[016] - honeytrap 1.0.0
  by Tillmann Werner (http://freshmeat.net/users/honeytrap/)
  Sat, Oct 27th 2007 13:51

Security
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Honeytrap is a network security tool written to observe attacks
against TCP services. As a low-interactive honeypot, it collects
information regarding known or unknown network-based attacks and thus can
provide early-warning information. The daemon monitors the network stream
for incoming connections and dynamically starts server processes if it
detects a request to an unbound port. Honeytrap can also be set up as a
meta honeypot that forwards several attacks to other systems or, in mirror
mode, redirects a connection back to the initiator. Several plugins are
available for automated attack analysis.

Changes: The configuration concept has been totally revised, which makes
module handling much more flexible. The system was also redesigned to put
more tasks into modules. Analysis plugins can now create "virtual attacks"
which can be further processed with other plugins. This release also
introduces three new plugins.

Internet

About: The RegexPolicyDaemon (rxpd) can be used to efficiently check data
against different lists of regular expressions. This can be used to build
whitelists/blacklists to protect many kinds of Internet services. It uses
a simple textual protocol that is easily implementable in scripting
languages. Example usages are access and content control (spam filtering)
for CGI scripts, wikis, email, revision control systems, IRC servers and
clients,  and so on.

Changes: gnu-pth is now used as the underlying event/scheduling library
now. All basic commands, including the ones for distributed operation
(FETCH, UPDATE, and MERGE) are now implemented. A test suite was included.
Many other things were completed and cleaned up.

[029] - Revenant CMX 1.0
  by Applied Datamatics (http://freshmeat.net/users/applieddatamatics/)
  Sat, Oct 27th 2007 14:24

About: Revenant CMX is a lightweight content management system for the
non-technical user that emphasizes ease of use over the proliferation of
bells and whistles. It has been designed so that the most essential tasks
involved in deploying a small Web site can be performed in the fewest
steps possible. Many functions that require IT expertise have been
automated so that they occur silently in the background. Thus, the end
user may focus exclusively on content development tasks.

Desktop Environment
Software Development :: Internationalization
Terminals

About: rxvt-unicode is a clone of the well known terminal emulator rxvt,
modified to store text in Unicode and to use locale-correct input and
output. It also supports mixing multiple fonts at the same time, including
Xft fonts, real transparency, and an optional embedded Perl interpreter
that allows you to extend your terminal easily.

Changes: The transparency code has been overhauled and further improved,
adding XRender transparency and other goodies to the already extensive set
of options. xterm 1002/1003 mouse tracking modes have been implemented.
Some potential memory leaks have been plugged and a number of bugs have
been fixed, as usual.

[032] - SmokePing 2.2.5 (Stable)
  by Tobias Oetiker (http://freshmeat.net/users/oetiker/)

System :: Benchmark
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: SmokePing is a network latency monitor which works in a way that is
similar to MRTG. It measures network latency to a configurable set of
destinations on the network, and displays its findings in easy-to-read Web
pages. SmokePing has special support for monitoring hosts with dynamic IP
addresses. SmokePing uses RRDtool as its logging and graphing back-end,
making the system very efficient. The presentation of the data on the Web
is done through a CGI which creates graphs on demand.

Changes: "Live" command testing was removed, which fixes huge startup
delays on non-Linux OSes. Slaves are now allowed to have dotted names. The
port was made configurable in ssh probe. Slave names may be configured.
Zooming "out" functionality was added to zoom view.

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
System :: Networking

About: SPServer is a high concurrency C++ server framework library that
implements the Half-Sync/Half-Async and the Leader/Follower thread pool
patterns. It's based on libevent in order to utilize the best I/O loop on
any platform. It supports SSL for doing secure transactions. An SSL proxy,
sptunnel, is included. An embedded HTTP server framework, sphttp, is
included.

Changes: A GNUTLS socket I/O layer for spserver was added.

[035] - Stunnel 4.21
  by Michal Trojnara (http://freshmeat.net/users/mtrojnar/)
  Sat, Oct 27th 2007 14:49

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: The stunnel program is designed to work as an SSL encryption
wrapper between remote client and local (inetd-startable) or remote
server. It can be used to add SSL functionality to commonly used inetd
daemons like POP2, POP3, and IMAP servers without any changes in the
programs' code. It will negotiate an SSL connection using the OpenSSL or
SSLeay libraries. It calls the underlying crypto libraries, so stunnel
supports whatever cryptographic algorithms you compiled into your crypto
package.

Changes: Initial FIPS 140-2 support was added. Non-MT-safe libwrap (TCP
Wrappers) library support was rewritten. It's currently based on
pre-forked processes and should be much faster. Some bugfixes were also
added.

About: The Epeios MIDI to XML converter makes it possible to convert
binary MIDI files to a format that allows them to be handled effectively
