  by 123fcserver (http://freshmeat.net/users/123fcserver/)
  Tue, Feb 19th 2008 02:10

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Communications :: Chat :: Unix Talk
Communications :: Conferencing

About: 123 Live Help Chat Server allows sales and support staff to invite
Web site visitors to begin one-to-one chat. Users are greeted by a
friendly notification that the staff would like to chat with them to offer
assistance. The invitation won't be blocked by a pop-up killer. Clients can
also request help from a staff member. It supports real-time text chat and
optional video chat. Chats can be transferred from one staff member to
another, and a Canned Answers Agent has predefined answers to serve
clients more efficiently and eliminate typing of repetitive answers.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development

About: Arachnida is an embeddable Web server. It uses the OpenSSL library
and consists of a small framework for networking that allows you to
asynchronously accept and handle connections using a "new connection
handler" to handle new connections and a "data handler" to handle incoming
data. This makes it possible to add support for any TCP/IP based protocol
by just adding a handler. A test suite is included.

Changes: This version adds the Agelena generic logging library, as well as
a significant update to the documentation.

  Tue, Feb 19th 2008 05:45

Adaptive Technologies
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The Azuki Framework is a Java application framework designed to
resolve various problems in the software development lifecycle. These
goals are achieved by splitting the software conception into two main
stages: creation of independent components and definition of component
dependencies (weaving). The latter is performed with a graphical tool
named "the weaver". By representing component interactions using different
perspectives, the weaver provides a straightforward way to analyze an
application's architecture, allowing deep and easy customization of its
behavior.

Changes: This release contains two new connectors for Java applications
(or applets) and a Adobe Flex 2 client, providing RPC functionalities with
the framework.

[005] - benerator 0.4.1
  by Volker Bergmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/vbergmann/)
  Tue, Feb 19th 2008 11:02

Software Development :: Testing

About: benerator is a framework for creating realistic and valid
high-volume test data, used for testing (unit/integration/load) and
showcase setup. Metadata constraints are imported from systems and/or
configuration files. Data can imported from and exported to files and

[009] - Clonezilla 1.0.9-10 (Clonezilla live)
  by Steven (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevenshiau/)
  Tue, Feb 19th 2008 02:17

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: Clonezilla is a partition or disk cloning tool similar to Symantec
Ghost. It saves and restores only blocks in use on the hard drive if the
file system is supported. For unsupported file systems, dd is used
instead. It has been used to clone a 5 GB system to 40 clients in about 10
minutes.

Changes: This release is based on Debian etch 4.0r3. The newer kernel
2.6.22-4 from backports is used. It contains DRBL 1.8.2-38, Clonezilla
2.2.4-12, and ntfs-3g 1.2129-2. The Debian template ISO is created by live
helper instead of live package. A new partclone package was added in DRBL
so that it can image HFS+ and reiser4 partitions experimentally. Some bugs
were fixed and some other functions were added.

[010] - Common UNIX Printing System 1.3.6
  by Michael Sweet (http://freshmeat.net/users/easysw/)
  Tue, Feb 19th 2008 23:44

Internet
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries

About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley
command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP")
as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect)
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network
printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing
options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image
file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP
Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript
files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON,
HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.

Changes: This version fixes some platform-specific build problems, Web
interface issues, PDF and PostScript filter option handling, and a number
of minor bugs discovered during routine code audits.

[011] - Distributed Checksum Clearinghouse 1.3.82
  by Vernon Schryver (http://freshmeat.net/users/vjs/)
  Tue, Feb 19th 2008 23:46

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: Distributed Checksum Clearinghouse (DCC) is a system of clients and
servers that collect and count checksums related to mail messages. The
counts can be used by SMTP servers and mail user agents to detect and
reject bulk mail. DCC servers can exchange common checksums. The checksums
include values that are "fuzzy", or constant across common variations in
bulk messages.

Changes: Deal with thrashing problems with large mmap() spaces in recent
Linux kernels. Lines in log files for DNSBL hits were changed to include
the IP address from the DNSBL. A DNSBL is probed only once for several -B
results with distinct SMTP 4yz or 5yz rejection messages.

About: gwhois is a generic whois client (and server) which strives to
know the right server to query for each and every top level domain and IP
 address. You can ask gwhois about a domain or IP address, and it will
automatically forward your query to the appropriate server. It even
queries whois servers that can only be reached by a Web form, and outputs
the results as text. It can be used as a client or as a relaying server,
so you can use your normal whois client to ask gwhois.

