[001] - arxtools 0.4.8 (Development)
by Hagen Möbius (http://freshmeat.net/users/PunyTroll/)
Sun, Jul 1st 2007 07:44
System :: Archiving :: Compression
About: arxtools is a collection of tools to create, examine, and modify
ARX archives. It supports almost all the features of the Arxx API, hence
allowing external data referencing, merging, and relation sets.
Changes: arxadd was enhanced so that the newly added item can be inserted
into various relations of multiple other items by arxadd. This removes the
necessity to reload and rewrite the whole library with another arxmod call.
The --version parameter on all tools now writes the version only for easy
checking.

[002] - Asterisk-Java 0.3
by Stefan Reuter (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefanreuter/)
Sun, Jul 1st 2007 17:54
Communications :: Telephony
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Asterisk-Java provides a set of Java classes that allow you to
easily build Java applications that interact with an Asterisk PBX Server.
It supports the FastAGI protocol and the Manager API.
Changes: This release has full support for Asterisk 1.4 and the new Live
API (org.asteriskjava.live). The Live API takes care of the low-level
action and event handling of the Manager API, and offers an intuitive API
for Java developers. Asterisk-Java takes advantage of the features of Java
5.0, and therefore requires a Java Virtual Machine of at least version
1.5.0.

About: bbs100 is a BBS in the style of DOC and/or YAWC. DOC is a style
that remotely resembles Citadel. What's special about bbs100, is that it's
a single process daemon that handles all connections at once, while
consuming very low cpu resources ( < 1%). It can handle over a thousand
simultaneous users. It is highly customizable, is easy to setup, and has
many configurable features. bbs100 is almost a must-have for people that
want to run a DOC-style BBS.
Changes: This release fixes a couple of bugs that could crash the program.
There is also a new Help menu.

[006] - Daikon 4.3.0
by Jeff Perkins (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhpnez/)
Sun, Jul 1st 2007 23:44
Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.
Changes: A new tool (DynComp) calculates variable comparability
information for Java programs. Kvasir has been enhanced to support x86-64
Linux platforms.

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for rapidly developing search
engines on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It's
scalable, easy to create, and fast to search. It features a built-in
database crawler following user-defined SQL, incremental indexing,
user-controllable result ranking, the ability to return results with
highlights (like Google), and categorized result counts (like Amazon). It
can easily integrate with a non-Java environment with XML/JSON. There is a
UI for all operations, so no Java coding is necessary.
Changes: A UI was added for finding frequent words for smaller index
sizes. Lucene query syntax was added and can be used together with the
DBSight syntax. jTDS was upgraded to version 1.2. JDBC parameters were
added to support SQL Server clusters.

[014] - ExactImage 0.3.8
by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
Sun, Jul 1st 2007 02:54
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: php Free Chat is a simple, fast, and customizable chat server that
uses the filesystem for message and nickname storage. It uses AJAX to
smoothly refresh and display the chat zone and the nickname zone. It
supports customized CSS stylesheets and a plugin system that allows you to
write your own storage routines.
Changes: A major refactoring in AJAX request handling has been done: pfc
now only uses the prototype library, and no longer uses xajax, so the chat
loading is a bit faster. Many bugs have been fixed, including recurrent
timeouts on IE6, and an issue where sometimes the cursor was invisible at
the FF login prompt. Some translations were updated.

[038] - Restlet 1.0.2
by Jerome (http://freshmeat.net/users/jlouvel/)
Sun, Jul 1st 2007 07:30
Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Restlet is a lightweight REST framework for Java. The project is
composed of two parts, the Restlet API (alternative to Servlet API) and a
reference implementation (Noelios Restlet Engine). It supports all REST
concepts (resource, representation, data, connector, components, etc.) and
is suitable for both client and server REST applications. The server
connectors provided are HTTP(S), AJP (via Mortbay's Jetty or an adapter
Servlet) and the client connectors are HTTP(S), File, JDBC, and SMTP(S).
Changes: Fourteen bugs were fixed since the 1.0.1 release. Jetty was
updated to version 6.1.4. The content negotiation algorithm was updated in
order to give precedence to the default language set by the server over the
"All languages" preference.

