About: R is a language and environment for statistical computing and
graphics. It is similar to S, which was developed at Bell Laboratories by
John Chambers et al. It provides a wide variety of statistical and
graphical techniques (linear and nonlinear modelling, statistical tests,
time series analysis, classification, clustering, etc.). R is designed as
a true computer language with control-flow constructions for iteration and
alternation, and it allows users to add additional functionality by
defining new functions. For computationally intensive tasks, Fortran and C
code can be linked and called at run time.
Changes: This is a maintenance release, and fixes a number of mostly minor
bugs and platform issues.

[032] - rsyslog 1.14.0 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Thu, Jun 28th 2007 04:48
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.
Changes: Support for IPv6 has been added and some minor cleanups plus a
fix for the Red Hat init script were applied. Currently, IPv6 is
implemented for UDP only, TCP will follow shortly. IPv6 support should be
considered experimental. It is not recommended that this release be used
in production.

[033] - S3OSCache 1.0
by Serge Knystautas (http://freshmeat.net/users/sergek/)
Thu, Jun 28th 2007 07:07
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: S3OSCache is an OSCache store implementation that uses Amazon's S3
Web service to store the cached data. What this means is that if you are
currently using oscache and storing cached objects on disk or in memory,
you could easily configure this add-on to oscache and start storing your
cached objects on S3.

[034] - SMS Server Tools 2.2.18
by Stefan Frings (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfrings/)
Thu, Jun 28th 2007 13:39
Communications
About: The SMS Server Tools send and receive short messages through GSM
modems or mobile phones. The user can send short messages by simply
storing text files into a special spool directory. The program monitors
this directory and sends new files automatically. It also stores received
short messages into another directory as text files. The program can run
other external programs or scripts after events like reception of a new
message, successful sending, and when the program detects a problem. These
programs can inspect the related text files and perform automatic actions.
Changes: String buffer termination errors have been fixed. This release
reduces the risk of abnormal program termination in case of bad entries in
the config file and bad modem answers. It also reduces the risk of missing
the last digit in received phone numbers.

[035] - SRESI 0.19.8 (Development)
by Priscus (http://freshmeat.net/users/priscus/)
Thu, Jun 28th 2007 07:28
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.
Changes: Tree generation in a cloud added the cloud tags to the tree root,
which messed with subsequent cloud or portal displays. Hints can now be
defined for the tree root. Default root hints are built from any imported
tree format, be it Mozilla, Opera, or XBEL. The Windows version is back.
Portal exports now work under Windows too.

About: SubEthaSMTP is an easy to understand Java library that provides a
receptive SMTP server component. By plugging this component into your Java
application, you can easily receive SMTP mail using a simple abstract Java
interface. Also included is a small sub-project called Wiser, an easy to
use incoming mail testing framework.
Changes: This release fixes a couple of bugs with SMTP RFC handling.

[037] - system-config-printer 0.7.69
by Tim Waugh (http://freshmeat.net/users/tmw/)
Thu, Jun 28th 2007 10:28
Printing
About: system-config-printer configures a CUPS server. It uses the CUPS
API (bound to Python with pycups) to do this. The communication with the
server is performed using IPP. As a result, it is equally able to
configure a remote CUPS server as a local one.
Changes: When selecting a driver, translated PPDs not in the user's own
language are no longer displayed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Office/Business
About: WebGUI is a content management framework built to allow average
business users to build and maintain complex Web sites. It is modular,
pluggable, and platform independent. It was designed to allow the people
who create the content to manage it online, rather than content management
taking up the time of busy IT staff. WebGUI comes with a full host of
features including shopping cart, subscriptions, forums, photo galleries,
FAQs, link lists, blogs, SQL reports, a Web services interface, and a very
configurable user privilege and profiling system.
Changes: A dozen or so small bugfixes.

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
About: WengoPhone is a multi-platform VOIP client sponsored and developed
by WENGO and MBDSYS. The GUI part is Qt-based, and the Video-over-IP
engine is based on the eXosip, oSIP, oRTP, and ffmpeg projects. The eXosip
module is extended by a phApi module, which implements a high-level,
easy-to-use call control API. WengoPhone supports PC-to-PC voice, video,
and chat. One can use a standard SIP service provider such as Wengo to be
assigned an incoming number, make calls to PSTN/cell phones, get voice
mail, and more.
Changes: Important bugfixes include a number of crashes when deleting IM
contacts and when switching profiles. Deadlocks during connection and a
problem with the Windows installer were also fixed, and V4L support was
improved. A number of infrastructural changes include the complete removal
of scons support and moving build documentation from the wiki into the
source tree, and updates to 13 translations.

[042] - xterm patch #227
by T.E.Dickey (http://freshmeat.net/users/tedickey/)
Thu, Jun 28th 2007 17:54
Desktop Environment
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals
About: The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X
Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible
terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the
underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for
example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will
use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is
resized.
Changes: This release revises the XF86Paste/SunPaste support from patch
#226 to work with very old X servers.

[043] - Yada 0.10.0
by dev/IT (http://freshmeat.net/users/devit/)
Thu, Jun 28th 2007 10:54
Database :: API
About: Yada is a C library that abstracts SQL databases, aiming at
allowing transparent use of multiple database types. To accomplish this,
it uses a compitability layer of functions to bind input and output
variables, prepare statements, and retrieve data. Its functionality and
concept are somewhat like Perl's DBI, but hopefully somewhat improved.
Changes: This release adds many enhancements, including PostgreSQL native
support. It fixes a handful of bugs, and restructures init for better
error handling.
