System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: Atop is an ASCII full-screen performance monitor that is capable of
reporting the activity of all processes (even if processes have finished
during the interval), daily logging of system and process activity for
long-term analysis, highlighting overloaded system resources by using
colors, etc. At regular intervals, it shows system-level activity related
to the CPU, memory, swap, disks, and network layers, and for every active
process it shows the CPU utilization, the memory growth, priority,
username, state, and exit code.
Changes: This release added colors and (on request) markers in the reports
generated by the command atopsar to highlight critical resource
consumption. Several major bugs were fixed in atop/atopsar, mainly for
larger and busier systems.

Tue, Nov 20th 2007 07:55
Software Development :: Testing
About: benerator is a framework for creating realistic and valid
high-volume test data, used for testing (unit/integration/load) and
showcase setup. Metadata constraints are imported from systems and/or
configuration files. Data can imported from and exported to files and
systems, anonymized, or generated from scratch. Domain packages provide
reusable generators for creating domain-specific data such as names and
addresses, internationalizable in language and region. benerator is
strongly customizable with plugins and configuration options.
Changes: This version delivers new Generators, Sequences, and methods for
generating unique data. Several bugs were fixed in Generator life cycle
handling. New current-time-generators were added. File encodings are
supported for all file I/O. Generator chaining is supported in descriptor
files. The Web site now features online support forums, RSS feeds, and an
announcement mailing list.

Tue, Nov 20th 2007 03:15
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
System :: Filesystems
About: CDfs is a file system for Linux systems that `exports' all tracks
and boot images on a CD as normal files. These files can then be mounted
(e.g. for ISO and boot images), copied, played (audio tracks), etc. The
primary goal for developing this file system was to `unlock' information
in old ISO sessions. The file system also allows you to access data on
faulty multi session disks, e.g. disks with multiple single sessions
instead of a multi session.
Changes: This version has been adapted for Linux kernel 2.6.23.

[028] - LimeSurvey Stable 1.53+
by Carsten Schmitz (http://freshmeat.net/users/cronostitan/)
Tue, Nov 20th 2007 03:19
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a Web application that
interacts with MySQL or MSSQL to develop surveys, publish surveys, and
collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created, data can be
inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen which presents
each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data entry screen. It
includes the capacity to generate individualized "tokens", so that
invitations can be issued to participants. It also has the capacity to set
conditions on whether questions will display (branching), numerous question
types, and a basic statistics function.
Changes: This new release includes several small bugfixes, especially in
the template editor. Some existing languages were updated and Macedonian,
Estonian, and Bosnian languages were added.

[030] - Manitou-Mail 0.9.8
by Daniel Vérité (http://freshmeat.net/users/dgv/)
Tue, Nov 20th 2007 15:03
Communications :: Email
About: Manitou-Mail is a 3-part database-driven email system: a PostgreSQL
database for the storage engine, a Perl daemon that does send/receive and
customizable analysis/indexing of the mail, and a mailer-like user
interface (C++/Qt) connected to the database. The general goal is to
provide a database-style architecture to handle email, not just for
storage but at the application level too. Fast and shared access,
fine-tuned security, robust storage, consistent backups, auditing,
statistics, and customized add-ons are possible.
Changes: The user interface has been ported to Qt4. Attachments handling
has been improved, along with various minor bugfixes. A GPL'ed Windows

[031] - Mauve 2.1.0
by Aaron Darling (http://freshmeat.net/users/darling/)
Tue, Nov 20th 2007 06:45
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: Mauve constructs global multiple alignments of rearranged genome
sequences. It also provides an interactive display of multi-species
sequence conservation and any annotated features in those genomes. It can
be applied for sequence comparison of both finished or incomplete genomes
in multiple contigs. The resulting display is useful for identifying
functional chromosomal regions under selective pressure and for performing
ortholog assignment based on conserved gene order. Mauve writes global
alignments in eXtended Multi-FastA (XMFA) format, a phylogenetic guide
tree in Newick format, and the location of genomic islands. It identifies
the breakpoints of genomic rearrangement and can provide a reduction of
the genomes to a signed permutation matrix suitable for inference of
rearrangement history.
Changes: This release includes alignment accuracy improvements,
visualization improvements, and numerous bugfixes. The alignment algorithm
has been parallelized to run on multi-core CPUs, and 64-bit builds are
included. The user's guide has been rewritten to include Progressive
Mauve.

[032] - MeTA1 1.0.PreAlpha22.0
by Claus Assmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/casmx/)
Tue, Nov 20th 2007 23:48
About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to
avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central
control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is
secure and efficient.
Changes: This version allows you to specify a list of characters that can
act as delimiters in the local part of an email address. This makes it
simpler to deal with broken Web sites that do not allow the plus sign as a
valid character in an email address. Moreover, smar reads the list of
nameservers from /etc/resolv.conf unless at least one nameserver is
explicitly specified in the configuration file or the option
use_resolvconf is turned off.

About: StreamCruncher is an event processor. It supports a language based
on SQL that allows you to define "event processing" constructs like
sliding windows, time-based windows, partitions, and aggregates. Such
constructs allow for the specification of boundaries (some are time
sensitive) on a stream of events that SQL does not provide. Queries can be
written using this language, which in turn can be used to monitor streams
of incoming events. It also provides a feature similar to materialized
views. Joins and sub-queries are also supported to allow event
co-relation. A database is used underneath to do the heavy lifting.

About: Stunnix CXX-Obfus is a code obfuscator for C and C++ source code.
It converts source code into highly a mangled form, making it extremely
difficult for competitors or customers to study, analyze, reuse, and
re-work, while fully retaining functionality of the original code. It has
many options to control all aspects of code hiding, and has full support
for all syntax constructs. It is designed for multi-file projects with
mixed C and C++ source and arbitrary heavy use of the C preprocessor. It
includes advanced tools to exclude API symbols from mangling.
Changes: Now Project Manager can extract symbols defined in any set of
header files, for using them in exceptions later. Exceptions for all
header files shipped with Visual Studio 2005 are now included. These
exceptions are loaded only for those header files that are used in the
code being protected. An issue with handling of pure virtual functions has

About: YouGrabber is a lightweight, multi-threaded command line
YouTube.com video downloader with proxy support, made from scratch in ANSI
C. Although it has only been tested on GNU/Linux systems, it should
compile/run on other POSIX platforms.
Changes: The code has been heavily sanitized. Many bugfixes and code
cleanups were done. Two memory leaks were fixed. Network errors are now
properly displayed in the download frame.
