Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: CrissCross is a small cross-platform C++ library for console and
file I/O, fast data structures, CPU identification (CPUID), and sockets
(TCP and UDP). The main goal is to provide the ability to write a program
using identical calls on the major platforms (Windows, Linux, FreeBSD,
OpenBSD, NetBSD, and Mac OS X) without needing to rewrite code. CPUID is
only currently supported on Linux and Windows running on x86 processors.
There is also theoretical support for IA-64 and x64 processors in 64-bit
mode, but only 32-bit mode has been tested.

Changes: CrissCross::Data::Compare now can compare C-style strings. An x64
target was added for Visual Studio 2005 projects. The
crisscross/crisscross.h file was added, which basically includes every
common CrissCross header. RedBlackTree now works with char* string keys.
The DStack::peek() function was added. XCrashReports support was added for
release builds. A few more cache descriptors were added to CPUID (Core 2
related ones). FastestSort and MemoryEfficientSort aliases were added by
request.

About: DynaStop is a utility to examine IPv4 based addresses for Exim and
procmail for the purpose of filtering based upon patterns defined by the
administrator. This can be a pivotal factor in email filtering and server
load management, since dynamic IP addresses are typically used for
dial-up, DHCP, and DSL accounts. All of which have a designated mail
exchange server through which all outbound mail flows as defined with
many, if not most, large Internet service providers.

Changes: The DynaWall server is now fully supportive of shared memory by
using semaphores for locks. The need for /tmp or tmpfs for the lock file
has been removed, thus doubling the speed of the DynaStop server. More
code clean up has been done. Example configuration files have been
updated.

[013] - Ghostscript 8.60
  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Thu, Aug 2nd 2007 05:36

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Ghostscript is a processor for PostScript and PDF files. It can
rasterize these files to a wide variety of printers, devices for screen
preview, and image file formats. Since applications tend to prepare pages
for printing in a high-level format such as PostScript, most Unix users
with low-level bitmap printers, such as inkjets, use GhostScript as part
of the printing process. In addition, Ghostscript is capable of converting
PostScript files, functionality comparable to Adobe Acrobat Distiller, but
on the command line. In addition, Ghostscript is used for file import and
viewing by a great many other applications, including xv, ImageMagick,
gimp, and xdvi. Several GUI wrappers for viewing PostScript and PDF files
exist, including GSview, ghostview, gv, ggv, and kghostview. This is far
from a comprehensive list.

Changes: This release finalizes the merge with ESP Ghostscript, adding
support for CUPS raster printer drivers. It also contains IJS and
OpenPrinting Vector interfaces for driver plug-ins, all built-in printer
drivers listed in the OpenPrinting database, X display drivers in a
separate shared library, and many other improvements and bugfixes. The
build process is now autotools-based. Temporarily, the GCC build defaults
to the 'bbox' device instead of the 'x11' device. The GPL is also now
applicable to the newest Ghostscript version, removing any functional
differences between AFPL and GPL Ghostscript.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: Greenstone is a complete digital library creation, management, and
distribution package for Unix, Windows, and Mac OS X. Users create
collections by gathering a set of input documents, specifying a
configuration file, and running the build script. It provides full-text
and fielded searching, browsable indexes, customised formatting, metadata
extraction (acronyms, languages, etc), a Z39.50 client, and many other
features. It supports many input formats, the interface is configurable
and multi-lingual, and collections can be distributed on the Web or on
CD-ROM.

Changes: This release fixed authentication bugs on Windows and bugs in the
remote GLI. Interface improvements were made in GLI. New 'NoText' metadata
can be used to suppress the dummy text. The remote GLI now works on IIS 6.
Open on the File menu is now disabled while a collection is loading to
prevent exceptions. You can now double click an index to bring up the
'Edit Index' window. Catalan and Vietnamese GLI interfaces were added.
There were also other improvements and bugfixes.

About: GUPnP is an object-oriented open source framework for creating UPnP
devices and control points, written in C using GObject and libsoup. The
GUPnP API is intended to be easy to use, efficient, and flexible. The
GUPnP framework consists of two libraries. GSSDP implements resource
discovery and announcement over SSDP, and GUPnP implements the UPnP
specification: resource announcement and discovery, description, control,
event notification, and presentation (basic Web server functionality
through libsoup). GUPnP does not include helpers for construction or
control of specific standardized resources (e.g. MediaServer); this is
left for higher level libraries utilizing the GUPnP framework.

Changes: Embedded devices are now allowed to have their own UDNs. A
portability fix was included.

About: Libptytty is a small library that offers pseudo-TTY management in
an OS-independent way. It was created out of frustration over the many
differences of PTY/TTY handling in different operating systems for use
inside "rxvt-unicode". It also offers session database support (utmp and
optional wtmp/lastlog updates for login shells) and supports forking after
startup and dropping privileges in the calling process. It offers C++ and

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Scientific/Engineering

About: VisIt is an interactive parallel visualization and graphical
analysis tool for viewing scientific data. Users can quickly generate
visualizations from their data, animate them through time, manipulate
them, and save the resulting images for presentations. VisIt contains a
rich set of visualization features so that you can view your data in a
variety of ways. It can be used to visualize scalar and vector fields
defined on two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) structured and
unstructured meshes. It was designed to interactively handle very large
data set sizes in the terascale range, and works well down to small data
sets in the kilobyte range.

Changes: This release includes a number of bugfixes and new features.
VisIt can be built automatically with the build_visit script on many
Linux, Mac OS X, and AIX platforms. The build_visit script downloads
relevant VisIt and 3rd party source code, and configures and builds it all
using your C++ compiler. This release can tunnel its network connections
through SSH, has support for reading several new file formats, and has a
new Macros window that allows 1-click access to user-defined Python
functions. Support for user settings and file association on the Windows
platform has been improved.

while still allowing other users to use the system on other virtual
consoles. If desired, the entire console may be locked and virtual console
can be switching disabled.

Changes: Many improvements were made to security. As a result the commend
line can now no longer be called without locking the terminal. The source
code tree was cleaned up and all source code now resides in the "src"
subdirectory. A ChangeLog was added. The man pages, LICENSE, and README
files were updated. A SECURITY blurb was added. The -n,--new option was
