[001] - APIlity Agua 1.10.4
by Thomas Steiner (http://freshmeat.net/users/googletomac/)
Fri, Oct 5th 2007 16:12
About: APIlity Agua is an AJAX application that allows users to manage
their Google AdWords accounts in an interactive and asynchronous way. The
application behaves almost like a program on your desktop, but runs
entirely in your Web browser. The name Agua stands for APIlity GUI for
AdWords.
Changes: The APIlity layer has been updated to 1.10.4.

[002] - awesome 1.3
by Julien Danjou (http://freshmeat.net/users/jdanjou/)
Fri, Oct 5th 2007 14:28
Desktop Environment :: Window Managers
About: awesome is a window manager for X. It manages windows in several
layout modes, such as tiled or floating. Each layout can be applied
dynamically. Windows can be grouped by tags, and each window can be tagged
with one or multiple tags, and each tag can have its own layout.
Changes: This release add a new Xinerama support: screens are now
independent. Some bugs were fixed: awesome now applies selected layouts
for tag in uicbtagview{next,prev} and rules now match the window name. New
features have been added, like a -c option to specify an alternate
configuration file, Xft support, uicb_exec() to spawn another window
manager, uicb_setlayout() (which can now cycle backward or reset to
default), new uicb_movetoscreen() to move a window to another screen
(Xinerama), and mouse wheel support in the status bar.

Desktop Environment
Desktop Environment :: Window Managers
About: awm is a custom window manager. It's small, functional, and fast.
It is based on dwm and is just ~1800 lines of code. It is based on the
workspace concept, but the space is two dimensional. Each time you move to
a new, unvisited workspace, a terminal window is automatically launched,
emulating TTYs' behavior. You can delete an entire workspace, killing all
the windows launched in it. You can even delete an entire dimension,
deleting all the residing workspaces. To resize a window, you just
Alt+RightClick on any point of the screen, and the window will immediately
resize. The windows can be ordered on the fly with the tiling algorithm of
dwm, and then restored. This is useful to get a quick glimpse of the
current workspace. A proc-like interface can be used retrieve information
from awm.

Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry
About: Bist stands for "bidimensional structures" and is a chemical
drawing tool. It is focused on organic chemistry, but it may be useful for
chemists or teachers as well. Bist support many of the formalisms used to
describe molecular structures like single bond, double bond,
stereospecific bond, charges, resonance arrows, lone pairs, and so on. It
can export both PostScript and PNG formats.
Changes: Two new plugins have been added. The GUI is more coherent and
ergonomic. Many bugs have been fixed, both in the software and
installation script. The charge's position around atoms can be set by the
user. The arrow appearance should be better now. The free text can be
edited. Compile with g++ version 4.2. The license has been updated from
the GPLv2 to the GPLv3.

[007] - CacheGuard OS 5.2.0b
by Afshin Tajvidi (http://freshmeat.net/users/tajflow/)
Fri, Oct 5th 2007 14:34
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security
About: CacheGuard is a Linux-based operating system dedicated to Web
traffic control and optimization. It transforms an x86-based machine into
a powerful, Web gateway appliance. It allows you to secure Web traffic for
Web surfers and Web servers by acting as a forwarding and reverse HTTP /
HTTPS proxy. It supports HTTP transparent implementation, HTTP
compression, Web caching, URL black- and whitelist guarding, and Web
server load balancing. It features a stateful firewall with NAT and PAT,
and a content filtering module blocking malicious HTTP requests like XSS,
SQL and Command Injection. It integrates a caching DNS, a DHCP server, a
bandwidth shaper to manage the QoS, a load sharing system, and an HA (high
availability) mode with VRRP and link bonding.
Changes: X-Forwarded-Host and X-Forwarded-Server are removed from HTTP
headers requests. X-Forwarded-For is also removed if no Nest Peer is
declared when the anonymous mode is activated. Port numbers for Next Peers
can range from 0 to 65535 (see the command peer). An audit mode is
integrated with the content filtering module. Auditing allows you to
inspect HTTP request contents and facilitate the filtering rule design
process (see the commands "admin", "filter", and "port"). A "Logout" link
has been added to the Administration Web GUI. Deleting an administrator
user works properly.

