Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Architecture Rules is a Java library that allows a programmer to
assert code's architecture via unit tests or ant tasks. This test is able
to assert that specific packages do not depend on others and is able to
check for and report on cyclic dependencies among your project's packages
and classes. This project wraps a industry accepted JDepend to simplify
the process of maintaining a solid software architecture.

Changes: Issue 18 (Cannot extend
AbstractArchitectureRulesConfigurationTest) and Issue 20 (Should only
require Java 1.4) have been fixed.

[010] - GNU ddrescue 1.6 (Stable)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Fri, Nov 16th 2007 07:08

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.

Changes: This release skips faster over damaged areas. A new pass has been
added that trims error areas backward before splitting. Support for sparse
output files has been added. Blocks are now split at sector boundaries.
The new option "--fill" has been added. This release can resume an
interrupted retry pass instead of reinitiating it. It achieves perfect
resumability if interrupted during trimming or splitting and handles
SIGHUP and SIGTERM. The "--quiet" option quiets error messages.
Consistency checks have been added to detect bugs.

[012] - GtkPSproc 3.3b
  by Raster (http://freshmeat.net/users/scostas/)
  Fri, Nov 16th 2007 15:10

Printing

About: GtkPSproc is a GUI frontend for PSUTILS. It allows you to adjust
all programs to your printer type (for example, always sending the pages
in reverse order), to group two or more pages on a single sheet, to print
booklets, and to easily print in double-sided fashion. It is designed to
work from nearly all programs that call LPR, acting as an intermediary
between the program and LPR, but it can work alone, too.

Changes: Due to a mistake in the packaging process, the applet in version
3.3 still was using FAM. This has been fixed.

[020] - Open Computer Forensics Architecture 2.0.6pl2
  by klpd (http://freshmeat.net/users/klpd/)
  Fri, Nov 16th 2007 06:50

About: The Open Computer Forensics Architecture (OCFA) is a modular
computer forensics framework to automate the digital forensic process, to
speed up the investigation and give tactical investigators direct access
to the seized data through an easy to use search and browse interface. The
architecture forms an environment where existing forensic tools and
libraries can be easily plugged into the architecture and can thus be made
part of the recursive extraction of data and metadata from digital
evidence. It aims to be highly modular, robust, fault tolerant, recursive,
and scalable in order to be usable in large investigations that spawn
numerous terabytes of evidence data and cover hundreds of evidence items.

Changes: This release adds a workaround to make sure the indexer does not
get and/or process large files (Clucene expands its memory usage to about
four times the size of the largest file it is given to index), makes the
configure script more strict and more complete (especially with respect to
32/64 bit Linux), adds some SLES9-specific patches, and adds workarounds
for bugs in 7zip and objdump.

  Fri, Nov 16th 2007 06:46

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging

About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.

Changes: This release adds refactoring of include files, removal of
implementation functions from the pantheios namespace, and documentation.
It removes the Windows dependency that broke the build in beta 51.

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: wmii is the next generation of wmi. It is a highly customizable
keyboard-and-mouse-driven X11 window manager that supports conventional,
tabbed, and tiled window management with low memory usage and vi-like user
interaction. Due to a complete rewrite, it is highly modularized and uses a
new configuration and inter-process communication interface, which is
oriented on the 9p protocol of the Plan9 operating system.

Changes: This release allows you to move and resize windows with the
mouse, make clients visible in multiple tags, and move floating windows
partially off screen. Application-independent full-screen functionality
has been added. Support has been added for the aspect ratio window hint.
Support has been added for urgent window hints. Drag and drop in GTK apps
and xprop support. X11 window IDs are now used to identify clients instead
of an internal wmii ID.
