by KeyMonkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/keymonkey/)
Wed, Aug 29th 2007 09:04
About: Andy's PHP Knowledgebase is a database-driven knowledge base
management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing by category, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.

[007] - deco archive file extractor 0.4.2
by P. Hartlich (http://freshmeat.net/users/phartlich/)
Wed, Aug 29th 2007 13:19
System :: Archiving
About: deco is a generic archive file extractor that has a consistent
command line interface ("deco 1.tar.bz2 2.zip 3.flac 4.rar 5.deb" will
just work) and consistent behavior (it never deletes archives after
extraction, extracts relative to the current working directory, and
extracts just verbosely enough, all unless explicitly requested
otherwise). It provides automatic handling of extractor gotchas by
creating an extraction directory if there is more than one file or
directory at the archive top level and by being able to fix strange
permissions. Dozens of archive file extensions are supported out of the
box, and adding support for others requires very little work.
Changes: Archives composed of multiple archive files are now deleted
correctly if the -u option is active. An ln error message (cosmetic) has
been fixed. There are minor portability improvements.

[009] - Dnsmasq 2.40
by Simon Kelley (http://freshmeat.net/users/simonkelley/)
Wed, Aug 29th 2007 13:22
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP/TFTP for network booting
of diskless machines.
Changes: This release includes fixes for minor problems that have arisen
since 2.39. Additional functionality includes a method to close and reopen
log files, the ability to use custom paths based on IP address in the TFTP
sever, and an easy way to differentiate between known and unknown hosts in
the DHCP configuration system.

System :: Filesystems
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities
About: Freedup uses filesystem links to eliminate duplicate files and thus
reduce the amount of used disk space within one or more file systems.
Freedup searches all given file system trees for identical files and links
them to the most frequently referenced inode or to the inode of the first
file tree. If the devices differ, a symbolic link is used instead of a
hard link. Symbolic links will not replace files when at least one of the
directory trees does not start with a "/" (unless overridden by the -s
option).
Changes: This release brings more bugfixes and tests. Now the results are
as expected, and mostly achieved within a single run. All bugs introduced
in release 0.2 are now hopefully fixed. There are two new options (-w and
-l) and an extended man page and Web description.

Games/Entertainment
System :: Emulators
About: Gambatte is an accuracy-focused, cross-platform Game Boy and Game
Boy Color emulator. It is based on hundreds of corner case hardware tests,
as well as previous documentation and reverse engineering efforts. The core
emulation code is contained in a separate library back-end (libgambatte)
written in pure platform-independent C++. There is a GUI that uses
Trolltech's Qt4 toolkit (gambatte_qt), and a simple command-line SDL
front-end (gambatte_sdl). The GUI front-end contains platform-specific
extensions for video, sound, and timers.
Changes: This minor update mainly consists of bugfixes and smaller
front-end, documentation, and build changes. i386 .debs built on Debian
lenny have been added to the download section for this release. They're
very likely to work well on other distributions that use the .deb format
(like Ubuntu).

Software Development :: Libraries
About: Libvirt is a library for management of virtualized operating
systems. Initially supporting the Xen hypervisor, it provides a generic
driver backend to allow implementations for management of arbitrary
hypervisors (QEMU, UML, etc). The library aims to provide a long term
stable API to isolate applications from instability in the APIs of the
underlying virtualization technology. The core library API is written in
C, with bindings for Python and a command line tool for shell scripting
also provided. The library allows either full read-write access to the
hypervisor, or for unprivileged use a secure read-only channel (eg for
monitoring).
Changes: Migration support for Xen. Save and restore support for KVM. APIs
for querying disk and network interface statistics. Performance
improvements for looking up Xen domains. Miscellaneous other small
bugfixes and feature enhancements.

