[002] - Ampache 3.3.3.5
by Karl Vollmer (http://freshmeat.net/users/vollmerk/)
Mon, Aug 20th 2007 05:27
Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Ampache is a Web-based audio file manager. It allows you to view,
edit, and play your audio files via the Web. It has support for playlists,
artist and album views, album art, random play, playback via HTTP with
on-the-fly transcoding and downsampling, vote based playback, playback via
MPD and Icecast, an integrated Flash player, and per-user themes and song
play tracking. You can also link multiple Ampache servers together using
XML-RPC. Ampache supports gettext translations and has full translations
into many languages.
Changes: This release includes a few minor security fixes as well as a
completely revamped LastFM scrobbling method. Current users of the LastFM
plugin will have to upgrade their plugin by going to Admin -> Config ->
Modules. This release also corrects some playback issues with Foobar and
WMP. It also implements a stop-gap fix for Audacious 1.3.x's sloppy file
type detection.

[003] - ASCEND 0.9.5.113
by John Pye (http://freshmeat.net/users/jdpipe/)
Mon, Aug 20th 2007 05:24
Scientific/Engineering
About: ASCEND is an interactive environment for modeling, debugging, and
solving large systems of nonlinear algebraic or differential equations.
Oriented towards chemical engineering applications, it includes a large
Open Source thermodynamic properties database. The interactive design
allows users to inspect and solve very difficult nonlinear systems. It
includes plotting abilities and is scriptable using both Python and
Tcl/Tk.
Changes: The Windows installer was fixed to include developers' header
files. Help menu links in the PyGTK GUI on Linux were fixed. External
libraries/DLLs were renamed for clarity (lib{name}.so becomes
lib{name}_ascend.so). Some problems with ascend-config on Windows were
fixed.

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: Atop is an ASCII full-screen performance monitor that is capable of
reporting the activity of all processes (even if processes have finished
during the interval), daily logging of system and process activity for
long-term analysis, highlighting overloaded system resources by using
colors, etc. At regular intervals, it shows system-level activity related
to the CPU, memory, swap, disks, and network layers, and for every active
process it shows the CPU utilization in system and user mode, the virtual
and resident memory growth, priority, username, state, and exit code. By
default, only active system resources and processes are shown, and only
deviations since the previous interval.
Changes: A new command, atopsar, has been added to generate detailed
system activity reports (similar to the UNIX command sar) using the
compressed logfiles as written by atop. These reports can also be
generated for the current situation by specifying an interval for atopsar
on the command line.

[006] - Automated Testing Framework 0.1
by Julio M. Merino Vidal (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmmv/)
Mon, Aug 20th 2007 10:40
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing
About: ATF is a collection of libraries and utilities designed to ease
unattended application testing in the hands of developers and end users of
a specific piece of software. Tests can currently be written in C/C++ or
POSIX shell and, contrary to other testing frameworks, ATF tests are
installed into the system alongside any other application files. This
allows the end user to easily verify that the software behaves correctly
on her system. Furthermore, the results of the test suites can be
collected into nicely-formatted reports to simplify their visualization
and analysis.

Mon, Aug 20th 2007 07:18
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
About: Axmjpeg retrieves JPEG images from an MJPEG over HTTP stream that
conforms to the "Axis Video API, HTTP Interface Specification." Each
captured JPEG image may be written to a file or piped through to a shell
command for further processing. It also supports time-based retrieval,
where one image per specified interval is captured.
Changes: The image-fetching code was extended to support cameras that send
binary headers in the MJPEG HTTP stream. This version of axmjpeg is known
to support the "SQ IP Cam" and the "GP-280 Network IP Camera."

[009] - Blitz templates for PHP 0.5.3
by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
Mon, Aug 20th 2007 06:55
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Blitz templates is a fast PHP template engine written in C and
compiled as a PHP extension. It started as a php_templates replacement,
but developed into much more. It is based on extensible template
controllers (custom view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates
(simple logic in HTML). Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest
template engines for PHP, even though it's not trivial and makes Web
application closer to a smart MVC-like architecture model with maximal
separation of HTML from your code. It was designed for big high-load
Internet projects with a lot of complex presentation logic.
Changes: Variable path ($hash.key.whatever.else,
$obj.property.whatever.else) support was added. Each '.' points to a
hash->value or object->property relation, and both can be mixed in any way
in a varible path. This should work for any variable, global or local, in
any place, including user-defined and predefined method arguments. Thus,
setGlobals/set_globals may accept non-scalar key values to make things
like $config.param work, so the optional second parameter warn_non_scalar
became obsolete and was removed. Tests were updated to work correctly in
any environment.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Screen Capture
About: Browsershots is a system for automatically capturing screenshots of
Web pages in a variety of browsers and making these images available to the
public. Its goal is to make it easier to test the compatibility of Web
pages with a variety of browsers. The system distributes the work of
making screenshots among community members. Anyone can add URLs to the job
queue on a central server.
Changes: The server software has been rewritten using the Django
framework. It now has a translation system, a Web-based admin interface,
and screenshot factory configuration through the Web frontend. The factory
software supports more browsers, including Opera on Windows. The license
has been upgraded from GPLv2 to GPLv3.

