[001] - Aranea framework 1.0.10
by Taimo (http://freshmeat.net/users/taimo/)
Tue, Jul 31st 2007 02:57
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.
Changes: Some bugfixes and additions were made to BeanFormWidget.
TcdAndTldMerger is now present in aranea.jar and does not need to be
compiled separately.

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features
include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs,
and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW,
DVD+R/+RW, TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools
includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD
writers.
Changes: mkisofs now supports multi-extent files and thus supports files
larger than 4 GB (up to 8 TB) if -iso-level is 3 or more. New -hide-udf
and -hide-udf-list options allow you to selectively exclude files from the
UDF tree. All programs in cdrtools now print a copyright message and a year
number to make it easier to distinguish them from software forked from old
versions.

Database
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries
About: jPersist is an extremely powerful object-relational database
persistence API that manages to avoid the need for configuration and
annotation; mapping is automatic. It uses JDBC, and can work with any
relational database and any type of connection resource. It uses
information obtained from the database to handle mapping between the
database and Java objects, so mapping configuration is not needed, and
annotation is not needed. In fact, there is no configuration needed at
all.
Changes: catalogPattern and schemaPattern were moved along with
setMetaDataLimits to DatabaseManager and Database. catalogPattern and
schemaPattern were added to databases.xml. More metadata information was
added by loading ResultSetMetaData from a 1 = 0 query. SQL statements were
fixed by adding checks for isAutoGenerated, isReadOnly, and isSearchable. A
database handler was added so the last generated ID can be accessed.
Handling of setGeneratedKeys was moved to the outer block. Additional
metadata was added to support automatically generated keys in databases
without JDBC support for retrieving generated IDs.

Tue, Jul 31st 2007 10:45
Communications :: Telephony
Internet
System :: Diagnostics
About: MySpeed is a Java applet that measures connection speeds and
quality by timing actual data transfers between your server and end-users.
Connection tests are performed via HTTP or socket-to-socket modes. The
consistency of data transfer speeds is reported, a key measure of
connection quality. Detailed graphs of all data transferred during a speed
test are produced. VoIP editions test jitter and packet loss, reporting
VoIP quality and load capacity. A server-side database logs all speed test
results. The NOC and Support editions provide remote agent technologies to
identify remote connectivity problems.
Changes: This update improves the performance of the speed test applet.

Tue, Jul 31st 2007 14:43
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Hardware
About: parapin makes it easy to write C code under Linux that controls
individual pins on a PC parallel port. This kind of control is very useful
for electronics projects that use the PC's parallel port as a generic
digital I/O interface. Parapin goes to great lengths to insulate the
programmer from the somewhat complex parallel port programming interface
provided by the PC hardware, and comes as a user-space C library, or
linked as part of a Linux kernel module.
Changes: Fixes for bugs 1632001 and 1234134. Initial release of the new
language-binding infrastructure. First formal release of Pedro's Python
language binding and Neil's Java language binding. Small documentation
corrections and updates. Handles deprecation of MODULE_PARM with
conditional use of module_param(). Support for 2.4 kernels has been
deprecated, and deprecation warnings at build time have been added. The
documentation has been updated.

concepts (resource, representation, data, connector, components, etc.) and
is suitable for both client and server REST applications. The server
connectors provided are HTTP(S), AJP (via Mortbay's Jetty or an adapter
Servlet) and the client connectors are HTTP(S), File, JDBC, and SMTP(S).
Changes: Several HTTP bugs have been fixed. Changes to the ServerServlet
have been reverted back to the 1.0.2 behavior. Spring Javadocs have been

by daywalker (http://freshmeat.net/users/ddaayywallkkkeeeer/)
Tue, Jul 31st 2007 14:55
About: The idea behind Safe is that a user need not remember all her login
names and passwords. Instead, the user utilizes her cell phone to store
sensitive data in an encrypted way. Only one root password is required to
be remembered to get access to the data. The cell phone in question needs
to support J2ME applications. SafeDesktop is a cross-platform desktop
application that provides the same features as Safe, and has a mechanism
to keep the data synchronized between the two.
Changes: An IPv6 problem has been fixed (no exception will be thrown when
the machine uses IPv6). Exception handling has been improved (error
messages provide hints as to what went wrong). A minor bug has been fixed
(mainly how and when Alerts are shown).