Software Development :: Bug Tracking
About: Codestriker is a Web application that supports online code reviews.
Traditional document reviews are supported, as well as reviewing diffs
generated by an SCM (Source Code Management) system and plain unidiff
patches. There are integration points with CVS, Subversion, Clearcase,
Perforce, Visual SourceSafe, and Bugzilla. There is a plug-in architecture
for supporting other SCMs and issue tracking systems. It minimizes paper
work, ensures that issues, comments, and decisions are recorded in a
database, and provides a comfortable workspace for actually performing
code inspections. An optional highly-configurable metrics subsystem allows
you to record code inspection metrics as a part of your process.
Changes: Handling was improved for Subversion diff files, including
invalid forms generated in Chinese locales by the Subversion client.
Support for launching external programs under mod_perl for Win32 and other
systems was improved. Creating dynamic Subversion topics in non-English
locales is now supported. Handling of Perforce and ClearCase diff files
was improved. ClearCase dynamic views are supported under Win32. A bunch
of minor bugfixes and UI improvements were made.

[034] - NoMachine NX 3.0.0-83 (Client)
by NXAdmin (http://freshmeat.net/users/NXAdmin/)
Fri, Oct 5th 2007 07:47
Communications
Desktop Environment
Software Development
About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server and desktop virtualization
system based on the X11 protocol. NX is an order of magnitude faster than
VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec. In addition,
NX translates and embeds the MS Windows Terminal Server and VNC protocols
into X/NX, enabling users to compress and accelerate remote Windows and
VNC sessions. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and X11proxying
agents implementing efficient compression and optimized transport of X11,
SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio and video over the
Internet.
Changes: This release delivers fixes for a number of problems and
introduces changes aimed at improving NX Client running on Windows Vista.
Among problems that have been fixed are: when UAC was enabled on Vista,
every time you ran NX Client, Windows asked for permission to execute
nxsetup.exe, sessions might fail to start on Windows with the error
"Cannot initialize display service", the nxprint utility could fail on
older Linux distributions, and reconnecting a session could fail with
previous versions of NX Server.

[035] - nss-ldapd 0.4
by Arthur (http://freshmeat.net/users/tiearthur/)
Fri, Oct 5th 2007 14:37
System :: Networking :: LDAP
System :: Systems Administration
About: nss-ldapd is a (glibc) NSS module for doing name lookups to an LDAP
server. This module allows retrieval of information about Unix accounts,
groups, hosts, and other information from an LDAP directory. It is a fork
from the nss_ldap module to do some architectural changes. This
implementation splits the functionality into an NSS part and a local
daemon to do the lookups. This works around a number of problems in the
original implementation.
Changes: This release adds some major changes to the codebase. Custom
filters and attribute mapping should be fully functional with this
release. Most of the changes are code removal and simplifications that
increase performance and maintainability. A number of features were
removed because of this. Documentation was improved, and config file
handling now includes warnings for unsupported or otherwise problematic
options.

by Vinay Sajip (http://freshmeat.net/users/vsajip/)
Fri, Oct 5th 2007 08:02
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Python config module allows a hierarchical configuration scheme
with support for mappings and sequences, cross-references between one part
of the configuration and another, the ability to flexibly access real
Python objects without full-blown eval(), an include facility, simple
expression evaluation, and the ability to change, save, cascade, and merge
configurations. It interfaces easily with environment variables and command
line options. It has been developed on Python 2.3, but should work on
version 2.2 or greater.
Changes: This release adds Mapping.__delitem__, makes
Mapping.__getattribute__ no longer return "" when asked for "__class__"
(doing so causes pickle to crash), and allows negative numbers.

[043] - Tagsistant 0.0.20070829
by Tx0 (http://freshmeat.net/users/tx0/)
Fri, Oct 5th 2007 10:29
Desktop Environment :: File Managers
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
System :: Filesystems
About: Tagsistant is a semantic filesystem for Linux and BSD kernels. It
uses directories as tags and allows file tagging by simply putting files
inside desired tag directories. The path you are walking by is your query,
e.g. tagsistant/tag1/AND/tag2/OR/tag3/AND/tag2/. Being a low level
interface, a filesystem can be instantly used by shell users, file
managers, or CGI. A plug-in architecture is under development to add
autotagging functionality for common files like .mp3, .ogg, .jpeg, .html,
and .xml. A transparent ontology engine is also planned to allow users
create a relationship schema between directories by moving one inside the
other.
