Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Architecture Rules is a Java library that allows a programmer to
assert code's architecture via unit tests or ant tasks. This test is able
to assert that specific packages do not depend on others and is able to
check for and report on cyclic dependencies among your project's packages
and classes. This project wraps a industry accepted JDepend to simplify
the process of maintaining a solid software architecture.

Changes: This release adds a new Ant task and support for programmatic
configuration or mixed configuration (XML and programmatic).

[003] - AWFFull 3.8.2
  by Steve McInerney (http://freshmeat.net/users/spm999/)
  Wed, Nov 14th 2007 13:47

Internet :: Log Analysis

About: AWFFull is a Web server log analysis program, forked from
Webalizer. It adds a number of new features and improvements, such as
GeoIP capability, internationalisation, style changes via CSS, extended
front page history (more than 12 months), resizable graphs, and lots of
backend changes and simplification. The long term goal is to focus on Web
Analytics, not just Web Reporting.

Changes: This is a major upgrade from 3.7.5. The most obvious improvement
is the reporting of "at a glance" viewable Web Analytics to the monthly
reports, based on published metrics and ratios: Stickiness (aka inverse of
Bounce Rate), Single Access, and Popularity. There are many backend code
modifications to ease long term code maintenance.

Scientific/Engineering

About: BALLView is an extensible viewer for bio-molecular structures. It
provides all standard models and offers rich functionality for molecular
modeling and simulation, including molecular mechanics methods (AMBER,
CHARMM, and MMFF94 force fields), continuum electrostatics methods
employing a Finite-Difference Poisson Boltzmann solver, secondary
structure calculation, molecular editing and docking. Since BALLView is
based on BALL (the Biochemical ALgorithms Library), it is easily
extensible on the level of C++ code. In addition, it provides a Python
interface with Integrated Development Environment features to allow
interactive rapid prototyping.

Changes: An integrated molecule editor, the Merck Molecular Force Field
(MMFF 94), and an automated download of structures from PDB and PubChem
were added. The visualization was extended with volume rendering and field
lines for electrostatics, improved cartoon and ribbon models,
non-photorealistic shading, and off-screen rendering. In addition,
numerous improvements to the interface were made. A new autobuild script
now allows a much simpler installation of BALL and BALLView. Support for
the PowerPC architecture (on Linux) was added, and the support for MacOS
was improved.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The Kitikat Java Framework is a powerful but simple Datastore
processing framework. A Datastore represents an in-memory copy of data. A
program may retrieve the data from a data source, such as a relational
database, manipulate the data, and then propagate the updates of the data
back to the original data source or to a different data source. Once the
data is retrieved, it is a disconnected, data source independent version
of the data. A change history of the data is maintained to provide dynamic
updates to a data source, and there are several levels of concurrency
control provided for multi-user environments.

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: lftp is a sophisticated command line based file transfer program.
Supported protocols include FTP, HTTP, SFTP, and FISH. It has a
multithreaded design allowing you to issue and execute multiple commands
simultaneously or in the background. It also features mirroring
capabilities and will reconnect and continue transfers in the event of a
disconnection. Also, if you quit the program while transfers are still in
progress, it will switch to nohup mode and finish the transfers in the
background. Additional protocols supported: FTP over HTTP proxy, HTTPS and
FTP over SSL. There are lots of tunable parameters, including rate
limitation, number of connections limitation and more.

Changes: A major code cleanup was done. The "repeat --weak" option was
added. The new ftp:use-stat-for-list setting allows faster directory
listing. The new "eval" command with the -f option allows complex aliases.
Encoded parts of FTP URLs are now sent untranslated to the FTP server. The
mirror options --on-change, --depth-first, --no-empty-dirs, --ascii, and

  Wed, Nov 14th 2007 04:31

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Mesa is a 3-D graphics library which uses the OpenGL API
(Application Programming Interface). Mesa cannot be called an
implementation of OpenGL since the author did not obtain an OpenGL license
from SGI. Furthermore, Mesa cannot claim OpenGL conformance since the
conformance tests are only available to OpenGL licensees. Despite these
technical/legal terms, you may find Mesa to be a valid alternative to
OpenGL. Most applications written for OpenGL can use Mesa instead without
changing the source code.

Communications
Communications :: BBS
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards

About: Blursoft MetaForum utilizes AJAX to generate a unique forum
experience. Threads and posts auto-update in real time, with no refreshing
required. User-based moderation ensures only the most interesting topics
emerge above your viewing threshold, and private threads invite multiple
users to engage in a private conversation. Complete with advanced quoting
mechanisms, CSS based templates, and statistically normalized user
rankings, MetaForum is a fresh, fast, efficient, and completely new
perspective on forums and message boards.

Changes: This release includes a vastly optimized SQL implementation to
increase the performance of MTL by 200x in some cases. It also includes an
all new redesigned control bar at the top, with "thread filter" views for
All, Hot, Private, Subscribed, etc. A "subscribed threads" feature has
been added with the option to email notifications upon activity. A feature
to hide private threads from the main thread listing that have no unread
posts has been added. Forum administrators can add custom CSS styles to
their forum through the admin panel. There are countless other bugfixes,
optimizations, and improvements.

