[014] - Gecode 2.0.0
  by Guido Tack (http://freshmeat.net/users/odiug/)
  Thu, Nov 15th 2007 23:03

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Gecode is a portable, accessible, and efficient environment for
developing constraint-based systems and applications. Gecode is radically
open for programming, meaning that it can be easily interfaced to other
systems. It supports the programming of new propagators (as implementation
of constraints), branching strategies, and search engines. New variable
domains can be programmed at the same level of efficiency as finite domain
and integer set variables that come predefined with Gecode.

Changes: New propagators were added for channeling constraints, circuits,
table constraints (extensional), incremental regular constraints
(extensional), and incremental Boolean linear constraints. Boolean
variables have a dedicated, more efficient implementation. Advisors for
incremental propagation were added. Crucial performance and scalability
improvements were made in memory management. Cleanups, more documentation,
and many new examples were added. New set variables were added with
complete domain representation. A reflection API was added to query spaces
about their propagators.

[018] - Java Parallel Processing Framework 1.0 RC1
  by Laurent Cohen (http://freshmeat.net/users/lolocohen/)
  Thu, Nov 15th 2007 09:40

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: JPPF is a computational grid framework for Java focused on
performance and ease of use. It provides a set of tools and APIs to enable
the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and distribute their
execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It features platform
independence thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your
application classes to a server, scales up to millions of nodes, has a
built-in fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.

Changes: Tasks can now be canceled and restarted remotely, as well as
configured to time out on a given date or after a given elapsed time. The
Administration console was upgraded to handle the new task management
features. A major leap in execution performance has been implemented. The
JPPF JCA resource adapter now implements asynchronous tasks submission,
removing any risk of J2EE transaction timeout. The JPPF Samples Pack
brings a set of exciting applications of JPPF to real-life problems. A
Mandelbrot fractals explorer and protein sequence alignment are included.

  Thu, Nov 15th 2007 09:40

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: Jhead is a command line driven utility for extracting digital
camera settings from the Exif format files used by many digital cameras.
It handles the various confusing ways these can be expressed, and displays
them as F-stop, shutter speed, etc. It is also able to reduce the size of
digital camera JPEGs without loss of information, by deleting integral
thumbnails that digital cameras put into the Exif header. If you need to
add Exif support to a program, this is a simple program to cut and paste
from. Many projects, including PHP, have reused code from this utility.

Changes: IPTC handling was added. The extraction of subject range from
Pentax and Fuji cameras and the extraction of focus distance from Canon
were implemented. The quiet option "-q" was added. Handling of corrupted
GPS directories was fixed.

to provide full access to server side methods. It also implements several
command line tools: memcat, memflush, memrm, memstat, and memslap (for
load generation).

Changes: An issue that occurred when no servers were defined has been
fixed. Different buffers are now kept for different connections to speed
up async efforts. Increment/decrement functions have been modified to
return uint64_t values. A bug in cases where zero length keys were
provided has been fixed. A thread cleanup issue in memslap has been
addressed. No hostname lookup on reconnect. A fix for flag settings (was
doing hex by accident). Support for the 1.2.4 server additions "prepend"
and "append".

expand at closer to commodity pricing. It supports unlimited snapshots,
snapshot mirroring (replication), and easy management of extremely large
storage pools.

Changes: VMware image improvements. NMV network and auto-tier form fixes.
The ability to preserve NMS/NMC properties during upgrades. Auto-sync
improvements in clustered environments. A memory check trigger cleanup.
The hosts check HA daemon now syncs time between nodes if a difference is

  Thu, Nov 15th 2007 11:01

Security
System :: Logging
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: NoNox is intended to help automate the defense of Internet servers
against attacks such as dictionary login attacks. NoNox monitors log files
for user-specified trigger patterns. When a pattern is seen enough times in
a given file within a given period of time, NoNox will execute a command.
The patterns, time limits, files to watch, and commands are all
user-specified. For example, if NoNox sees too many failed login attempts
from one IP address, it could execute a command that tells a firewall to
drop packets from that host, instantly cutting off the attacker.

Changes: This release repackages NoNox as a tar. It includes a
startup/shutdown script for /etc/init.d. There are minor corrections to
the documentation.

[035] - PHP Date Picker Class 1.0.7
  by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
  Thu, Nov 15th 2007 10:31

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: PHP Date Picker Class will automatically generate the required HTML
and JavaScript code that will make a pop-up window appear to let the user
choose a date from a calendar. The selected date will be passed to a
user-specified control from the calling page. Every aspect is customizable
by modifying a template and a related CSS file. The format in which the
date is returned, the default date and time period, and the first day of
the week can be selected.

Changes: This release fixes a bug where on some installations, months
could not be changed. It fixes a bug where selectableDatesRange couldn't
be used without also using selectableYearsRange. The datepicker now pops
up in the center of the screen. A new property, "showGoToCurrentMonthYear"
was added which, when set to TRUE, will show another button that when
clicked sends the datepicker back to current month/year.

Database :: API
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: SchemaCrawler is a platform (OS and database) independent command
line tool to output your database schema and data in a readable form. The
output is designed to be diff-ed with previous versions of your database
schema. SchemaCrawler is also an API that improves on standard JDBC
metadata.

Changes: New features include the ability to get result-set metadata. The
schema info level is no longer an enumeration, but a class that is used to
specify details on what aspects of the schema need to be retrieved. There
is now an easier way to access foreign keys from the foreign key column
itself, via isPartOfForeignKey(), and getReferencedColumn() on the Column
class. Bug fixes were made to delivering all relevant license files, the
way foreign key update and delete rules on Oracle are reported, and the
"equals" comparison on all schema objects.

About: system-config-printer configures a CUPS server. It uses the CUPS
API (bound to Python with pycups) to do this. The communication with the
server is performed using IPP. As a result, it is equally able to
