Database
Documentation
Information Management

About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.

Changes: The test suite was not updated in 3.0.3. The static includes were
left out. The order of the eval method's arguments was inconsistent. A
common object now handles all attribute processing.

About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.

Changes: The create method for model elements now models the create method
for Nodes. A common object now handles all attribute processing. A name is
now an attribute; otherwise problems with round trips would occur.
Symbolic references are now expressed as text content, which avoids
round-trip issues.

[003] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.8.8n (Stable)
  by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 05:09

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ support,
protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, experimental IPv6 support,
multi-interface/aliased-IP support, and extensive user definable logging
with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It has plugin support to add
extra features (like SSH Brute Force protection and (Racoon) IPSEC
support). It is easy to configure and highly customizable. A filter script
that makes your firewall log more readable is also included.

Changes: The multiroute plugin was updated. Miscellaneous fixes and tweaks
were made.

[004] - Astaro Security Linux 7.103 (Stable 7.X)
  by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 05:10

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Astaro Security Linux is an all-in-one network security gateway
that includes a firewall, intrusion protection, virus protection, spam
protection, URL filtering, and a VPN gateway. Features include stateful
packet inspection, deep packet filtering, intrusion detection and
prevention, portscan detection, content filtering, virus detection for

[006] - BeeDiff 0.20
  by Piotr Pszczolkowski (http://freshmeat.net/users/PiotrPsz/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 16:22

Software Development

About: BeeDiff is a graphical file comparator. It compares two text files
and highlights differences in colors.

Changes: Users can give paths of files to compare as parameters.
Comparison statistics are displayed in a status bar. The application saves
its size and position on exit. A history of compared files (combo boxes
over text windows) has been implemented, which is saved on exit. A bash
install script has been created that rebuilds the program and installs it
in a "beediff" subdirectory of the user's home directory.

[007] - Butterfly Container 1.9.11-beta
  by Jakob Jenkov (http://freshmeat.net/users/jjenkov/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 05:44

About: Butterfly Container is a Java dependency injection container. It is
smaller, yet more flexible and easier to use than Spring, Pico, and Guice
(at least in the developers' opinion). Instead of XML, Butterfly Container
is configured using a simple, flexible, Java-like configuration language,
or by plugging plain non-annotation, non-reflection Java factories into
the container. There are no external dependencies.

Changes: This version fixes a circular factory dependency problem when
using Java factories. It also makes it easier to preserve type safety in
Java factories. This version has been performance tested against plain
Java instantiation and against Google Guice.

[010] - collectd 4.3.0
  by Florian Forster (http://freshmeat.net/users/flocto/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 00:00

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: collectd is a small and modular daemon which collects system
information periodically and provides means to store the values. Included
in the distribution are numerous plug-ins for collecting CPU, disk, and
memory usage, network interface and DNS traffic, network latency, database
statistics, and much more. Custom statistics can easily be added in a
number of ways, including execution of arbitrary programs and plug-ins
written in Perl. Advanced features include a powerful network code to
collect statistics for entire setups and SNMP integration to query network
equipment.

Changes: Simple threshold checking and notifications have been added to
the daemon. The hostname can now be set to the FQDN automatically.
Inclusion files have been made more flexible by allowing shell wildcards
and including entire directories. The new libvirt plugin is able to
collect some statistics about virtual guest systems without additional
software on the guests themselves. The perl plugin has been improved a
lot. It can now handle multiple threads and is now longer considered
experimental. The csv plugin can now convert counter values to rates.

[012] - DrasticTools 0.6.11
  by otb (http://freshmeat.net/users/otb/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 16:18

Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: DrasticTools can be used to visualize table data in a Grid
(DrasticGrid), in a Cloud (DrasticCloud), and on a Google Map
(DrasticMap). The grid supports pagination, sorting, and in-line editing
of data. This tool is the successor of MySQLPHPGrid.

Changes: DrasticGrid, -Map, and -Cloud now have events such as OnClick,
OnMouseOver, and OnChange. The class DrasticCommon has been removed.
Communication between drastictools components can be done via events such
as the Onclick event. Drastic* classes use the Mootools Options facility.
There is better support for various character sets, and better detection
of primary key columns. A bug in inserting special characters has been
fixed.

[013] - email-reminder 0.7.2
  by Francois Marier (http://freshmeat.net/users/fmarier/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 23:13

Communications :: Email
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Email-reminder allows users to define events that they want to be
reminded of by email. Possible events include birthdays, anniversaries,
and yearly events. Reminders can be sent on the day of the event and a few
days beforehand. It uses a cron job to checks for events and send reminders
once a day, and a simple GUI that allows users to edit the reminders they
want to receive.

