[001] - Arkanoid: Space Ball 1.1.9 (Linux)
  by Andrey Ugolnik (http://freshmeat.net/users/andreyu/)
  Sun, Sep 30th 2007 00:53

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: Arkanoid: Space Ball is an unusual and picturesque game with a
futuristic atmosphere, modern techno-style graphics, dynamic gameplay, and
an excellent soundtrack. The goal of the game is to clear a lot of
platforms soaring in space while meteorites, spacecraft, and enemy guns
constantly threaten your life. Numerous bonuses drop out from the broken
blocks to help you to pass obstacles such as lasers, rocket launchers, and
force fields. Its special features include horizontally oriented break
block formation, moving and shooting bricks, and gravitational anomalies.

[002] - ASCIIMathML 2.0.2
  by Peter Jipsen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jipsen/)
  Sun, Sep 30th 2007 00:13

Education
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based

About: ASCIIMathML is a script that converts calculator-style ASCII math
notation (and many LaTeX formulas) to Presentation MathML while your Web
page loads. It works with HTML and XHTML files in Mozilla/Firefox/Netscape
7+ browsers, as well as in Internet Explorer 6 with MathPlayer. For
example, the solutions for the equation 'ax^2+bx+c=0' are expressed in the
HTML file as '(-b +- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)', and display as nicely
formatted MathML. The script can be easily used in wikiservers and blogs,
as a rudimentary MathML editor (with instant preview), and to preview math
formulas as they are typed into a Web page input area.

Changes: The ASCIIMathML.js script enables users to easily include
mathematical formulas and graphs in Web pages (simplified LaTeX and
graphics commands are converted to MathML+SVG while the Web page loads).
The license is now GNU LGPL. The script produces interactive graphs that
readers of the Web page can change locally. It now easily integrates in
course management systems like Moodle. A new auto-math-recognize mode has
been added. MathML text labels can be included on SVG graphs, and the SVG
cursor tracking in Firefox has improved. A scientific calculator with
MathML preview is included.

[003] - BlockHosts 2.1.0
  by Avinash Chopde (http://freshmeat.net/users/avinash1/)
  Sun, Sep 30th 2007 14:25

System :: Networking

About: BlockHosts is a script to record how many times a local system is
attacked, based on configurable scanning of system logs for sshd or other
services. When a particular IP address exceeds a configured number of
failed login attempts, that IP address is blocked using hosts.allow files,
or by using null-routing, or by using packet filtering. An email
notification facility is also available.

Changes: Whitelisting and blacklisting are now supported through
configuration of lists of IP addresses and IP address regular expressions.
This forces specific IP addresses to never be blocked, or to be immediately
blocked. Some more patterns have been added to catch Postfix/smtpd
authentication failures.

  by Sam Hocevar (http://freshmeat.net/users/sammy/)
  Sun, Sep 30th 2007 07:48

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The libcaca library is a graphics library that outputs text
instead of pixels, so that it can work on older video cards or text
terminals. It is not unlike the famous AAlib library except it supports
colour output.

Changes: The libcucul backend now supports 90-degree rotations of ASCII
and Unicode art. The internal font has support for more Unicode blocks
(Halfwidth and Fullwidth Forms, Geometric Shapes, and Miscellaneous
Symbols). The libcaca frontend has preliminary .NET bindings, a new Cocoa
output driver for Mac OS X, and improved support for fallback output of
Unicode art on an ASCII terminal.

[027] - Logapp 0.8
  by Michael Brunner (http://freshmeat.net/users/mibrunner/)
  Sun, Sep 30th 2007 07:47

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
System

About: Logapp is a wrapper utility that helps supervise the execution of
applications that produce heavy console output (e.g. make, CVS, and
Subversion). It does this by logging, trimming, and coloring each line of
the output before displaying it. It can be called instead of the
executable that should be monitored; it then starts the application and
logs all of its console output to a file. The output shown in the terminal
is preprocessed, e.g. to limit the length of printed lines and to show the
stderr output in a different color. It is also possible to automatically
highlight lines that match a certain regular expression. The output is
therefore reduced to the necessary amount, and all important lines are
easy to identify.

Changes: Escape sequence detection and the ability to manually activate
configuration file sections have been added. There have been a few small
updates and fixes.

  by BpMatthias (http://freshmeat.net/users/BpMatthias/)
  Sun, Sep 30th 2007 17:07

System :: Logging
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: Logger is a log queueing and optimization utility. It can handle
logs larger than 2GB and perform automatic nightly log rotation without
affecting services. Any application that writes a log can be maintained be
Logger, including syslogd. It is light, small, and fast, emphasizes
security, and reduces drive usage through memory queueing.

Changes: Memory allocations have been cleaned up. Memory is now allocated
much more effeciently. Code has been added to make every attempt at
preventing Logger from crashing on insanely large memory queues. This has
been tested with tcpdump. Maximum used memory at 500,000 queued lines was
68 MB. Predefined memory settings have been added to the COMPILE script.
Logger will not exceed a total of 16 MB for its memory queues by default
now.

  Sun, Sep 30th 2007 14:21

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Mantissa is a collection of various mathematical algorithms in Java
aimed towards simulation. It features a small set of linear algebra
classes, a least squares estimator, some curve fitting classes, several
ordinary differential equation integrators (all supporting multiple
switching functions and dense output), vectors and rotations in a three
dimensional space, algebra-related classes like rational and double
polynomials, various orthogonal polynomials, some optimization algorithms
using direct search methods, and more.

Changes: This version adds the two methods getCurrentStepStart and
getCurrentStepsize to interface FirstOrderIntegrator, allowing ODE
problems to retrieve the current step start and size during integration
for each step trial (i.e. even before the step is accepted).

  Sun, Sep 30th 2007 07:35

System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: The sysstat package contains the sar, sadf, iostat, mpstat, and
pidstat commands for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system
activity information. The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer
rates, paging activity, process-related activites, interrupts, network
activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU utilization, kernel
activities, and TTY statistics, among others. The sadf command may be used
to display data collected by sar in various formats. The iostat command
reports CPU statistics and I/O statistics for tty devices and disks. The
pidstat command reports statistics for Linux processes. The mpstat command
reports global and per-processor statistics.

Changes: The option -t has been added to pistat: pidstat can now display
stats for every thread (TID) of a process. pidstat's option -T CHILD now
reports global statistics for selected tasks and all their children (and
not only for the children). A rare parallel make issue creating archive

About: ZRTP Protocol Library is an implementation of Phil Zimmermann's
ZRTP protocol, created based on and interoperable with Zfone beta 2.
Combined with the GNU RTP Stack (ccrtp), this offers the ability to create