by Orc (http://freshmeat.net/users/fmOrc/)
Wed, Aug 29th 2007 09:01
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
About: Postoffice is a simple SMTP mail server and client written with
spam blocking in mind. It provides a greylist to slow down the rate of
incoming spam, and can be configured to do antivirus checking on incoming
mail either via the sendmail milter protocol or a traditional hard-coded
AV program. Postoffice can be configured to deliver mail to accounts
inside vm-pop3d-style virtual domains, and it can further be enabled to
support AUTH LOGIN for people inside virtual domains, so they can use
postoffice as a mail forwarder when replying to mail. Postoffice accepts
(and ignores) many of the same command line options that are passed to
sendmail, and it comes with the usual crop of sendmail compatable aliases;
runq, mailq, newaliases, and sendmail.
Changes: The first release of junkmail folder support was added, so spam
can be saved out in a local folder instead of being refused with great
force. Junkmail folders are configured with the junkfolder= option in
postoffice.cf, which tells postoffice to accept junkmail, but put it into
<maildir>/<user>:<junkfolder> instead of the regular mailbox.

[054] - Virt Install 0.300.0
by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
Wed, Aug 29th 2007 16:45
System :: Systems Administration
About: Virt Install is a command line tool built on top of libvirt that
facilitates installation of virtual machines. It supports installation of
fully-virtualized Xen guest machines for arbitrary operating systems and
installation of Xen paravirtualized Fedora/RHEL operating systems. The
tool takes care of fetching the guest kernels, creating file based disk
images, and booting the guest operating system installer media.
Changes: This release introduces the virt-image tool, which provides the
ability to create guests based on a pre-define image. The image provides
metadata describing the required host virtualization capabilities, the
recommend resource allocations, and one or more pre-installed disk
templates. All new fully virtualized guests now get a USB tablet device
configured, providing an easier to use pointer. Further improvements are
made to input validation to catch user errors earlier. Use of the 'xm
console' and 'vncviewer' external programs has been replaced with 'virsh

[055] - Virtual Machine Manager 0.5.0
by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
Wed, Aug 29th 2007 16:48
System :: Systems Administration
About: The Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager for short) is a desktop
application for managing virtual machines. Since it uses libvirt, it is
capable of managing machines from any hypervisor supported by libvirt. Xen
is the current primary target. The application's views provide summaries
and detailed statistics on performance and resource utilization. A wizard
facilitates creation of new guest domains, both para-virtualized and
fully-virtualized. Console access is enabled either to a text based serial
console or fully graphical access via an embedded VNC client.
Changes: This release introduces the ability to manage multiple remote
machines, using either SSH+public keys or TLS+x509 certificates to connect
and authenticate. The main user interface is re-worked to show multiple
hosts in a tree view, remembering connections across restarts. The guest
VNC console implementation has been replaced with the GTK-VNC widget for
greatly improved performance and increased feature set. Other
miscellaneous bugfixes and feature enhancements are also included.

[056] - Virtual Machine Viewer 0.0.2
by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
Wed, Aug 29th 2007 16:47

About: Virtual Machine Viewer (virt-viewer) is a lightweight interface for
interacting with the graphical display of a virtualized guest OS. It uses
GTK-VNC and libvirt to look up the VNC server details associated with the

client, since the latter does not support SSL/TLS encryption of x509
certificate authentication.
Changes: This release adds the ability to directly connect to remote

About: WordPress is a state-of-the-art, semantic, personal publishing
platform with a focus on aesthetics, Web standards, and usability. It was
born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architectured personal
publishing system, and is the official successor to b2/cafelog. While
primarily geared towards functioning as a Weblog, it is also a flexible
CMS capable of managing many types of Web sites. In addition to the basic
Weblog functions, it also has an integrated link manager (e.g. for
blogrolls), XFN support, support for "static" pages, Atom and RSS feeds
for both content and comments, XML-RPC blogging API support (Blogger,
MetaWeblog, and Movable Type APIs), spam blocking features, advanced
cruft-free URL generation, a flexible theme system, and an advanced plugin

Flexible rules can be used to specify repeated projects. Context, project,
and date views are supported and output can be filtered in a variety of
ways. Output can optionally be printed or sent to standard output in
several formats. Commands are provided for marking tasks complete, opening
files for editing, and backing up project files.
Changes: This release adds an unnumbered option to hide the action number
/ total number of actions in a project in displayed output. It is intended
for a single tasks project where this information is irrelevant. A bug has
been fixed in which subsequently listed actions in a project would not be
displayed if an action listed earlier had a later begin date.
