nullpath
frame and picture sizing bug was fixed. LaTeX diagnostics were improved. A
facility that does not rely on garbage collection finalizers was
implemented for closing open files at the end of each asy process.

Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy
About: Atanks is a multi-platform Scorched Earth clone similar to the
Worms series of games. Annihilate the other tanks to earn money, then
spend it on bigger and better shields and weapons to wipe out the
opposition. It features a wide array of weapons, AI players, destructible
landscape, weather, parachutes, teleports and a wide range of other
features.
Changes: This release mostly focuses on fixing things behind the scenes.
The config file has been re-done. The game now requires less CPU usage
(about 1/3 of before). A new wall type has been added. Backward
compatibilty has been maintained, so updating from previous versions
should be painless.

interface APIs. To the developer, it offers complete abstraction of any
Web-specific implementation details. Under the hood, the library uses the
latest techniques (AJAX) to handle user events and update the Web page.
Changes: Build improvements and bugfixes were done. The Xerces-C++
dependency was dropped in favor of Mini XML. SSL support is now a
compile-time option for the built-in wthttpd. A WViewWidget was added for
simple MVC widgets that do not need server-side state. As a result, Wt is
more suitable for use in resource-constrained, embedded platforms.

Information Management
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: wxRemind is a wxPython-based front/back-end for Remind, a powerful
calendar and alarm application, and for yeaGTD, a text based application
for 'getting things done'. The display features a calendar and daily event
list suitable for visualizing your schedule at a glance, together with a
flexible display of your GTD todo list. Dates and associated events can be
quickly selected either with the mouse or cursor keys, and dates in the
calendar are color coded to reflect the total duration of scheduled
events. wxRemind integrates with an external editor of your choice to make
editing of reminder and GTD files more efficient, provides hotkeys to
quickly access the most commonly used options, and allows popup, sound,
and/or spoken alarms.
Changes: This release adds support for yeaGTD project reports, and updates
the included yeaGTD to 0.7.9.
