[001] - abcm2ps 5.6.1 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Wed, Nov 21st 2007 08:38

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: Several bugs affecting previous releases were fixed.

  by Julien Danjou (http://freshmeat.net/users/jdanjou/)
  Wed, Nov 21st 2007 13:00

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: awesome is a window manager for X. It manages windows in several
layout modes, such as tiled or floating. Each layout can be applied
dynamically. Windows can be grouped by tags, and each window can be tagged
with one or multiple tags, and each tag can have its own layout.

Changes: This release uses a new configuration file format. It fixes bugs
in resize_hint, correctly resets default bar position on toggle, fixes
incorrect column computation in multi-column tiled layout, fixes several
bugs with Mplayer in Xinerama mode, and has better computation for moving
windows. It adds an option to center the pointer on the focused client.
nmaster/ncol/mwfact and layout can be specified by tags at config and run
time. Cairo is used to render the status bar. Each physical screen can now
be configured independently for colors, status bar, font, etc.

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Games/Entertainment :: Simulation

About: Booruatsukaigaumai is a one-key desk game using OpenGL 3D scene
rendering. Your task is to guide a number of red balls through 6
different levels full of blocks, holes, and gates. You have to make the
balls go through as many gates as possible, which earns you the score
points. However, you only have one key to control the desk tilt, which
makes balls roll to the right (when the key is pressed) or to the left
(when the key is released). Any other movement of the balls is controlled
only by gravity and interaction with blocks, holes, and other balls. Even
if the principle seems to be very simple, the game can be quite
challenging.

Changes: Collisions with holes was fixed.

designed for large-scale magazine-style Web sites. It is a 100% Perl
application using Apache/mod_perl and MySQL, as well as numerous CPAN
modules. It provides a powerful and easy to use story and media editing
environment for magazine editors, as well as a complete template
development environment for web designers. On the back-end, Perl
programmers can customize Krang to control the data entered in the story
editor, and add code to drive the templates to build output.

Changes: This release is a complete rewrite of the CMS user interface. The
new UI is fully AJAX-enabled and redesigned for greatly enhanced ease of
use. In addition, dozens of functional changes have been made to the CMS
to make common tasks easier, and to add many new capabilities. The result
is a much easier, faster, and more robust user experience. Major feature
changes in this release include automatic slug generation, the ability for
any story type to be a category cover, and a redesign of the story editor.

[031] - Make CD-ROM Recovery 0.9.8
  by Gratien D'haese (http://freshmeat.net/users/gdha/)
  Wed, Nov 21st 2007 10:26

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Installation/Setup

About: mkCDrec (Make CD-ROM Recovery) makes a bootable (El Torito)
disaster recovery image, including backups of the Linux system to one or
more CD-ROM(s) (multi-volume sets). Otherwise, the backups can be stored
on another disk, NFS/CIFS disk, or (remote) tape. After a disk crash or
system intrusion, the system can be booted from the CD-ROM and one can
restore the complete system as it was. It also features disk cloning,
which allows one to restore a disk to another disk (the destination disk
does not have to be of the same size, as it calculates the partition
layout itself). Currently, ext2, ext3, minix, MS-DOS, FAT, VFAT, Reiserfs,
XFS, and JFS filesystems are supported. It can restore disks in Software
RAID and LVM mode. It supports the One Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR)
mode, which simulates a bootable CD-ROM on tape.

Changes: Default booting of the initial ramdisk happens via the ramfs file
system. Support has been added for FedoraCore 7, and BusyBox has been
updated to 1.7.2. All #!/bin/sh were replaced by #!/bin/bash so that
scripts continue to work under newer Ubuntu versions.

About: memtester is a user-space utility for testing the memory subsystem
in a computer to determine if it is faulty. It does a good job of finding
intermittent faults and non-deterministic faults. It has many tests to
help catch borderline memory. memtester should compile and run on any 32-
or 64-bit Unix or Unix-like system.