Changes: The support for 63 top level domains was fixed or modified (e.g.
where whois is no longer available). The TLDs .arpa, .asia, and .tel were
added, as was a whois for the subdomains of Centralnic. Support for the no

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: JPPF is a computational grid framework for Java focused on
performance and ease of use. It provides a set of tools and APIs to enable
the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and distribute their
execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It features platform
independence thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your
application classes to a server, scales up to millions of nodes, has a
built-in fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.

Changes: A new networking tool, the TCP port multiplexer, was implemented
to enable JPPF to work in firewalled environments. It enables the routing
of all JPPF network traffic through a single port, without any
modification to the existing applications. A new node management feature
was added that enables updating a node's execution thread pool
dynamically. A new node monitoring feature was added, allowing the
collection of the node's system and Java environments. Several bugs were
fixed that caused errors to be raised when management was disabled in a
server or a node.

  Tue, Feb 19th 2008 10:13

Database :: Front-Ends
Desktop Environment :: Tools

About: JSqsh is a Java reimplementation of a console based (i.e.
non-graphical) database query tool called sqsh. Jsqsh combines the ability
to run SQL queries against any database with a JDBC driver along with much
of the functionality of a Unix shell, such as piping the results of
queries out to external programs (grep, more, etc.), expanding variables,
redirecting output to files, command line editing, tab-completion of
object names, and more.

Changes: This release has a number of new features and bugfixes, including
commands to automatically generate SELECT, INSERT, and CREATE TABLE
statements, and to display output in a variety of graphical (GUI) formats.
Command line option handing has been greatly improved and expanded, and tab
completion of SQL statements has been augmented to recognize additional SQL
keywords.

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: mxallowd is a daemon for Linux Netfilter (using libipq) which
implements a slightly improved nolisting mechanism. It requires your name
server to be configured to return two MX IP addresses, and the one with
higher priority must not run a mail server on port 25. mxallowd blocks
attempts to connect to the mail server unless the sender tries to connect
to the first mail server before the second. Since most spammers will
attempt direct connections to each mail server, they will be blocked.

Changes: DNS lookups are now done in a separate thread. This way, the main
process doesn't block for such a long time anymore and therefore can handle
many more connections.

About: Rule Set Based Access Control (RSBAC) is a Free Software security
extension for current Linux kernels. It is based on the Generalized
Framework for Access Control (GFAC) by Abrams and LaPadula and provides a
flexible system of access control based on several modules. All security
relevant system calls are extended by security enforcement code. This code
calls the central decision component, which in turn calls all active
decision modules and generates a combined decision. This decision is then
enforced by the system call extensions.

Changes: This release works both for Linux kernel version 2.4.36 and
version 2.6.23.15. It now supports secure delete on XFS and JFS, and the
new kernel parameter rsbac_list_recover allows you to register lists even

About: Tagsistant is a semantic filesystem for Linux and BSD kernels. It
uses directories as tags and allows file tagging by simply putting files
inside desired tag directories. The path you are walking by is your query,
e.g. tagsistant/tag1/AND/tag2/OR/tag3/AND/tag2/. Being a low level
interface, a filesystem can be instantly used by shell users, file
managers, or CGI. A plug-in architecture is under development to add
autotagging functionality for common files like .mp3, .ogg, .jpeg, .html,
and .xml. A transparent ontology engine is also planned to allow users
create a relationship schema between directories by moving one inside the
other.

[060] - view3dscene 2.4.0
  by Michalis Kamburelis (http://freshmeat.net/users/kambi/)

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: view3dscene is a viewer for VRML 1.0, VRML 2.0 (aka VRML 97), 3DS,
MD3, Wavefront OBJ, and Collada files. It supports viewing the scene in
the "Examine" mode and walking in the virtual world with features such as
collision detection and gravity. Rendering is done using OpenGL. A
built-in ray-tracer allows the generation of images with more effects
(like shadows and mirrors) and conforming precisely to the VRML 97
lighting specification. The program can also convert files from 3DS, MD3,
and other formats to VRML and pretty-print VRML files.

Changes: Bump mapping was implemented; you can observe it (and experiment
with various bump mapping methods available) if the VRML model specifies
normal maps. GLSL shaders in VRML files are supported (specified using X3D
syntax). Anti-aliasing is available. There is basic support of Collada
model format (both 1.3.x and 1.4.x versions). Wavefront OBJ format
handling wa improved. Examine mode allows you to rotate and move the scene
by mouse dragging. The --screenshot command-line option was implemented, to
take screenshots in batch mode. Various "fill modes" were implemented.
