[001] - actkbd 0.2.8
  by Theodoros V. Kalamatianos (http://freshmeat.net/users/nyb/)
  Fri, Jul 6th 2007 03:52

System
Utilities

About: actkbd is a simple daemon that binds commands to keyboard events
(e.g. multimedia keys). It recognises key combinations and can handle
press, repeat, and release events. Currently it only supports the Linux
2.6 event interface, but the platform-specific code is well contained and
support for additional platforms can be added with minimal or no changes
to the rest of the code.

Changes: udev is now the recommended way to launch actkbd and a sample
rule file is provided, allowing for multiple keyboards. The documentation
was updated and some minor issues were fixed.

Home Automation
System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Archive2iso takes a directory tree and randomizes the files in the
tree to stripe the files across several ISO files that can be archived or
burned off to a CD. The ISO files are generated by calling the CDiso.pm
module. It reads an array generated by an INCLUDE LIST so the ISO file can
be made with mkisofs. The intended use is to stripe files across multiple
CD/DVD randomly so if one disc is damaged all the files that were in the
same directory will not be lost since files are spread across multiple
disks. The actual files themselves are not split; all files remain in
their original state.

About: JSBlend is a cross-platform, Web-based file comparison and merge
tool written mostly in Javascript. It can display differences in two files
and allow the user to selectively merge them by editing one of the files.
While JSBlend is a general purpose diff/merge tool, it is especially
suitable for managing conflicts in configuration files on servers after an
update. Many server machines do not have any GUI framework installed, and
are often run in headless mode on remote sites. Using desktop-based GUI
tools for merging the conflicts is not always possible. JSBlend can be a
very useful tool when either used standalone or embedded inside an
existing administration console.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a set of PHP scripts that
interact with MySQL or MSSQL to develop surveys, publish surveys, and
collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created, data can be
inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen which presents
each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data entry screen. It
includes the capacity to generate individualized "tokens", so that
invitations can be issued to participants. It also has the capacity to set
conditions on whether questions will display (branching), numerous question
types, and a basic statistics function.

should solve most email problems. The missing scissors icon on ranking
questions was fixed. There are new Russian and Finnish and updated Greek
language files. You can now use a variable named {TOKENID} somewhere in
your URL in survey settings. It will be replaced with the Token ID.

Communications
Desktop Environment
Software Development

About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server and desktop virtualization
system based on the X11 protocol. NX is an order of magnitude faster than
VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec. In addition,
NX translates and embeds the MS Windows Terminal Server and VNC protocols
into X/NX, enabling users to compress and accelerate remote Windows and
VNC sessions. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and X11proxying
agents implementing efficient compression and optimized transport of X11,
SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio and video over the
Internet.

Changes: The new packages provide fixes for a number of problems. Among
them, the client fails to notify the user when the IPP backend doesn't
have proper permissions to allow for printing, the NX Client falls back to
display 640x480 instead of Available Area when requesting a fullscreen
session on Mac OS X, NX icons are placed in a wrong location in the KDE
menu on Ubuntu 7.04, and creating an NX Client shortcut on the desktop may
fail on most recent Linux versions.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
System :: Archiving

About: oSync provides a simple and secure way to synchronize bookmarks
between computers. oSync can also backup your bookmarks or publish them as
HTML and clean up bloated bookmark files. The synchronization can be
completely automated and is aimed to be as transparent as possible for the
user.

Changes: A critical network error in sync_windowed was fixed. Setup in the
Windows-installer version no longer cliams that an error occurred when it
is finished. Log-files are no longer stored, but errors are printed on
screen. The program now confirms that syncing went well in sync_windowed
(with new fancy graphics). Some syncing (downloading from server) is now
prevented when Opera runs. The bookmark analysis before syncing was made 3
times faster. A similar optimization was made for notes analysis (although
not as much as for bookmarks).

