[001] - AntiRight 3.6
  by Jeffrey Bedard (http://freshmeat.net/users/jefbed/)
  Fri, Nov 23rd 2007 16:06

Desktop Environment
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: AntiRight provides gtkshell, an interface for scripting a GUI.
Around this interface, applications can be defined at the command line.
This allows rapid application development, leaving the developer to focus
on core application logic. Also included are ACE, a sample desktop
implementation, and gshterm, a vte-based terminal emulator with
transparency, anti-aliased fonts, and xterm-compatible command
specification.

Changes: This release features undo capabilities for the text editor
widget, the addition of improved icons for the ACE Deskbar, a file
management panel that is more useful than the iconic file manager, code to
verify the presence of new configuration keys introduced as ACE evolves,
icon-only toolbars for gtkshell app-mode, a simple calculator (interface
to bc), fixed text editor scrolling, an initial xshell-based panel, left
alignment of menu labels, and icons for each Deskbar menu item.

[002] - Architecture Rules 2.0.2
  by MikeNereson (http://freshmeat.net/users/MikeNereson/)
  Fri, Nov 23rd 2007 09:46

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Architecture Rules is a Java library that allows a programmer to
assert code's architecture via unit tests or ant tasks. This test is able
to assert that specific packages do not depend on others and is able to
check for and report on cyclic dependencies among your project's packages
and classes. This project wraps a industry accepted JDepend to simplify
the process of maintaining a solid software architecture.

Changes: This release fixes getConfiguration() scope too weak usability
(issue 21) and adds package.html and overview.html maintainability (issue
9).

[005] - BlueProximity 1.2.1 (Nightly Builds)
  by Lars Friedrichs (http://freshmeat.net/users/highno/)
  Fri, Nov 23rd 2007 04:20

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Desktop Environment :: Tools

About: BlueProximity helps add a little more security to the desktop. It
does so by detecting a certain Bluetooth device, most likely a mobile
phone, and keeping track of its distance. If it is moved away from the
computer and the distance is above a certain level (no measurement in
meters is possible) for a given time, it automatically locks the desktop
(or starts any other shell command wanted). Once away, the computer awaits
its master's return: if the device is nearer than a given level for a set
time, the computer unlocks without any interaction (or starts any other
shell command wanted).

Changes: The proximity command now only executes if proximity is detected
and not paused, not always as before. Some tooltips should help the
initial user. Channel setting is now possible via a GUI, and a device can
be scanned for usable channels. There are more error messages if external
packages are missing.

[016] - fwsnort 1.0.3
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Fri, Nov 23rd 2007 15:31

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: fwsnort translates snort rules into an equivalent iptables ruleset.
By making use of the iptables string match module, fwsnort can detect
application layer signatures which exist in many snort rules. fwsnort adds
a --hex-string option to iptables, which allows snort rules that contain
hex characters to be input directly into iptables rulesets without
modification. In addition, fwsnort makes use of the IPTables::Parse Perl
module in order to (optionally) restrict the snort rule translation to
only those rules that specify traffic that could potentially be allowed
through an existing iptables policy.

Changes: A major signature update from Bleeding Threats. This update
includes a large number of new signatures with PCRE statements, with an
emphasis on detecting SQL injection attacks directed at internal Web
servers from external sources. The ability to interpret PCRE statements
that include simple string matches separated by ".*" and ".+" as multiple
iptables string matches has been added. The asn1 keyword has been added to
the unsupported list.

not try to provide extensive algebraic capabilities and a simple
programming language but instead accepts a given language (C++) and
extends it by a set of algebraic capabilities.

Changes: A memory leak in ginac_yylex() was fixed. Memory leaks in
mul::eval() and power::eval() were fixed. Macro checking for the version
of libreadline was fixed (Mac OS X). A broken preprocessor instruction in

System :: Emulators

About: plus4emu is a portable emulator of the Commodore Plus/4 computer.
It supports Windows and POSIX platforms (32 bit Windows, 32 and 64 bit
Linux, and Mac OS X have been tested). It implements accurate, high
quality hardware emulation, but the system requirements are higher than
that of most other emulators.

Changes: The ACIA 6551 registers at $FD00-$FD0F were implemented, which
are automatically enabled for configurations with 64K or more RAM. This is
not complete yet, but the basic functionality works. Video recording can
also be done in RLE8 format now, which allows smaller file sizes than

About: SHOGUN is a machine learning toolbox whose focus is on large scale
kernel methods and especially on Support Vector Machines (SVM). It
provides a generic SVM object interfacing to several different SVM
implementations, all making use of the same underlying, efficient kernel
implementations. Apart from SVMs and regression, SHOGUN also features a
number of linear methods like Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Linear
Programming Machine (LPM), (Kernel) Perceptrons, and algorithms to train
hidden Markov models. SHOGUN can be used from within C++, Matlab, R,
Octave, and Python.

Changes: This release fixes a memory leak in the libsvm wrapper,
re-enables error checking in the matlab interface, frees memory after
batch computation, fixes a parallel bug related to batch computation,
contains several python-modular interface cleanups, and adds a fix for the
Chi2 kernel, a Python build fix, and a double free fix for combined
kernels. gcc is now used to generate build dependencies, and building
shogun on interix is now possible. SVMOcas and GaussianShiftKernel methods

Software Development

About: Turbulence is a general BEEP server that provides many site
administration features. Turbulence is built on top of the Vortex library
and is extensible through modules and allows you to implement server side
profiles that are used and combined later with other profiles through run
time configuration. Turbulence is written to make it easy to develop and
deploy BEEP profiles, allowing developers to provide a convenient
configuration interface to site administrators and end users.

Changes: This release includes many new features and bugfixes, mostly
located at the Turbulence core and mod-sasl. An initial implementation for
turbulence regression has been added. Now mod-sasl allows virtual hosting
configuration, which allows you to configure auth-db associated to
particular serverName configurations. mod-sasl has a new XML-RPC remote
administration interface (SASL-RADMIN) which allows third party
applications to perform SASL administrative tasks. A security update
allows mod-sasl to store passwords hashed with MD5 and SHA-1.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Vortex Library is a BEEP Core protocol implementation, following
the standard defined in RFC 3080 and RFC 3081. It has a clean and
easy-to-use API that allows you to write new application protocols very
quickly. Vortex Library has been developed within the Af-Arch project, and
it is being used at the data transport layer. However, Vortex Library can
be used independently of Af-Arch.

Changes: Several bugs have been fixed and integrated into the regression
test. The frame joining code was updated to reduce the alloc/realloc
pattern, improving speed for Windows platform. The ANS/NUL bug which was
preventing sending of several files was fixed. Some new API functions have
been added to manage connections created (used by Turbulence), profile
channel counting, and getting channel pool references.
