[015] - Cultivation 8
by Jason Rohrer (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcr13/)
Fri, Aug 10th 2007 15:13
Games/Entertainment
About: Cultivation explores the social interactions within a gardening
community. You lead one family of gardeners, starting with a single
individual, and wise choices can keep your genetic line from extinction.
While breeding plants, eating, and mating, your actions impact your
neighbors, and the social balance sways between conflict and compromise.
Cultivation features dynamic graphics that are procedurally-generated
using genetic representations and cross-breeding. In other words, game
objects are "grown" in real-time instead of being hand-painted or
hard-coded. Each plant and gardener in the game is unique in terms of both
its appearance and behavior.
Changes: Sound effects have been added for various in-game actions. Soul
trail images contained visibly-segmented curves at higher
resolutions---this has been fixed so that soul trails are smooth curves at
any resolution. A French translation has been added.

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: DeleGate is a multi-purpose application level gateway or proxy
server that mediates communication of various protocols, applying cache
and conversion for mediated data, controlling access from clients, and
routing toward servers. It translates protocols between clients and
servers, converting between IPv4 and IPv6, applying SSL (TLS) to arbitrary
protocols, merging several servers into a single server view with aliasing
and filtering. It can be used as a simple origin server for some protocols
(HTTP, FTP, and NNTP).
Changes: This release fixes frozen threads or broken data which could be
caused with thread based implementations of SSL and gzip filters.

[019] - DiffJ 1.1.2
by Jeff Pace (http://freshmeat.net/users/JEugenePace/)
Fri, Aug 10th 2007 15:07
Software Development
About: DiffJ is a commandline application that compares Java files based
on content, not whitespace, comments, or reordering of types, methods, or
fields. Its output is based on the Unix program diff, and it also has a
"brief" output format for a concise summary of what changed. It can work
on directories recursively, looking for matching filenames, like "diff -r
dir0 dir1". It is primarily for developers refactoring and reformatting
Java code, for which most difference tools tend to produce misleading
results regarding the type and extent of changes.
Changes: The difference comparator of functions (methods and constructors)
has been fixed, and the default Java source is now 1.5.

[020] - DUMA 2.5.5
by Hayati Ayguen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hayguen/)
Fri, Aug 10th 2007 23:28
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Testing
About: DUMA (Detect Unintended Memory Access) stops your program on the
exact instruction that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer.
GDB will then display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works
by using the virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of
each buffer: touch that, and your program stops. It can catch formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs. DUMA is a fork of Bruce Perens' Electric
Fence library.
Changes: This version added support for Solaris (Solaris 10 with the GNU
toolchain from the Companion CD). An internal redesign was undertaken:
several global static variables were collected into one structure and
several global non-static variables were combined in another structure,
each with prepended and appended protection space reducing risk of
overwriting.

[021] - EJBCA 3.4.5 (Development)
by Tomas Gustavsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/anatom/)
Fri, Aug 10th 2007 05:17
About: EJBCA is a fully functional Certificate Authority in Java using
J2EE technology. It builds on the J2EE platform to create a robust, high
performance, platform independent, flexible, and component-based CA to be
used standalone or integrated in any J2EE app. EJBCA comes with a flexible
and powerful Web-based admin GUI.
Changes: This release fixes KeyIdentifiers from ExternalCAs (if they were
not in a standard format, key identifiers would mismatch and the XKMS
register operation failed when the user's token was JKS or PEM) and fixes
parsing of some DERBitStrings in custom certificate extensions.

Database
Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
About: hamsterdb is an embedded database engine written in ANSI-C. It
includes B+Trees with variable length keys and records. It supports
in-memory databases and endian-independent files, database cursors, and
database environments. hamsterdb is very fast and highly configurable. It
compiles and runs on UNIX platforms, Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Windows
CE.
Changes: This release implements "record number" databases; these
databases behave like "auto-increment" tables in SQL. The keys of new
records are automatically assigned and incremented with each insert. Also,
a few minor bugs were fixed, and some optimizations took place; the
generated database files are much smaller now.

