Database :: Front-Ends
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: Alexandria is a GNOME application to help manage a book collection.
It retrieves book information (including cover pictures) from several
online libraries, allows you to search for a book (either by EAN/ISBN,
title, authors, or keyword), can import and export data into ONIX,
Tellico, and EAN/ISBN-list formats, generates Web pages from your
libraries, allows marking your books as loaned, saves data using the YAML
format, features an HIG-compliant user interface, shows books in different
views that can be filtered or sorted, and handles book rating and notes.

Changes: This release adds an export function for iPod Notes, removes the
refresh button from the toolbar, adds asynchronous loading and visual
feedback to make the GUI feel more responsive, adds Amazon ECS 4.0 support
to replace the old AWS 3.x Amazon provider, adds tooltips to the icon view
of books, and fixes many bugs.

About: Animal Shelter Manager is a complete computer solution for animal
sanctuaries, rescue shelters, and veterinary surgery clinics. It features
complete animal and owner management, document generation, flexible
reporting, charts, Internet Web site publishing, and more.

Changes: This release has many cosmetic improvements and fixes in many
areas of the application. The icons have all been overhauled to look a lot
better, and form layouts have been tweaked to get the most space where it
is needed. Media handling is now much better. Database handling is far
better, and ASM can no longer be left in a broken state.

Database
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Information Management

About: CloverETL is Java-based framework for data integration and creation
of data transformations. It is component based and follows the concept of
transformation graphs which consist of individual nodes/components
performing simple (or complex) operations on data. Any transformation can
be defined as a set of interconnected nodes through which data flows.
CloverETL can be used as a standalone application or be embedded into a
larger project.

Changes: This release adds improvements to graph execution and database
communication. It extends the Clover Transformation Language. Most
notably, it introduces new graph execution management which allows running
several transformation graphs within the same JVM at the same time. It's
also possible to limit the amount of CPU resources used by Clover during a
graph's runtime. Transformations can now be run in transaction mode and can
be reset to their original states, allowing fast processing of data in
small chunks in a way similar to database "triggers".

About: Dragon Player is a KDE video player with an uncluttered interface
and smart features. A bundled KPart integrates it into Konqueror. Dragon
Player remembers settings specific to each video, not specific to the
application (the playback position, the preferred window size, etc.).

Changes: The locking of the volumeSlider if the mute is active was
removed. An issue was fixed where if the user pressed ESC in the play
media dialog, it wouldn't reappear. Pressing "M" causes mute. The program
returns to the logo when playback is explicitly stopped. A new icon was
added. A crash on double click in KPart was fixed. The volumeSlider is

[026] - H2 Database Engine 1.0.67 (2008-02-22)
  by ThomasM (http://freshmeat.net/users/ThomasMueller/)
  Fri, Feb 22nd 2008 05:08

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: H2 is an SQL database engine written in Java that implements the
JDBC API. Embedded, server, and clustering modes are available. A browser
based console application is included. The database has strong security
features. Disk based and in-memory databases and tables are supported.

Changes: A new FILE_READ function has been implemented to read from a file
or URL. The SQL statement CREATE TABLE AS SELECT now supports a column
list. The CSV tool now supports a custom lineSeparator. A user now has all
rights on his own local temporary tables. The H2 Console has been
translated to Dutch. When using multiple connections, empty space was
reused too early sometimes; this could corrupt the database when
recovering. CREATE INDEX on a table with many rows now uses less memory.

[036] - massXpert mass spectrometry package 1.7.0
  by filippo rusconi (http://freshmeat.net/users/FilippoRusconi/)
  Fri, Feb 22nd 2008 17:25

Education
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: The massXpert software package is a mass spectrometry environment
for linear (bio-)polymers. It inherits all the innovations of GNU
polyxmass. It allows the detailed definition of new polymer chemistries in
the XpertDef module. These chemistry definitions are then used in the
desktop calculator-like mass calculator (XpertCalc) and in the
sophisticated polymer sequence editor and (bio-)chemical/mass
spectrometric simulations module (XpertEdit). Available simulations
include polymer and monomer chemical modifications, polymer sequence
cleavage, gas-phase fragmentation, m/z ratio calculations, and more.

Changes: This release fixes a serious crash when computing the elemental
composition of a polymer sequence that bore a formula-defined modification
as opposed to selecting a modification from the list. This bugfix triggered
a wave of code cleanup and the coding of a new, more robust way of
modifying the polymer sequence. The polymer sequence file format changed,
but older formats are handled with a versioning scheme that was coded in
this release.

[047] - Portable Linux Processor Affinity 1.1
  by Jeff Squyres (http://freshmeat.net/users/jsquyres/)
  Fri, Feb 22nd 2008 04:01

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: PLPA is an attempt to solve the problem of multiple API's for
processor affinity within Linux. Specifically, the functions
sched_setaffinity() and sched_getaffinity() have numbers and types of
parameters depending on your Linux vendor and/or version of GLibc. This is
quite problematic for applications attempting to use processor affinity in
Linux for compile-time, link-time, and run-time reasons. The PLPA provides
a single processor affinity API that developers can write to in order to
get both consistent behavior and binary compatibility across different
Linux installations (assuming that you have an executable that is
otherwise binary Linux portable).

Changes: The ability to understand (socket,core) tuples for specific
process placement was added, as opposed to just specifying Linux virtual
processor IDs. The plpa-taskset executable was also added, which
understands the same command line syntax as the "taskset" command, but
also understands (core@socket) nomenclature.

provides tools for sheet metal unbending and crash tests, libraries of
standard mechanical parts (ANSI, DIN) and symbols, mechanical part
calculations, and tools for working with bills of materials (BOMs) and
title blocks. VariCAD supports STEP, STL, IGES, DWG, and DXF file formats.

Changes: This release includes support for 3D threads (threads of bolts,
screws, and nuts, including library parts, threaded holes, etc.). It has
improvements in shells and surface development, new 3D kernel capabilities
(e.g. Boolean intersection and an improved 3D chamfer tool), a new tool for
spherical solids, new BOM and title blocks features, and more.

About: WACS (Web-Based Adult Content Server) is a suite of programs that
manages photo sets and video clips of an adult nature. It runs on a home
Linux/Unix server and creates a personalized adult Web server in which to
store, peruse, and catalogue a personal collection of adult material. Its
many features include model catalogs, attribute-based searching,
randomized highlights, new addition lists, and a flexible bookmark
mechanism.

Changes: The search system has seen a lot of attention. The ability to
search models by photographer worked with and by nationality was added. A
big revamp was done to how results are displayed. The download and
unpacking system has been upgraded to properly handle video clips, to make
it easier to search and update. The download system has also had a big
revamp and now gets its priorities right. Wacky new junkyard programs were
added: one to download selected models' complete collections to your laptop
and another to create degrees of separation charts for the lesbian
liaisons.
