[001] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.8.8i
  by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
  Tue, Jul 3rd 2007 11:27

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ and DMZ-2-LAN
forwarding, protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, and extensive user
definable logging with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It has
plugin support to add extra features (like SSH Brute Force protection and
(Racoon) IPSEC support). It is easy to configure and highly customizable.
A filter script that makes your firewall log more readable is also
included.

Changes: This release fixes a nasty bug in the NAT forwarding rules that
caused using subnet-source-restrictions not to work. It adds an extra rule
to the DHCP server section to allow packets from DHCP servers in the same
segment. There are several plugin updates. A Racoon IPSEC VPN plugin and a
transparent DNAT plugin have been added.

[003] - auth2db 0.2.2
  by Ezequiel Vera (http://freshmeat.net/users/zdark/)
  Tue, Jul 3rd 2007 06:39

About: auth2db parses auth.log files and inserts details about logins into
a MySQL database. It allows you to display in the shell or in a Web
front-end the date and time, IP, username, and service (ssh, smb, login,
su, gdm, etc.) for each login.

Changes: The action_config table has been added. Configuration actions
(for color and alias) have been added to the front-end. A remote host can
be controlled by using the syslogd -r option. New filters to check Windows
login have been added. The install process was fixed when creating the
/var/www/auth2db directory.

[004] - Blitz templates 0.4.19
  by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
  Tue, Jul 3rd 2007 14:40

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Blitz templates is a fast template engine written in C and compiled
as a PHP module. It started as a php_templates replacement, but developed
into much more. It is based on extensible template controllers (custom
view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates (simple logic in HTML).
Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest template engines for PHP,
even though it's not trivial and makes Web application closer to the MVC2
architecture model. It was designed for big Internet projects with a lot
of complex presentation logic.

Changes: New API methods getIterations/get_iterations and
getGlobals/get_globals were added to get assigned template variables. The
method alias setGlobals/set_globals for setGlobal/set_global was added to
improve naming style (setGlobal/set_global still works). A bug in
getStruct was fixed: nodes with errors are not returned. Alternative tags
"<!--" and "-->" were extended by an additional whitespace: new values are
"<!-- " and " -->" (please convert your templates if you were using
something like "<!--BEGIN context-->").

[005] - Blossoc 1.2.0
  by Thomas Mailund (http://freshmeat.net/users/mailund_birc/)
  Tue, Jul 3rd 2007 07:57

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.

About: Blossoc is a linkage disequilibrium association mapping tool that
attempts to build (perfect) genealogies for each site in the input, score
these according to non-random clustering of affected individuals, and
judge high-scoring areas as likely candidates for containing disease
affecting variation. Building the local genealogy trees is based on a
number of heuristics that are not guaranteed to build true trees, but have
the advantage over more sophisticated methods of being extremely fast.
Blossoc can therefore handle much larger data sets than more sophisticated
tools, but at the cost of sacrificing some accuracy.

Changes: This version adds support for unphased genotype data through a
perfect-phylogeny haplotyping algorithm. If enabled, the release will also
support the SNPfile binary format.

[006] - Boehm-Demers-Weiser Conservative Garbage Collector 7.0 (Stable)
  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Tue, Jul 3rd 2007 07:00

Software Development :: Bug Tracking
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Boehm-Demers-Weiser conservative garbage collector can be used
as a garbage collecting replacement for C malloc or C++ new. It is also
used by a number of programming language implementations that use C as
intermediate code. Alternatively, it may be used as a leak detector for C
or C++ programs. A slightly older version of the garbage collector is also
included as part of the GNU compiler (gcc) distribution.

Changes: The C code now requires at least C89. The live data in the heap
is now counted, helping to make the heap expansion heuristic more robust.
Thread local allocation support was enhanced. Some obsolete platform
support such as old-style Solaris threads was removed. Some new platform
support was added. Various bugs were fixed.

About: PHP Advanced Graph and Chart Collection provide a very easy way to
embed dynamically-generated graphs and charts into PHP applications and
HTML Web pages. The Graphing components provide various solutions for the
incorporation of graphs and charts into Web/intranet pages and
applications. Versatile components provide the ability for Web authors and
developers to easily build and publish dynamic and interactive graphs and
charts.

Changes: Many new graphing functions, including bar graphs, pie charts,
line and area graphs, bubble charts, X-Y plots, cylinder graphs, and
combination bar and line graphs. The bubble chart function has been
upgraded with a 3D option that adds a rather nice effect to the bubble
display. All graph styles have been upgraded with the ability to recognise
relative URL addressing for data and configuration file paths. It is now
possible to supply a codebase parameter to the graph URL, which will then
be applied to the URLs provided for the the data and configuration
information.

[042] - rsyslog 1.14.2 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Tue, Jul 3rd 2007 06:57

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: This version fixes all known nits with IPv6. Default syslog port
lookup has been re-established. Documentation was added. Debugging
messages have been enhanced somewhat. Full compatibility with the 1.13.x
series has been restored. This completes the initial IPv6 support. This is

[046] - Tablix 0.3.5
  by Tomaz Solc (http://freshmeat.net/users/Avian/)
  Tue, Jul 3rd 2007 07:50

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Tablix is a powerful free software kernel for solving general
timetabling problems. It uses a coarse-grained parallel genetic algorithm
in combination with other techniques to construct sensible timetables from
XML formatted problem descriptions. Tablix can run on a single host as well
as on a heterogeneous parallel virtual machine using PVM3. The default
installation will export finished timetables into XHTML 1.1 format ready
for publishing on the Internet, or into a "comma separated values" format
(CSV) that is suitable for import into a spreadsheet application and
further processing. The kernel supports a very wide range of timetabling
problems, from high school timetabling to barge scheduling. Several
timetable constraints are already implemented in the default installation.
Because of the kernel's modular design, it is easy to add custom timetable
constraints and/or modify existing ones.

Changes: A segmentation fault in the XML parser was fixed. Erroneous
messages about failed assertions were fixed. A build error on GCC 4.1 was
fixed. Four new fitness modules were added to the distribution.

small footprint installations (e.g. on floppy disk) or quick editing
sessions.

Changes: This release fixes a bug where some interactive functions were
not available entered as commands. Allegro and EPOC support were removed,
as they were unused. Small improvements were made to the documentation.