[030] - Internet DJ Console 0.7.0
by Stephen Fairchild (http://freshmeat.net/users/psoriasis/)
Fri, Aug 10th 2007 15:06
About: Internet DJ console is a graphical shoutcast/icecast client that
runs under GTK+ and the JACK audio connection kit. In short, it's an
Internet radio app for making a live radio show or podcast. Features
include two main media players with a crossfader, a jingle player,

by Mark Bednarczyk (http://freshmeat.net/users/Voytechs/)
Fri, Aug 10th 2007 00:05
Internet
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Monitoring
About: jNetPcap is a Java wrapper around the Libpcap network packet
capture library. The low-level API is exposed in Java, which allows
kernel buffer tuning, flags, and other features. All captured packet
buffers are wrapped, not copied, in efficient java.nio.ByteBuffer and
delivered to Java by reference. This allows not-in-memory copies of
packet data and very efficient and fast delivery of packets. The software
is released for various platforms with the appropriate native library
bundled.
Changes: This release now provides peering classes and methods for all of
libpcap and winpcap functions and structures. Advanced features such as
kernel level "capture and dump to file" are possible. Low level packet
transmissions in modes such as one at a time or bulk sendqueues are
supported. Kernel level statistic gathering for network traffic and
sampling modes are all supported now.

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries
About: jPersist is an extremely powerful object-relational database
persistence API that manages to avoid the need for configuration and
annotation; mapping is automatic. It uses JDBC, and can work with any
relational database and any type of connection resource. It uses
information obtained from the database to handle mapping between the
database and Java objects, so mapping configuration is not needed, and
annotation is not needed. In fact, there is no configuration needed at
all.
Changes: This is a major milestone release. The documentation was updated.
Usability enhancements and bugfixes were made. Support for several more
databases was added. jPersist now directly supports DB2, Oracle, MySQL,
HSQL, Derby, and PostgreSQL. It also directly supports all JDBC SQL data
types, including direct support for Blobs/Clobs, Streams, Readers, and
more. Exception handling support was improved.

[068] - THREDDS 3.16
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Fri, Aug 10th 2007 00:10
Scientific/Engineering
About: The THREDDS (Thematic Realtime Environmental Distributed Data
Services) project is developing middleware to bridge the gap between data
providers and data users. The goal is to simplify the discovery and use of
scientific data and to allow scientific publications and educational
materials to reference scientific data. The mission of THREDDS is for
students, educators and researchers to publish, contribute, find, and
interact with data relating to the Earth system in a convenient,
effective, and integrated fashion. Just as the World Wide Web and digital
library technologies have simplified the process of publishing and
accessing multimedia documents, THREDDS is building infrastructure needed
for publishing and accessing scientific data in a similarly convenient
fashion.

Communications
Internet
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Vortex Library is a BEEP Core protocol implementation, following
the standard defined in RFC 3080 and RFC 3081. It has a clean and
easy-to-use API that allows you to write new application protocols very
quickly. Vortex Library has been developed within the Af-Arch project, and
it is being used at the data transport layer. However, Vortex Library can
be used independently of Af-Arch.
Changes: A general update was done to make this release more usable on
Microsoft Windows, using Visual Studio compilers. Missing support was
added to enable getting error codes reported by peer at channel creation.
Now xml-rpc-gen is able to include user code into the IDL definition that
is placed at the resulting XML-RPC server.

[073] - WANPIPE 3.1.3 (Beta)
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Fri, Aug 10th 2007 12:00
Communications
System :: Networking
System :: Operating System
About: WANPIPE S-series is a family of intelligent multi-protocol WAN and
ADSL adapters that support data transfer rates up to 8Mbps. All WAN
protocols supported by WANPIPE are implemented in firmware and run on the
card. An advantage of an intelligent adapter is that it offloads the
system CPU and improves stability. By adding a Sangoma WAN/ADSL component
to the Linux kernel, one can create a powerful multi-T1/ADSL
router/firewall with proven reliability of Linux. Sangoma S-series cards
support an optional on board T1/E1 CSU/DSU that eliminates all external
components of a traditional routing solution: i.e. T1/E1 line can be
directly connected to the card. WANPIPE supports the following protocols,
ATM, ADSL, Frame Relay, PPP, MULTILINK PPP, CHDLC, X25(API), BitStreaming
(API), BiSync(API), and SDLC(API). Furthermore, WANPIPE supports custom
API development such as: Credit card verification, Voice-over IP,
Satellite Comm. All device drivers are part of the standard Linux Kernel
distribution.
Changes: Drivers can now work with 1, 2, 5, and 10ms chunk sizes. Numerous
major bugs have been fixed, including issues with echo cancellation, DTMF
synchronization, E1/CRC4 mode, and startup.
