Sun, Nov 4th 2007 23:41
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.

[025] - HAproxy 1.3.13.1 (Maintenance)
by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
Sun, Nov 4th 2007 03:51
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking
About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, advanced traffic
regulation with surge protection, automatic failover, run-time regex-based
header control, Web-based reporting, advanced logging to help
trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few other
features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 10,000 hits per
second on modern hardware, even with tens of thousands of simultaneous
connections.
Changes: The configuration error detection methods have been highly
improved, and many incorrect configurations will now lead to a warning or
an error. The time in the logs was wrong on OpenBSD/sparc. TCP proxies
split into frontends and backends would silently fail; this is now fixed.
Users who experience configuration troubles should upgrade.

[027] - Himerge 0.15
by Luis Araujo (http://freshmeat.net/users/LuisAraujo/)
Sun, Nov 4th 2007 03:39
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: Himerge is a GUI for emerge (Gentoo's Portage system) written in
Haskell using gtk2hs. The main idea is to simplify browsing the entire
portage tree, and allow running the most basic and common options from the
emerge command. It also offers several handy tools, like global and local
use flags browsers, inspired by UFED (the Gentoo Linux USE flags editor).
It also uses eix (a small utility for searching ebuilds with indexing for
fast results) as a back-end command to show package information in
HTML/CSS format, so you can access a package's Web site for a quick
glance.
Changes: Multi-Tab support was added. This feature allows you to show
several panel pages (package queues, command views) for different
processes at the same time. Process handling support was improved.
Processes can now be stopped independently. Log support was added. Now
himerge will log all (or most of) the operations in the new "Log" panel
page. An important bug in the text buffers has been fixed. Himerge now
asks for confirmation for many essential operations. Some code refactoring
and small bugsfixes were done.

[033] - MathMap 1.2.2
by Mark Probst (http://freshmeat.net/users/schani/)
Sun, Nov 4th 2007 09:37
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: MathMap is a GIMP plugin and a commandline tool which allows
distortion of images and animations specified by mathematical formulae.
For each pixel in the generated image, a script is evaluated which should
return a pixel value. The script can either refer to a pixel in the source
image or can generate pixels completely independent of the source. MathMap
not only allows the generation of still images but also of animations.
Changes: Input images can now have different dimensions. The language has
been extended with a "for" loop and basic support for hypercomplex
numbers. Boolean user values can have defaults. MathMap now takes
advantage of multiple CPUs.

[034] - mpg123 0.68
by Thomas Orgis (http://freshmeat.net/users/sobukus/)
Sun, Nov 4th 2007 12:57
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3
About: Mpg123 is a fast, free and portable MPEG audio player for Unix. It
supports MPEG 1.0/2.0/2.5 layers 1, 2 and 3. For full CD quality playback
(44 kHz, 16 bit, stereo) a fast i486, Pentium, SPARCstation10, DEC Alpha
or similar CPU is required. Mono and/or reduced quality playback (22 kHz
or 11 kHz) is even possible on slower 486 CPUs.
Changes: Version 0.67 provided several bugfixes and enhancements. A
notable point is the default inclusion of fallback decoders for
MMX/SSE/3DNowExt builds for flexible rate playback. The --timeout and
--loop options were introduced for unreliable (Internet) streams, while
the old-aged-build-environment bar has been set at SunOS 4.1.2 with gcc
2.7.0. With version 0.68, a long-standing bug in the decoding of MPEG 2.5
files (8kHz, 11kHz, and 12kHz) has been fixed.

About: MyPatients is a medical records database that uses OpenOffice.org

coding, and could easily be ported to English if an English version of the
ICD10 database was available.
Changes: This release includes a new settings form for entering general
settings like the physician's name, address, etc. There is now an option
to export the blood pressure data, means, and rates over a time period to
OpenOffice.org Calc for further analysis. It is also possible to copy
blood pressure and heart rate mean values over a time period to the
LabData table with the date of the last measurement. The LabData entry
forms now display the normal values and measurement units of every test.
The ICD10 form can now start in a specific code rather than A00. Some

[047] - Revenant CMX 1.1.0
by Applied Datamatics (http://freshmeat.net/users/applieddatamatics/)
Sun, Nov 4th 2007 18:06
About: Revenant CMX is a lightweight content management system for the
non-technical user that emphasizes ease of use over the proliferation of
bells and whistles. It has been designed so that the most essential tasks
involved in deploying a small Web site can be performed in the fewest
steps possible. Many functions that require IT expertise have been
automated so that they occur silently in the background. Thus, the end
user may focus exclusively on content development tasks.
Changes: Implicit support for eAccelerator was dropped in favor of APC.
The package now transparently caches pre-built HTML pages in RAM on hosts
that have APC enabled. The media manager no longer requires PHP's fileinfo
or mime_magic extensions. This release has foolproof video MIME type
validation built in. The logo banners generated by the theme manager are
now GIFs instead of PNGs, because Internet Explorer continues to render
PNG transparencies incorrectly. This release includes a social bookmarking

Sun, Nov 4th 2007 12:52
Database
Information Management :: Records Management
About: SportsTracker is an application for recording sporting activities.
It is not bound to a specific kind of sport, as categories can be created
for all sport types, such as cycling, running, or tennis. The main
advantages are the good overview of your exercises and the easy creation
of exercise statistics for specific time ranges and sport types. Users of
heart rate monitors (Polar and CicloSport) can import, display (including
diagrams), and organize the recorded exercise data.
Changes: The main change is the port of the complete application from C#
to Java. Installation via Java WebStart is much easier, and all the Mono
dependency problems are gone. The user no longer needs to compile the
application by himself. All the diagrams are using JFreeChart now, so they
can now be zoomed, printed, or exported to images. The performance problems
in the exercise list view are gone. All translations have been created once
again (Basque, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, and Spanish) because
of the Java port.
