[002] - Apache Cayenne 2.0.4 (Stable)
by Aristedes Maniatis (http://freshmeat.net/users/aristedes/)
Sat, Oct 13th 2007 02:14
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Apache Cayenne is a persistence framework that provides
object-relational mapping (ORM) and remoting services. It has a wealth of
unique and powerful features and can address a wide range of persistence
needs. Cayenne seamlessly binds one or more database schemas directly to
Java objects, managing atomic commit and rollbacks, SQL generation, joins,
sequences, and more. With Cayenne's Remote Object Persistence, those Java
objects can even be persisted out to clients via Web Services. With native
XML serialization, objects can be even further persisted to non-Java
clients.
Changes: A "Null ObjectId" exception from DataContext.localObject() was
fixed along with a memory leak in DispatchQueue and EventManager.
Deserialization of DataContext no longer fails when useSharedCache is
false. A Frontbase NUMERIC type mapping typo was fixed. Enum-mapped
columns are now properly handled in expressions. An issue where object
properties were unexpectedly set to null through forceMergeWithSnapshot
was corrected. A potential bug with deleting uncommited objects from a
nested DataContext was fixed.

[007] - awm 0.0.7
by Alpt (http://freshmeat.net/users/Alpt/)
Sat, Oct 13th 2007 12:07
Desktop Environment
Desktop Environment :: Window Managers
About: awm is a custom window manager. It's small, functional, and fast.
It is based on dwm and is just ~1800 lines of code. It is based on the
workspace concept, but the space is two dimensional. Each time you move to
a new, unvisited workspace, a terminal window is automatically launched,
emulating TTYs' behavior. You can delete an entire workspace, killing all
the windows launched in it. You can even delete an entire dimension,
deleting all the residing workspaces. To resize a window, you just
Alt+RightClick on any point of the screen, and the window will immediately
resize. The windows can be ordered on the fly with the tiling algorithm of
dwm, and then restored. This is useful to get a quick glimpse of the
current workspace. A proc-like interface can be used retrieve information
from awm.
Changes: If inside the current X there's just one Y and you delete it,
then the current X will be deleted too. As a new feature, the terminals
opened in new workspaces are preemptive. Awm keeps one terminal already
launched, so when you move on a new workspace it just unhides the terminal
window and launches another hidden terminal. This gives a great speed gain.
Some bugs were fixed.

[008] - Botan 1.7.2 (Development)
by Jack Lloyd (http://freshmeat.net/users/randombit/)
Sat, Oct 13th 2007 15:25
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Botan is a C++ library of cryptographic algorithms. It includes a
wide selection of cryptographic algorithms (including AES, DES, SHA-1,
RSA, and DSA, among many others). It also support X.509 certificates and
several common certificate-related formats and protocols. It has a high
level interface, is easily portable to most systems and compilers, and
includes a substantial tutorial and API reference.
Changes: The CBC-MAC algorithm was added, which is old and not very secure
but sometimes needed for compatibility. Some of the self test and library
initialization code was rewritten to avoid needless complexity. Explicitly
initializing the library is no longer needed in many cases; it will do so
when it is first required.

by cliff (http://freshmeat.net/users/iamcliff/)
Sat, Oct 13th 2007 15:24
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: lmadl automates the downloading of shows and the subsequent
processing of the audio files from the live music archive at
www.archive.org/audio. lmadl takes as its argument the URL of the Live
Music Archive index page for a show, finds the available files, and asks
the user which format to download or to quit. When lossless formats (shn
or FLAC) are downloaded, it will run shn2make on the resulting files to
facilitate creation of audio CDs, archive CDRs, or encoding to lossy
formats. It supports interruption and restarting of downloads.
Changes: This release works with the new format of the live music archive
pages. When the LMA index page is scraped, the file types available (ogg,
flac, etc.) are presented in a simple menu from which the user can choose.

Because it works entirely from the command line, it is very fast to use,
powerful, and flexible.
Changes: This release cleans up a great deal of Pantry code, making it
much shorter overall. This makes the program run faster under certain
circumstances. Some changes were made in the XML file format and in the
configuration file format. The Pantry native file format is incompatible
with earlier versions, but a converter is included to convert Pantry
native files made with versions 19, 20, and 21 so they will work with
version 22.

automatically restore Grub on your MBR, swap hard disks in the BIOS, and
boot from any available disk device. It has multi-language support, and
allows you to change the keyboard layout of your shell.
Changes: A "Show partitions" option was added under the "Boot & Tools"
menu. This feature shows your partitions without modifying them. The main
menu now offers experienced SGD users a way of not having to see so many
help messages. A lot of non-boot options now end to the Exit menu so that
you can reboot and test your changes faster than ever.

[047] - Zile is Lossy Emacs 2.2.45
by Reuben Thomas (http://freshmeat.net/users/rrt/)
Sat, Oct 13th 2007 15:21
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: Floppy-Based
Text Editors
Text Editors :: Emacs
About: Zile is a small, fast, and powerful Emacs clone. It is useful for
small footprint installations (e.g. on floppy disk) or quick editing
sessions.
Changes: This release overhauls the presentation of keybindings to make
them more like Emacs. list-bindings is now called describe-bindings, as in
Emacs, and shows current rather than default bindings, as does where-is.
The list of key bindings is no longer given in the manual, as it was
usually out of date, and is in any case wrong if the user rebinds keys.
Some minor bugs were fixed, as was a crash caused by malformed key
bindings. An automated release mechanism was added to the build system.
