Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: @Mail is a fully-featured WebMail server, allowing users to send
and receive email via a Web browser or WAP device. It has full support for
IMAP/POP3 mailboxes, and an optional email-server mode that uses Exim as
the MTA. Features include a scheduler, MySQL backend support, spell-check,
addressbook, user preferences, multiple accounts, Spamassassin support,
migration scripts from other mail servers, a customizable interface, an
attractive DHTML interface, an optional group Calendar/Addressbook, an
Outlook 2000/2003 plugin to sync Contacts/Tasks/Calendar data between a
desktop client and Webmail.
Changes: A weekly Calendar view using AJAX was added. Drag'n'Drop support
for events was improved. A calendar popup reminder via Webmail was added.
The Outlook sync plugin supports user-timezones correctly between the
client and the server. Email to folder sorting support was added. The
Italian translation was updated. Maildir search speed was improved.
Support for quoted-printable MIME messages was improved. Approximately 30
other minor code changes were made.

[002] - Absolute OS 12.0.7
by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 13:29
About: Absolute is a lightweight Slackware Linux derivative distribution
that uses an Icewm, ROX-Filer window/file manager combination. It comes
with Firefox, The GIMP, MPlayer, K3B, kTorrent, Gaim, Frostwire, Gftp,
StarDict, Skype, and many other titles all set up and ready to run.
Several utilities are included to ease configuration and management. It is
compatible with all Slackware 11 packages and can be installed just like a
Slackware disk, except that you cannot choose which packages to install or
remove, as it just installs everything.
Changes: Fairly extensive changes in terms of bug removal and added
features. Major fixes include mounted external volumes writable by user as
well as root. The clearFstab script is tamed, GUI login no longer leads to
any missing resources problems, GIMP scripts are patched to work with the
2.4 series, epdfview replaces xpdf as the PDF viewer, Firefox is updated
and includes all header files to compile apps against, an installer is
available (as root) for folks lucky enough to legally use "restricted"
multimedia files, Audacity 1.3.3 is included, and checkinstall version
1.5.3 works and has been patched to behave nicely.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security
About: CacheGuard is a Linux-based operating system dedicated to Web
traffic control and optimization. It transforms an x86-based machine into
a powerful, Web gateway appliance. It allows you to secure Web traffic for
Web surfers and Web servers by acting as a forwarding and reverse HTTP /
HTTPS proxy. It supports HTTP transparent implementation, HTTP
compression, Web caching, URL black- and whitelist guarding, and Web
server load balancing. It features a stateful firewall with NAT and PAT,
and a content filtering module blocking malicious HTTP requests like XSS,
SQL and Command Injection. It integrates a caching DNS, a DHCP server, a
bandwidth shaper to manage the QoS, a load sharing system, and an HA (high
availability) mode with VRRP and link bonding.
Changes: The Web GUI program has been optimized. The configuration loading
works properly even if the file to load does not exist. The reverse Web
auditing documentation has been enhanced. Passwords having a length of 9
chracters or greater are supported. FTP and TFTP protocols are supported
by the firewall. In High Availability mode, all services all activated
properly after configuration changes.

[008] - camp2ascii 0.99.5
by Mathias Bavay (http://freshmeat.net/users/math/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 11:40
Scientific/Engineering
About: camp2ascii is a tool for converting Campbell Scientific binary
files into ASCII (formatted as CSV, SQL, etc.). It extracts the data
stored in the binary files created by data loggers while trying to be
fast, reliable, and to extract as much information as possible. It should
also work on a wide range of platforms.
Changes: The Tob1 file format is now supported alongside tob2 and tob3.
Almost all Campbell Scientific data types are now supported and validated.
Critical sections of the code have been cleaned up in order to make it
portable to other architectures (64 bytes, endianness, etc.). A few
bugfixes and some code cleanup are also part of this release.

System :: Shells
About: Create Java Logger adds logger code to all Java files recursively
from a given directory. If a directory is not defined, the current
directory is used. By default, calls to System.out.println are reaplaced
with calls to logger.fine, but you can change the logging level by using
the command code options or choose not to do such replacement at all. It
is a good idea to create a backup of your code before running the script.

[011] - Das Schaefchen 0.2.2
by Guido (http://freshmeat.net/users/guidoreina/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 16:12
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: Das Schaefchen is a lightweight HTTP server for Linux platforms. It
supports the minimum requirements of the HTTP/1.1 protocol and virtual
hosts, basic authentication (which can be used to protect either files or
directories), directory listing, byte ranges, and reverse proxy. It is an
event-driven server that runs as a single process with a single thread
using non-blocking I/O. It uses epoll as the event notification mechanism
to multiplex control between active connections.
Changes: This release fixes a bug in the reverse proxy. Now the Web server
can handle absolute URIs. Error logs are written to a log file. WebDAV
methods are now understood and passed to the backends.

[016] - GNU ddrescue 1.6-rc3 (Development)
by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 05:37
System :: Recovery Tools
About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.
Changes: This release adds a new pass which trims error areas backwards
before splitting them, making the rescue more efficient when there are big
error areas or many error areas.

