[001] - abcm2ps 5.6.0 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Tue, Oct 30th 2007 03:02

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: Internal changes were implemented and a few bugs were fixed.

About: AutoUpdate is a Perl script which performs a task similar to Red
Hat's up2date or autorpm. It can be used to automatically download and
upgrade RPMs from different HTTP(S) or (S)FTP sites, while also handling
dependencies. Moreover, it can also be used to keep a server with a
customized (Red Hat) distribution plus all clients up to date.

Changes: Broken get mode on multi-arch systems has been fixed.

  Tue, Oct 30th 2007 10:48

Software Development :: Libraries

About: libmemcached is a C client library for interfacing to a memcached
server. It has been designed to be light on memory usage, thread safe and
to provide full access to server side methods. It also implements several
command line tools: memcat, memflush, memrm, memstat, and memslap (for
load generation).

Changes: This release has moved to poll() from select(). There are fixes
in the internal string class for allocation of large numbers of strings.
The memcached_mget() function now sends keys as it parses them instead of
building strings as it goes. There is a proper flush now for making sure
all I/O is sent even when in non-block mode. An --enable-debug rule has
been added for configure. All asserts() have been removed. A new
memcached_clone() function has been added.

Communications
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: MUSCLE (Multi User Server Client Linking Environment) is an N-way
messaging server and networking API. It includes client-side networking
APIs for various languages, including C, C++, C#, Delphi, Java, and
Python. MUSCLE lets programs communicate over a network via streams of
serialized Message objects. The included server program ("muscled") lets
its clients message each other and store information in its server-side
hierarchical database. The database supports flexible queries via
hierarchical wildcarding, and "live" updates via a subscription mechanism.

Changes: This release adds Bryan Varner's MicroMUSCLE port, a minimalist
version of the Java classes that is compatible with J2ME. The StdinDataIO
class now works under Windows. The APIs have been cleaned up some more,
changing (const char *) to (const String &) where appropriate. Several
HANDLE leaks under Windows were fixed, as well as various other minor
bugs.

About: The NIO Framework sits on top of the Java NIO library and hides
most of the complexity of plain NIO and SSLEngine. With it, one can easily
implement secure, high-performance Java network applications.

Changes: This release adds support for user-defined timeouts for
non-blocking socket connection operations. It adds some examples to the
package.

Information Management

About: Open-Xchange Server is a messaging and collaboration solution that
combines common free software packages, open standards, and Web services.
It is available as a proprietary software and as a community supported
open-source software package. It works with a broad array of browsers,
PDAs, and rich clients. Innovative connectors, called "OXtenders", enhance
customer flexibility by using open standard APIs to integrate existing IT
infrastructures or extend capabilities to mobile devices, fax servers,
back-up utilities, email archiving tools, and Samba administration tools.

Changes: The AJAX user interface was optimized, with significantly reduced
loading times and a much more responsive UI on slow computers and older
browsers like IE 6. The user interface has some significant changes, like
an improved HTML editor to compose email, and auto-completetion for known
email addresses. The permissions now inherit access rights from the parent
folder. A graphical admininistration interface is included for easy
administration.

System :: Archiving :: Compression

About: Star is a very fast, POSIX-compliant tar archiver. It saves many
files together into a single tape or disk archive, and can restore
individual files from the archive. It includes command line interfaces for
the "tar", "Sun-Tar", "cpio", "pax", and "gnutar" command-line syntax. It
includes a FIFO for speed, a pattern matcher, multi-volume support, the
ability to archive sparse files and ACLs, the ability to archive extended
file flags, automatic archive format detection, automatic byte order
recognition, automatic archive compression/decompression, remote archives,
and special features that allow star to be used for full and incremental
backups. It includes the only known platform independent "rmt" server
program.

Changes: A page aligned buffer is now also used in the -no-fifo to improve
speed. scpio now prints the CPIO message "xxx blocks" instead of the Star
statistics line. A new -cpio-statistics option also causes CPIO style
statistics to be output. An -xmeta option allows you to "extract" meta
files from a star archive that has been created with "star -c -meta". A
-link-data option allows star to add data to hard links in archives.

About: white_dune is a graphical VRML97 editor, simple NURBS/Superformula
3D modeller and animation tool. VRML97 (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)
is the ISO standard for displaying 3D data over the Web via browser plugins
("HTML for realtime 3D"). It has support for animation, real-time
interaction, and multimedia (images, movies, and sounds). white_dune can
read, create and display VRML97 files and let the user change the
scenegraph/fields. It also has support for stereoscopic view via
"quadbuffer"-capable stereo visuals, and support for 3D input devices like
a joystick, spaceball, or magnetic tracker.

Changes: Incorrect creation of already used DEF names in the Edit->DEF
dialog was fixed. A crash in scripteditor was fixed. SuperShape node
rendering was fixed. A wrong nodetype for joint nodes was fixed. The X3D
KeySensor node was added.

About: Wine is an implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix.
It does not require Microsoft Windows, but can use native Windows DLLs if
they are available. It provides both a development toolkit for porting
Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many
unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes.

Changes: Still more fixes for regression test failures. A much more
complete cryptnet implementation. WIDL is now able to generate the
oleaut32 proxy code. Many bugfixes.

[058] - Xapian and Omega 1.0.4

Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Xapian is a search engine library, scalable to collections
containing hundreds of millions of documents. It's written in C++ with
bindings for Perl, Python, PHP, Java, Tcl, C#, and Ruby. It is a highly
adaptable toolkit that allows developers to easily add advanced indexing
and search facilities to their own applications. It supports the
Probabilistic Information Retrieval model and also a rich set of boolean
query operators. Omega is a Web search application built upon the Xapian
library. It can index a Web server's document tree (including HTML, PDF,
OpenOffice, MS Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Works, WordPerfect, RTF, PS, etc.),
or data exported from arbitrary sources (e.g. SQL databases).

Changes: Performance of AND, FILTER, NEAR and PHRASE has been improved
significantly, and queries involving an OP_VALUE_RANGE filter have been
sped up about 3.5 times. Several cases that the QueryParser failed to
parse correctly have been fixed. A bug where trying to open a flint
database for reading failed if it wasn't writable was fixed. The PHP
bindings are generated with a newer SWIG snapshot, which fixes memory
leaks in wrapped constructors and methods that return a wrapped class.