[011] - Bugzero 5.0.1
by Samuel Chen (http://freshmeat.net/users/billhen/)
Mon, Aug 20th 2007 05:22
Communications :: Email
Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management
About: Bugzero is a Web-based bug tracking, defect tracking, issue
tracking, and change management system used in a distributed team
environment to track software bugs, hardware defects, test cases, or any
other issues. It can also be used equally well as a helpdesk customer
support, trouble ticketing, or email management system to collect and
manage customer feedbacks, incidents, requests, and issues. It is easy to
use, but still flexible and adaptive, and can be configured to fit to your
organization's unique business process and workflow.
Changes: The two issues when upgrading using Sybase, an error in "DROP
PRIMARY KEY", and the need to set "ddl in tran" to true for the tempdb
have been fixed. A JSP compile error in help.jsp with IBM WAS was fixed.
Email parsing for field name was improved. The users drop-down fields are
now filtered if the login user is in a controlled user group, and only
users in the same group are listed.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Systems Administration
About: ccollect does (pseudo) incremental full backups with different
exclude lists, using hard links and rsync.
Changes: This release adds a check for destination_base in
add_ccollect_source.sh. It adds support for -V and --version. It adds
ccollect-logwrapper.sh (and a man page). It now clones from the latest
existing backup, independent of the interval. This way different intervals
do not diverge. ccollect uses ls -c to determine latest backup.

About: The PreludeDB Library provides an abstraction layer upon the type
and format of the database used to store Prelude (IDMEF) events. Prelude
is a hybrid Intrusion Detection framework implementing an open
communication layer for use by any security application. The library
allows developers to use the Prelude IDMEF database easily and efficiently
without worrying about SQL, and independently of the type/format of the
database used.
Changes: Source and Target now use a 16-bit index (required for
CorrelationAlert with large number of sources/targets). CorrelationAlert
Alertident now use a 32-bit index (required to link large number of Alerts
together). Compilation on systems without ENOTSUP and type conversions
preventing PostgreSQL from using indexes are fixed. Separate
alert/heartbeat commands are used in preludedb-admin to have a coherent
implementation of the --offset and --count command line options. --offset
with the load command is fixed. The delete table is a decent size, which
should speed up the delete command. A preludedb-admin man page has been

[026] - massXpert mass spectrometry package 1.6.5
by filippo rusconi (http://freshmeat.net/users/FilippoRusconi/)
Mon, Aug 20th 2007 07:07
Education
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry
About: The massXpert software package is a mass spectrometry environment
for linear (bio-)polymers. It inherits all the innovations of GNU
polyxmass. It allows the detailed definition of new polymer chemistries in
the XpertDef module. These chemistry definitions are then used in the
desktop calculator-like mass calculator (XpertCalc) and in the
sophisticated polymer sequence editor and (bio-)chemical/mass
spectrometric simulations module (XpertEdit). Available simulations
include polymer and monomer chemical modifications, polymer sequence
cleavage, gas-phase fragmentation, m/z ratio calculations, and more.
Changes: A feature was added whereby, upon definition of a monomer
chemical modification, the user might tell which monomers are targets of
that modification. If the user tries to modify a monomer with a
modification that cannot be used for that, she is alerted. A mechanism
overriding the modification target limitations is available for maximum
flexibility. Bugs related to the chemical modification of polymer
sequences were fixed. The user manual was updated to document the new
features.

[029] - Nodezilla 0.4.29
by plop (http://freshmeat.net/users/smkaribou/)
Mon, Aug 20th 2007 13:43
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet
About: Nodezilla is a secured, distributed, and fault tolerant routing
system (or grid network) that supports distributed services such as file
sharing, chat, efficient video multicast streaming, and secured file
storage. It provides cache features where any server may create a local
replica of any data object. These local replicas provide faster access
and robustness to network partitions, and reduce network congestion by
localizing access traffic. To ensure data protection, redundancy and
cryptographic techniques are used.
Changes: Some crashes have been fixed, and there are routing fixes for
relayed nodes. Performance has been tuned. This release uses new features
of Vista for services rights restriction and buffer overflow prevention.

[030] - NuFW 2.2.4 (Stable 2.2)
by regit (http://freshmeat.net/users/regit/)
Mon, Aug 20th 2007 17:44
Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: NuFW is an authentication firewall suite: the gateway authorizes a
packet depending on which remote user has sent it. It can also set quality
of service on a per-user basis and log user activities into a SQL database.
Furthermore, it can use an external authentication source such as an LDAP
directory and be the key of a Single Sign On solution.
Changes: This release fixes a security issue related to time-based
filtering rules. A regression was leading packets not to be dropped when
their arrival time was out of period. It also features some improvements
and bugfixes.

pure but implicitly statically typed Python programs and generates
optimized C++ code. This means that in combination with a C++ compiler, it
allows for translation of pure Python programs into highly efficient
machine language. For a set of 16 non-trivial test programs, measurements
show a typical speedup of 2-40 over Psyco, about 12 on average, and 2-220
over CPython, about 45 on average. Shed Skin also outputs annotated source
code.
Changes: Support for __iadd__, __imul__, and such was added (but not for
__ipow__ and __imod__). The set implementation was optimized. A string
formatting problem was fixed (%% did not always work). Some bugs were
fixed in generating extension modules. A particular inheritance problem
was fixed.

send periodic reports. Additionally, uninteresting fields in the log lines
(such as PID numbers) can be masked with the standard regular expression
grouping operators ( ). This allows cleaner and more readable reports. All
reports are separated by hostname and all messages are condensed when
possible.