Changes: This release adds a startup check for the amount of memory being
greater than the possible address space. This prevents user confusion on
32-bit systems that use addressing tricks to have over 4GB total system
memory. There are documentation updates.

  by Adeodato Simó (http://freshmeat.net/users/adeodato/)
  Wed, Nov 21st 2007 12:48

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: Minirok is a small music player for the K Desktop Environment. As
its name hints, it's modelled after Amarok, but with a reduced set of
features. In particular, it is designed to cover all the needs and wishes
of the author, leaving everything else out. The look and feel is almost
identical to Amarok's, though. The main interface is a tree view of the
filesystem, with a playlist that can only be populated via drag and drop.
There is no collection built from tags, so it's targeted at people whose
collections are already structured in a tree at the filesystem level.
Searches can be performed both in the tree view and the playlist.

Changes: A new crop function. Compatibility with lastfmsubmitd 0.36. The
systray icon will show the currently playing track as a tooltip.
Improvements in the reading of track lengths. Some minor bugfixes.

[039] - Open Virtual Machine Tools 2007.11.21
  by Ragavan S (http://freshmeat.net/users/ragavan/)
  Wed, Nov 21st 2007 21:45

About: The Open Virtual Machine Tools (open-vm-tools) are an open source
implementation of VMware Tools. They are a set of guest operating system
virtualization components that enhance the performance and user experience
of virtual machines. The tools are currently composed of kernel modules for
Linux and user-space programs for all VMware supported Unix-like guest
operating systems. They provide several useful functions like file
transfer between a host and guest, improved memory management and network
performance under virtualization, and general mechanisms and protocols for
communication between host and guests and from guest to guest.

Changes: This release features kernel modules for FreeBSD, including an
experimental port of HGFS to FreeBSD, a vmsync driver on Linux to make VM
snapshots consistent, the missing xferlogs utility and a few other utility
scripts, and various bugfixes throughout the code. The code now builds on a
wider variety of systems.

  by Sans Pareil Technologies, Inc.
  Wed, Nov 21st 2007 21:18

About: The SPT Relational Database Web Tool (RWT) is a simple application
that can help developers connect to databases configured as a DataSource
in the application server or directly through JDBC. The RWT application
attempts to replicate basic features found in the popular Aqua Data Studio
application. Per user settings (saved connection parameters, saved
queries), single and batch query processing, a history browser, multiple
query browsers, a tree view of database metadata, and other features are
supported. Full source code is available.

Changes: The total number of rows in the table/view is now displayed when
viewing table/view details. Clicking on the number of rows now displays a
data viewer component that can be used to walk through all the rows in the
table/view. A user controller limitation on number of characters displayed
in the results of the query executor was implemented. Previously this was
hard-coded in the application.

About: The goal of WebSQL is to run on every DBMS, and to provide a unique
tool to access and manage a database through a simple Web interface.

Changes: This release provides edit, delete, update, and insert operations
in a DataGrid. It also allows you to filter and sort data.

[057] - xjobs 20071122

System
Utilities

About: xjobs runs several jobs in parallel and limits the number of jobs
running at once so that every processor of the machine is busy, but not
overloaded. A batch of long-running processes invoked from the shell are
normally executed one after another, no matter how many processors are
available. xjobs allows batching those jobs while still keeping the
machine busy. The interface of xjobs is similar to that of xargs.

Changes: This version fixed an abort on unresolvable executable, fixed
some memory leaks, and returns with EXIT_FAILURE if at least one job
failed.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: XMLToaster is an XML-to-Relational mapping tool. If you already
know SQL, its learning curve is extremely shallow, and writing a mapping
to generate XML from database tables or to save XML into a database is
made easy with a powerful mapping language with SQL-like syntax. It
supports complex mappings, and you can map either plain XML or XML
schemas.

Changes: Two new options were added to the xmltoaster command line tool.
You can now output directly to a file using the "-out" parameter and
switch off all output to the console except the generated XML using the
"-silent" parameter.

Information Management
Text Editors

About: Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl It aims to bring
the concept of a wiki to your desktop. Every page is saved as a text file
with wiki markup. Pages can contain links to other pages, and are saved
automatically. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a non-existing
page. Pages are ordered in a hierarchical structure that gives it the look
and feel of an outliner. This tool is intended to keep track of TODO lists
or to serve as a personal scratch book.

Changes: Internationalization support was fixed and translations were
added for Dutch, Spanish, Czech, Swedish, and Portuguese. Bugs were fixed
for repositories containing symlinks and for the "Edit link" key binding.