Scientific/Engineering

About: Seismic Toolkit is a tool for processing and displaying seismic
signal data in a graphical interface. It reads seismic signals in SAC
format, and provides a variety of signal processing, such as filtering,
spectral analysis, polarisation analysis, time-frequency representation,
Hilbert transform, and singular value decomposition. Some utilities are
included for useful seismological applications, like computation of
Seismic Moment Mo, Mantle magnitude Mm and Moment magnitude Mw, MTPA
spectral analysis, plotting focal mechanisms, computation (and plotting)
of instrumental response from poles and zeros, and some usefull GMT
(Generic Mapping Tool) scripts for plotting signals, responses, and
time-frequency in Postscript files for high quality prints.

[051] - Spike PHPCoverage 0.8
  by Nimish (http://freshmeat.net/users/pnimish/)
  Fri, Jul 6th 2007 17:52

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: Spike PHPCoverage is a tool for measuring and reporting code
coverage provided by the test suite of a PHP application. It can
instrument and record the line coverage information for any PHP script at
runtime. It also provides an extensible reporting mechanism with a
standard HTML report implemented out of the box. The default report
displays the summary information about the code coverage for an
application and also shows the detailed information about a file
including which lines were actually executed and with what frequency. It
is possible to specify the directories and files that should be included
and/or excluded from a coverage measurement.

Changes: This release adds the ability to combine several remote
recordings into a single coverage report. This feature will make it easier
for anyone to run a multiple set of tests on a PHP Web site and combine the
recordings into a single report. The remote code coverage sample has been
updated with a sample use case. A stripped down version of the XML_Parser
PEAR module is included along with the source. xdebug binaries are
included along with the PHPCoverage distribution. PHPCoverage installation
is now much simpler. Several bugs have been fixed, especially in the report
generation area.

About: ucview is a video image capture application that uses the unicap
toolkit. It provides a simple way to parametrize the video device, can
capture still images from the video stream, or record the stream as an
MPEG file. By using unicap, it can access many different video capture
devices like webcams, video grabber boards, IEEE-1394 (FireWire) cameras,
and others.

Changes: This version has better plugin support. The default video capture
device is stored and restored on startup. Several bugs were fixed.

About: Userful Desktop Multiplier is a virtualized X server that turns one
computer into ten "workstations" by using extra video cards, keyboards, and
monitors. This approach offers significantly higher performance and lower
hardware costs than Thin Client or LTSP. It installs on most popular Linux
distributions (Red Hat, Novell/SuSE, Fedora, Mandriva, Xandros, Linspire,
Ubuntu, etc.). It supports USB touch screens (Elotouch, Microtouch),
card-swipes, barcode scanners, as well as all virtually all video cards
supported by X. It features easy setup and graphical configuration.

Changes: The Userful Command Tool interface was added for all Desktop
Multiplier related commands. Support for NVIDIA and Matrox graphics cards
was added. Static configuration support for input devices was added. More
information is displayed during the trial nagging message. Blacklist and
Whitelist for video cards was added. A Userful command option was added to
enable or disable Ctrl-Alt-Break functionality. More Linux distributions
are supported. Audio support with Pulseaudio was improved.

[065] - ZK 2.4.1

  Fri, Jul 6th 2007 10:26

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: ZK is an Ajax Java Web framework that enables rich UIs for Web
applications with little programming. With event-driven components and an
XUL-based markup language, developing is as simple as programming desktops
and authoring HTML. Scripting languages include but are not limited to
Java, JavaScript, Ruby, and Groovy.

Changes: Transmission time over slow Internet connections is improved
dramatically due to the use of gzip compression and the removal of unused
codes from prototype and script.aculo.us. Tree controls can now display
items in multiple pages, which improves the performance of huge trees
dramatically. An option not to disable HTML tags behind the modal window
is designed to speed up the opening of a modal window on a sophisticated
page. The generation of UUID of components, pages, and desktops is
customizable. It is designed to work with the record-and-replay testing
tools.