Changes: This version fixes a problem where your reminders file (written
in the XML format) can become unreadable by email-reminder-editor after
you save some accented characters in the event name. It also makes it
possible to send UTF-8 encoded email messages so that accented characters
can make it to the emails.

[014] - Fakeroot Next Gen 0.08
  by Shachar Shemesh (http://freshmeat.net/users/TheSun/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 10:34

Adaptive Technologies
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Fakeroot-ng runs a program while fooling it into thinking it is
running with root privileges. When the program does something that only
root can do (e.g. create a device file), fakeroot-ng emulates the
appropriate system calls so that the program gets a consistent view of its
actions. Unlike the original fakeroot, fakeroot-ng uses the ptrace
interface, which means that it will (soon) support emulating chroot jails
properly.

Changes: Many code cleanups. The Linux x86-64 platform is now partially
supported. Basic running works, but recursive debuggers and 32-bit
programs are not (well) supported. The "openat" issue has really been
fixed this time. A program "calc_defaults" that attempts to detect values
for a new platform's platform_specific.h has been added. A new platform
porting HOWTO has been written.

  by dezperado (http://freshmeat.net/users/dezperado/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 10:49

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: FIM (Fbi IMproved) aims to be a highly customizable and scriptable
image viewer targeted at the users who are confortable with software like
the Vim text editor or the Mutt mail user agent. It is based on the Fbi
image viewer and works in the Linux framebuffer console (it is not an X
program). It features the ability to filter the list of images with
regular expressions, Vim-like autocommands, command line autocompletion
and history, completely customizable key bindings, external/internal
scriptability, and much more.

Changes: Internal windowing (with splitting, resizing, swapping) support.
xcf, .fig, .dia, and .svg files are now viewable via wrapper calls.
Interactive command iteration (in the [n]<command key> form) has been
introdocued. fim will try to run under screen and over SSH connections
now. A custom framebuffer device, fonts, and gamma are supported. There
are enriched compile-time options via the ./configure script. Vim-styled
variable scoping g:,i:,v:,w: (local variables) has been added. Some bugs
have been fixed. New variables and commands have been introduced.

[017] - Firewall Builder 2.1.17
  by Vadim Kurland (http://freshmeat.net/users/vkurland/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 10:36

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for
various firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects
and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI
and policy compilers are completely independent, which provides for a
consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different firewall
platforms. It currently supports iptables, ipfilter, ipfw, OpenBSD pf,
Cisco PIX and FWSM, and Cisco routers access lists.

Changes: This release improves stability of the policy importer on 64-bit
platforms, supports import of iptables policies that use the TCPMSS
target, fixes problems with built-in RCS on Windows when the user does not
have administrator's rights, and comes with a nearly 100% complete
Brazilian Portuguese translation.

Database
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Security

About: GreenSQL is a database firewall used to protect databases from SQL
injection attacks. GreenSQL works in a proxy mode and has built-in support
for MySQL. The logic is based on evaluation of SQL commands using a risk
scoring matrix, as well as blocking known DB administrative commands (such
as DROP and CREATE).

Changes: This release contains an assortment of bugfixes and stability
enhancements. The new risk engine mechanism is much more powerful, and the
db firewall is able to cope with complicated SQL queries and find SQL
tautologies. While installing the Debian/Ubuntu package, the configuration
database will be created automatically. This release is much more user
friendly. Many bugs were fixed.

About: KAlarm lets you configure personal messages to be displayed,
commands to be executed, or emails to be sent at scheduled times. Among
its options, it allows you to choose the message font and color, how often
to repeat, whether to display an advance reminder, whether to speak the
message or play a sound when it is displayed, and whether to cancel the
alarm if it can't be triggered on time (e.g. if you are logged out at the
time). As well as using the graphical interface to configure alarms, you
can use the command line, and there is a DCOP interface for other

[024] - knotview 0.2.0rc1
  by phyx (http://freshmeat.net/users/xenn/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 13:19

Desktop Environment :: Tools

About: Knotview is a crossing between a concept mapper, a wiki, and a
database. The main idea behind it is to split information into small
chunks (knots) and make links between them. Visual organisation is not
enforced: links can be drawn arbitrarily. With Knotview, only the user
decides how the information must be shown. Creating links pointing towards
files or URLs is possible, and make it very easy to gather scattered
information into a single place. Knotview can be used as a powerful
bookmark manager, a mind mapper, a small database, and much more.

