Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Processing
About: Flatworm is a framework for Java designed to eliminate the need to
hand-parse fixed length flat file data. It uses an XML file that describes
the format of an input source and breaks the input into beans of the user's
choosing. It can handle multiple record types in the same file (using
either line length or key field values to determine the correct type), and
can support multiple-line records. It can also parse multiple beans out of
a single record.
Changes: This release finally adds the ability to generate as well as
parse flat files, using the same XML description file. It includes
numerous code cleanups and improvements. It handles multiple-level bean
references (person.address.zipcodes, for example), more than one type of
padding character, and can now use streams for input and output.

Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and
can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP
(IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to
provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build
on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.
Changes: gnunet-fuse now has support for write operations. The latency and
performance of various database operations (for both MySQL and SQLite) was
improved. Fixed bugs include broken error handling in the UDP transport,
log rotation not deleting old log files, and crashes in gnunet-update and

[021] - GREYCstoration 2.5.2
by Rodrigo Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/skrull/)
Wed, Aug 1st 2007 17:06
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
About: GREYCstoration is an image regularization algorithm that processes
an image by locally removing small variations of pixel intensities while
preserving significant global image features, such as sharp edges and
corners. The most direct application is denoising. By extension, it can
also be used to inpaint or resize images. It is based on methods using
nonlinear multi-valued diffusion PDEs (Partial Differential Equations)
for image regularization. This kind of method generally outperforms
basic image filtering techniques (such as convolution, median filtering,
etc.) classically encountered in painting programs. Other image
denoising plugins are available, but are not free, and the corresponding
algorithms are kept secret.
Changes: This version is far less memory consuming than the previous one,
can deal with very big images, and has processing modes for
16-bit/components and 32-bit float-valued images, as well as multi-thread
support. It also provides a new plugin for the GIMP.

[054] - rsyslog 1.17.6 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Wed, Aug 1st 2007 05:26
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.
Changes: This release completes the effort to create an output module
interface. Lots of code has been changed during that effort. Newly added
is the ability to work with include files in the main configuration file.
A few debugging configuration commands have been added. There are also a
number of bugfixes. This release is a strongly recommended update for
users of 1.17.1 and above. There is no specific need for others, except if

[060] - Tarmail 0.7.8
by Tarmail (http://freshmeat.net/users/jole7665/)
Wed, Aug 1st 2007 17:07
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
About: Tarmail is an email server designed to be resistant to abuse. The
goal is to stop malicious senders before they have a chance to send their
message. If a sender exhibits aberrant behavior, it will be banned before
it sends its message, thus filtering out the most egregious abuse and
saving both CPU time and bandwidth. While tarmail can be a standalone
email server, most people will probably find it useful as a gateway to
their existing servers, a first line of defense against outside attacks.
Changes: Several major speedups in message body handling. This release
runs well on a 486. There are miscellaneous bugfixes in smtp.c.

automagically via a small bounce-management module with POP3 access. It
also has a small form-editor and statistics. You can import and export
your addresses in CSV format.
Changes: A lot of minor and major features have been added and updated.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: XSD is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. Provided with an XML
instance specification (XML Schema), it generates C++ classes that
represent the given vocabulary as well as parsing and serialization code.
You can then access the data stored in XML using types and functions that
semantically correspond to your application domain rather than dealing
with elements, attributes, and text in a direct representation of XML such
as DOM or SAX. XSD features support for in-memory and stream-oriented
processing models, comprehensive XML Schema feature coverage, easy
integration, and more.
Changes: For the in-memory C++/Tree mapping, generation of documentation
in the Doxygen format has been added, a new mapping for the XML Schema
wildcards (any and anyAttribute) has been implemented, support for binary
serialization in the XDR format has been added, and a new Getting Started
guide has been written. For the event-driven C++/Parser mapping, parser
implementations for all built-in XML Schema types have been added,
automatic generation of sample parser implementations as well as test
drivers has been implemented, and a new Getting Started guide has been
written.