[039] - rsyslog 1.14.1 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Sun, Jul 1st 2007 02:52
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.
Changes: IPv6 is now also supported for TCP connections. This completes
support for IPv6. There are still some small bugs pending, which can be
seen in the bug tracker. Users of 1.14.0 are strongly advised to upgrade.
All others should do so only if they require IPv6.

[042] - SlackRoll v10
by rg3 (http://freshmeat.net/users/rg3/)
Sun, Jul 1st 2007 07:48
System :: Software Distribution
System :: Systems Administration
About: SlackRoll is a package or upgrade manager for Slackware Linux. It
is designed to work with official mirrors in systems mainly composed of
official packages with a few unofficial packages. It lets you
automatically upgrade or install packages, and displays which packages
have been added or removed from the Slackware tree.
Changes: Among other minor changes and internal cleanups, this release
fixes a very low risk vulnerability. In previous versions, it was still
possible for a malicious package to end up in the package cache if a
series of unfortunate events happened. This release downloads the package
and its signature to a temporary directory, and only moves the package to
the package cache once it has been validated.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
System :: Networking
About: SPServer is a high concurrency C++ server framework library that
implements the Half-Sync/Half-Async and the Leader/Follower patterns. It's
based on libevent in order to utilize the best I/O loop on any platform. It
can simplify TCP server construction and is a hybrid system between
threaded and event-driven, exploits exploiting advantages of both models.
It exposes a threaded programming style to programmers, while
simultaneously using an event-driven style to process network connections.
An embedded HTTP server framework, sphttp, is included. It is useful for
adding Web-based administration or statistics to any C++ program or as the
server framework of XML-RPC or JSON-RPC.
Changes: A Leader/Follower thread pool server implementation was added.

Sun, Jul 1st 2007 14:44
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
About: Tntnet is a Web application server for generating Web applications
in C++. HTML pages with some additional tags for inclusion of C++ code are
compiled into shared libraries and served from tntnet. It resembles PHP,
JSP, or Mason, but the programming language used is C++, and the pages are
compiled into native code before serving. Tntnet is fully multithreaded and
supports HTTP keep-alive for best performance. Its dynamic pages are faster
than static pages with other Web servers, while creating Web applications
is simple.
Changes: This version adds support for HTTP basic authentication. A new
tag <%doc> for block comments in templates is added. This release uses the
standard locale instead of failing to run if the locale passed in LANG is
invalid. Sessions are now valid in all URLs instead of being URL-specific.
This was actually a bug, because it was intended initially to be the way it
is now.

Sun, Jul 1st 2007 17:58
System :: Systems Administration
About: Virtualmin is a Webmin module that simplifies the process of
setting up and managing virtual servers. It can create Apache virtual
hosts, BIND DNS domains, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, and set up
Sendmail or Postfix to accept email for a domain. It can also manage
mailboxes and mail aliases within a domain.
Changes: The Change Domain Name page can be used to modify the
administrative username and home directory for a virtual server. An option
has been added to the DNS section of server templates for specifying the
hostname to use in the primary NS record for new DNS domains. Password
changes to mail/FTP users from the Users and Groups modules now correctly
update all the various passwords maintained by Virtualmin. The status of
the Dovecot IMAP/POP3 server has been added to the server status page. A
Module Config option has been added to have MySQL users and permissions
added to multiple servers.

Sun, Jul 1st 2007 07:44
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
About: There are many photo-gallery programs available. Zoph is different,
as it concentrates on the management of large collection of photos instead
of just showing them on the Web. It can store a lot of information about
your photos, including the regular EXIF info, photographer, location,
title, description, rating, and the people in the photo. Photos can appear
in multiple albums and categories. Additional features include search,
slideshows, lightboxes, email, access privileges, and multiple languages.
Changes: Compared to 0.7pre2, a couple of small, but annoying bugs have
been solved, most in the autocomplete keyboard handling. Some issues with
using the "autothumbnail" feature when not logged in as an admin user were
resolved. Compared to 0.6, lots of bugs have been solved and a couple of
new features have been added. Most notable are a JavaScript based
autocompletion function on the selector boxes for albums, categories,
places, and people. There are also new views for albums, categories,
places, and people, including a thumbnail view, giving you a preview of
what's in that folder.