[026] - Monitorix 1.1.0
  by Jordi Sanfeliu (http://freshmeat.net/users/Mikaku/)
  Wed, Nov 14th 2007 22:38

System :: Monitoring

About: Monitorix is a lightweight monitoring tool designed to monitor as
many services as it can. At this time, it monitors from the CPU load and
temperatures to the users on the system. Network device activity, network
service demand, and even the devices' interrupt activity are also
monitored. It uses RRDtool as its logging and graphing back-end. The
current status of any corporate UNIX/Linux server with Monitorix installed
can be accessed via a Web browser.

Changes: This release added support for the Gentoo and Slackware Linux
distributions. The way data is collected in the Kernel Usage graph was
changed and the graph is now more accurate. The main page form method was
changed from POST to GET in order to be able to remove the old
/cgi-bin/monitorix.cgi and call localhost.cgi directly. localhost.cgi was
renamed as monitorix.cgi and the /cgi-bin/monitorix directory was removed
as it will not longer be used. Some more enhancements were made and
several bugs were fixed.

[048] - Spoon for Java 1.4
  by Renaud Pawlak (http://freshmeat.net/users/renaudpawlak/)
  Wed, Nov 14th 2007 14:32

About: Spoon is a Java program processor that fully supports Java 5. It
provides a complete and fine-grained Java metamodel where any program
element (classes, methods, fields, statements, expressions, etc.) can be
accessed both for reading and modification. It can be used for validation
purposes, to ensure that your programs respect some programming
conventions or guidelines, or for program transformation, by using a pure
Java template engine. It provides an Eclipse plugin (SpoonJDT) that allows
for tight integration of Spoon within the Eclipse environment. With
SpoonJDT, a set of validations and transformations packaged as a Spoonlet
can occur on the fly, and the reports are well-integrated into the Eclipse
JDT.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that prevented new classes from being
generated with the substitution API. It has migrated to Eclipse 3.3
(generics warnings have been fixed). In substitution, the default implicit
constructor is ignored. Null type on string literals concatenation has been
fixed. A line number issue in Javadoc comments has been fixed. A
getReferencedTypes method has been added to CtElement. Import in
compilation units has been added. A spoon.reflect.cu package has been
added for compilation units and related classes. Incorrect import in
CtTypeReferenceImpl has been fixed. There is support for template

About: sshutout is a daemon that periodically monitors log files, looking
for multiple failed login attempts via the Secure Shell daemon. The daemon
is meant to mitigate what are commonly known as "dictionary attacks," i.e.
scripted brute force attacks that use lists of user IDs and passwords to
effect unauthorized intrusions. The sshutout daemon blunts such attacks by
creating firewall rules to block individual offenders from accessing the
system. These rules are created when an attack signature is detected, and
after a configurable expiry interval has elapsed, the rules are deleted.

[054] - Virtual Ideal Functionality Framework 0.2

About: Virtual Ideal Functionality Framework is a framework for creating
efficient and secure multi-party computations (SMPC). Players, who do not
trust each other, participate in a joint computation based on their
private inputs. The computation is done using a cryptographic protocol
which allows them to obtain a correct answer without revealing their
inputs. Operations supported include addition, multiplication, and
comparison, all with Shamir secret shared outputs.

Changes: Overloaded arithmetic operators were implemented, so "w = x + y *
z" now adds and multiplies the three shares as expected. The API
documentation was updated. This version was released using a Distutils
setup.py script.

About: VisIt is an interactive parallel visualization and graphical
analysis tool for viewing scientific data. Users can quickly generate
visualizations from their data, animate them through time, manipulate
them, and save the resulting images for presentations. VisIt contains a
rich set of visualization features so that you can view your data in a
variety of ways. It can be used to visualize scalar and vector fields
defined on two- and three-dimensional (2D and 3D) structured and
unstructured meshes. It was designed to interactively handle very large
data set sizes in the terascale range, and works well down to small data
sets in the kilobyte range.

Changes: This release includes a number of bugfixes and new features. The
Spreadsheet plot has improved controls, and can now be created by picking
on other plots. VisIt now reads several new file formats, including CCSM,
Raw triangle, CCM, Claw, ddcMD, M3D, SAS, and VLI. Protein Databank,
H5Part, and ChomboVis readers have also been improved, and support has
been added for reading gzip/bzip2 compressed files. Simulations can now
display multiple strip charts. Bugs with the Threshold, Index select,
Revolve, Transform, and Elevate operators have been fixed. The
www.visitusers.org wiki site was also created.

It alleviates the need to to spend much time creating Web pages to show
off photographs, and also allows visitors to download original
high-resolution images to print good quality pictures.

Changes: This release adds the ability to add/change picture descriptions
through Web interface. The name of the authenticated user or IP address
should match the allowed list. A better bit-decoding method for EXIF
information about flash has been implemented; it is correct and
informative now. A problem with filenames with non-standard characters
(~!@#$^*&%, etc.) has been fixed.