Changes: Knotview has been broken into a client (knotview) and a server
(kdbd, aka knotdb server). This way, two instances of knotview can be
launched at the same time and use the same kdb file. This is the first
step leading (in future versions) to several small programs, each
connecting to the kdb server.

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: Labels would give incorrect linewraps in the scrollbackwindow.
The enter key will now add a markerline in all windows. A segfault when
saving buffer in the scrollback window was fixed. A horizontal scroll for
non-linewrapped windows was added.

[045] - Shared Memory Arena 0.0.2
  by lanceman (http://freshmeat.net/users/thereallanceman/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 23:06

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Shared Memory Arena (shm-arena) is an application programming
interface (API) library and utility programs for inter-process shared
memory. It uses a name space to access shared memory between unrelated (or
related) processes and a dynamic allocator. Name strings are used in place
of underlying virtual address numbers to access shared memory. This is
analogous to the way file names, are used to access regular computer files
in place of the underlying inode numbers. An underlying allocator class
uses a structured shared memory arena file which will grow or shrink
automatically as more segments are requested from the malloc-like calls,
or destroyed from free-like calls.

[047] - sudo 1.6.9p13
  by Todd Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/courtesan/)
  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 10:41

About: Sudo (su "do") allows a system administrator to give certain users
(or groups of users) the ability to run some (or all) commands as root
while logging all commands and arguments. Sudo operates on a per-command
basis, it is not a replacement for the shell.

Changes: Sudo will now set the nproc resource limit to unlimited on Linux
systems to work around Linux's setuid() resource limit semantics. On PAM
systems the resource limits will be reset by pam_limits.so before the
command is executed. Sudo now has SELinux support that can be used to
implement role based access control (RBAC). A role and (optional) type may
be specified in sudoers or on the command line. These are then used in the
security context that the command is run as. This release also fixes a
Kerberos 5 compilation problem with MIT Kerberos.

  Wed, Feb 20th 2008 21:42

About: Synbak is an application designed to unify several backup methods.
It provides a powerful reporting system and a very simple interface for
configuration files. It can make backups using rsync (via crypted ssh,
rsync, SMB, and CIFS protocols), tar (tar, tar.gz, and tar.bz2) archives,
tape (even using multi-loader changer tapes), MySQL databases, Oracle
database, LDAP directories, CDR/CD-RW/DVR/DVD-RW, wget HTTP/FTP mirrors,
and more. It can generate final reports via email, HTML pages, and RSS
feeds. Developers can easily write new backup methods, reports, and
translations.

Changes: The ISO-8601 date format is used in reports details. The synbak
spec file was reworked for inclusion into the official Fedora repository,
using the Fedora Packaging Guidelines. Some fixes were made to the
nonerrors.strings files used by method scripts to exclude non-error
messages. Some fixes were made to the autoconf files.

About: WebGUI is a content management framework built to allow average
business users to build and maintain complex Web sites. It is modular,
pluggable, and platform independent. It was designed to allow the people
who create the content to manage it online, rather than content management
taking up the time of busy IT staff. WebGUI comes with a full host of
features including shopping cart, subscriptions, forums, photo galleries,
FAQs, link lists, blogs, SQL reports, a Web services interface, and a very
configurable user privilege and profiling system.

About: Wimpiggy is a library for writing EWMH-compliant, compositing
window managers using Python and GTK+. The goal is to make writing a
window manager as easy as writing a PyGTK application. This library can be
used to build a trivial, working window manager in only about 40 lines of
code.

Changes: Wimpiggy was formerly part of the window manager 'parti'. With
this release it has been split off into a separate package and is
installable and usable independently. Support has been added for
compositing, model/view separation for client windows, key binding, event
dispatching that doesn't leak memory, and various client hints such as
icons and struts.

About: X Persistent Remote Applications (xpra) is "screen for X". It lets
you run applications remotely (like ordinary X or VNC), but unlike
ordinary X, these applications are "persistent" if you lose your
connection, or even if you want to switch to another computer. Also unlike
VNC, they are ordinary applications on your desktop managed by your window
manager, not trapped in a box.

Changes: This version supports exporting both ordinary and
override-redirect windows, handles mouse and keyboard input to managed
windows, has a protocol layer that adapts to the characteristics of the
underlying network, and is substantially usable for most purposes.