Communications :: Fax
About: HylaFAX is a fax and paging system for Unix. It supports sending
facsimile, receiving facsimile, polled retrieval of facsimile, transparent
shared data use of the modem and sending alpha-numeric pages. The software
is structured around a client-server architecture. Fax modems may reside
on a single machine on a network and clients can submit outbound jobs from
any machine that can communicate with the machine on which the modems
reside. An access control mechanism is included to control which users on
which machines may access a server.
Changes: Fax protocol improvements, fixes, and enhancements were made. The

Fri, Oct 12th 2007 05:27
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: The MiniUPnP project is a library and a daemon. The library is
aimed to enable applications to use the capabilities of a UPnP Internet
Gateway Device present on the network to forward ports. The daemon adds
the UPnP Internet Gateway Device functionality to a NAT gateway running
OpenBSD/NetBSD/FreeBSD with PF or Linux 2.4.x/2.6.x with netfilter. One of
its most interesting features is to enforce some permissions to allow or
deny redirections, bringing some security to UPnP.
Changes: SunOS/Solaris support and an ipf implementation were added to
MiniUPnPd. To allow this, the code was reorganized for better support for
different OSes or firewalls. MiniUPnPd now correctly checks its command
line. In MiniUPnPc, a memory bug was fixed, and a function in order to use
a known-in-advance UPnP IGD was introduced. The Makefile has been improved.
Man pages were added to all subprojects.

[035] - rsyslog 1.19.9 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 11:32
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.
Changes: This release primarily focuses on the build system, which again
comes as a single tarball. Some code restructuring has been done, and some
experimental code added that will aid in detecting a bug occurring in some
environments. If you are happy with your current release, there is no need
to update to this one.

[036] - ServerKit 0.0.14
by swivel (http://freshmeat.net/users/swivel/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 11:31
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: ServerKit helps developers quickly build efficient, scalable, and
uniformly configured, installed, and executed server programs (commonly
known as daemons) for Linux. A core server program handles configuration
parsing, database connection pool creation, and switching of users.
Application-specific shared object modules are loaded at runtime and
access the configuration data and database connection pools via simple
well-defined interfaces. A library that provides the server program with
most of its functionality, in addition to implementing a rich API for
quick module development, is included. The API includes abstraction of
thread pools, delayed work management using epoll, database connection
pools and querying, logging, queues, and heaps.
Changes: MySQL error logging has been improved. The server_ptree code and
API have been changed to not depend on null-terminated strings, but rather
use explicit string lengths and support the null value as any other pattern
character.

[037] - Shttp 0.0.2
by swivel (http://freshmeat.net/users/swivel/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 11:30
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
About: Shttp is a simple, partial HTTP/1.1 implementation built using the
ServerKit framework. It is less than 1000 lines of code, and serves well
as a minimal lightweight HTTP server in closed/controlled settings, as
well as a learning tool for those interested in developing
TCP-service-providing modules using ServerKit. Illustrating how easy it is
to build efficient server programs using ServerKit, this module has
demonstrated 7200 requests/second in AB benchmarks.
Changes: This release uses sendfile() for greater efficiency. Support has
been added for a default index. This release has support for
/etc/mime.types and sets content-type based on file extension. It prevents
relative paths from breaking out of docroot and decodes hex-encoded URIs.

[039] - Stunnix JavaScript Obfuscator and Encoder 3.8
by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 01:03
Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.
Changes: Now all markup inside an ASP file can be converted to calls of
response.write(), thus converting any ASP file into a single block of ASP
code without markup around it, with the ability to encode such a "huge"
block afterwards. The GUI has been greatly polished, and is much more
intuitive.

[041] - Torah Tools 0.3 (Daf test)
by Shalom Naumann (http://freshmeat.net/users/clum/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 05:35
Education :: Testing
Religion
About: Torah Tools is a collection of utilities designed to assist Torah
learning. Currently, Torah Tools consists of two programs: Daf test and
Gemarah charts. Daf test helps you memorize on what page each Gemarah is
to be found. It gives you a test to take after you learn a Perek or
Masechta that requires you to choose the correct location for a displayed
Amud of Gemarah. Gemarah charts helps you keep track of how many times
you've Chazered over material by providing a chart with a list of all of
the Perakim in the Mesechta, a list of the Dafim in each Perek, and just
enough room in each box to mark off your Chazaros.
Changes: This release adds the ability to be tested on any combination of
Dafim, Perakim, Mesechtos, or all of Shas. A bug has been fixed which
prevented all the possible answers from being displayed when being tested
on a lot of material.

[044] - XMLToaster 1.0.2
by blater (http://freshmeat.net/users/blater/)
Fri, Oct 12th 2007 00:56
Database
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: XMLToaster is an XML-to-Relational mapping tool. If you already
know SQL, its learning curve is extremely shallow, and writing a mapping
to generate XML from database tables or to save XML into a database is
made easy with a powerful mapping language with SQL-like syntax. It
supports complex mappings, and you can map either plain XML or XML
schemas.
Changes: The "setRootDirectory" method in the "SQLtoXML" class now works
correctly. Repeated calls to the "setScript" method now do not cause
duplicate data to be generated in the output XML. It is now possible to
have "$" characters in your database column names. You may also wrap
column names with eiterh double-quotes or square brackets (for SQL
server).
