[001] - Abstract Accounting 0.1a1.2
by Sergey Yanovich (http://freshmeat.net/users/yanychar/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 10:37
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
About: Abstract provides a basic flow-based accounting model. It supports
processing of multiple economic resources. It automatically calculates the
value of accounting transactions given information on resource transfers.
This also includes automatic revenue recognition and profit/loss
calculation on a per-transaction basis.
Changes: This stability release fixes a critical rounding bug in
accounting. Thanks to the double layered structure, all primary data is
intact and may be recovered easily. The stability of the installation
process on Win32 is also greatly improved thanks to build system
modifications.

[002] - advene 0.28
by Olivier Aubert (http://freshmeat.net/users/oaubert/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 04:48
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Multimedia :: Video
About: Advene (Annotate Digital Video, Exchange on the NEt) is aimed at
providing a model and a format to share annotations about digital video
documents (movies, courses, conferences, etc.), as well as tools to edit
and visualize the hypervideos generated from both the annotations and the
audiovisual documents. Teachers, moviegoers, etc. can use them to exchange
multimedia comments and analyses about video documents. The project also
aims at studying the way that communities of users (teachers, moviegoers,
students, etc.) will use these self-publishing tools to share their
audiovisual "readings", and to envision new editing and viewing interfaces
for interactive comment and analysis of audiovisual content.
Changes: Along with usability enhancements, this version offers a new
finder view a-la Mac OS X and a more flexible quicksearch behavior
(multiple keywords, exclude keywords). The timeline view now supports
selecting a range of annotations and displays screenshots along the
timescale. New actions are available in dynamic views (text-to-speech
synthesis, PlaySoundClip, and more).

[003] - ajaxWM 0.2.5-r1
by Dennis Felsing (http://freshmeat.net/users/r0q/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 10:40
About: ajaxWM is a window manager in a Web browser, a terminal emulator,
and an SSH proxy. It allows remotely controlling a computer even when
there is a firewall and packet analyzer in between, blocking everything
aside from HTTP(S) connections. Because the ajaxWM client runs in any
Javascript-capable Web browser, you can even use it when you are not
allowed to install any software, for example at an Internet café, at
school, or at work.
Changes: This release ignores unknown characters in escape sequences.
Compatibility for Python < 2.5 has been fixed.

[006] - Astaro Security Linux 7.104 (Stable 7.X)
by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 04:56
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Astaro Security Linux is an all-in-one network security gateway
that includes a firewall, intrusion protection, virus protection, spam
protection, URL filtering, and a VPN gateway. Features include stateful
packet inspection, deep packet filtering, intrusion detection and
prevention, portscan detection, content filtering, virus detection for
email and Web traffic, profile handling, IPSec, SSL, and PPTP VPN
tunneling, spam blocking, proxies for HTTP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, DNS, VoIP,
SOCKS, and Ident, logging, and reporting. The WebAdmin, the Install
Wizard, and Up2Date service make it easy to install, manage, and update.
Changes: This small bugfix release resolves an Up2date verification issue

[007] - Blitz templates for PHP 0.5.11
by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 15:50
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Blitz templates is a fast PHP template engine written in C and
compiled as a PHP extension. It started as a php_templates replacement,
but developed into much more. It is based on extensible template
controllers (custom view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates
(simple logic in HTML). Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest
template engines for PHP, even though it's not trivial and makes Web
application closer to a smart MVC-like architecture model with maximal
separation of HTML from your code. It was designed for big high-load
Internet projects with a lot of complex presentation logic.
Changes: Contexts of included files are parsed properly now. Include
statements can use variables {{ include($var) }}. The string variables '0'
or "0" are "false" in if statements (a PHP compatibility fix).

[008] - BlueProximity 1.2.5 (Testing)
by Lars Friedrichs (http://freshmeat.net/users/highno/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 13:33
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Desktop Environment :: Tools
About: BlueProximity helps add a little more security to the desktop. It
does so by detecting a certain Bluetooth device, most likely a mobile
phone, and keeping track of its distance. If it is moved away from the
computer and the distance is above a certain level (no measurement in
meters is possible) for a given time, it automatically locks the desktop
(or starts any other shell command wanted). Once away, the computer awaits
its master's return: if the device is nearer than a given level for a set
time, the computer unlocks without any interaction (or starts any other
shell command wanted).
Changes: This is a beta release in preparation for 1.2.6. The main new
feature is support for multiple devices to detect. It also includes minor
bugfixes and code cleanup. Logging has been enhanced a bit. Misbehaving
action commands, namely not ending ones, should no longer make bp hang.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: cpt aims to be running in front of any HTTPS server. It forwards
all requests that don't call for a "CONNECT .." to the normal HTTPS
server. There is no error handling for mistaken requests; they go straight
to the default server. A request that doesn't pass the conditions is passed
forward too, and the Web server will handle it (with the default error
page). Users should be unaware that cpt is running as a proxy.

by moz (http://freshmeat.net/users/mozillagodzilla/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 04:48
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: CrissCross is a small cross-platform C++ library for console and
file I/O, CPU identification (CPUID), hashing (MD2, MD4, MD5, SHA-1,
SHA-256, SHA-512, Tiger), sockets (TCP and UDP only currently), and data
structures (LList, DArray, RedBlackTree, AVLTree, SplayTree, etc). It is
designed to run on Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Mac OS X, and
even the Nintendo DS. Other platforms may become supported upon request.
The main idea is to provide the ability to write a program using identical
calls on the major platforms without needing to rewrite code.
Changes: MD2, MD4, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512, and Tiger hash methods
were added. Nintendo DS console application support is now available
through devKitARM. CPUID was updated to detect features listed in the
December 2007 Intel CPUID spec. A major (but rarely occurring) AVLTree
flaw has been corrected.

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Text Processing
About: Cypher is an AI program that generates the .rdf (RDF graph) and
serql (SeRQL query) representations of plain language input, allowing
users to speak plain language to update and query databases. With robust
definition languages, Cypher's grammar and lexicon can quickly and easily
be extended to process highly complex sentences and phrases of any natural
language, and can cover any vocabulary. Equipped with Cypher, programmers
can begin building next generation semantic Web applications that harness
natural language.
Changes: This release fixes a state machine bug that prevented the
'restricts' rule on lexeme from being acknowledged. It adds support for
the cypher.output.includeEntailments property in the engine.properties
file; setting it to TRUE allows all entailments of a frame to be generated
in the output.

[015] - flashdist 20080228
by Chris Cappuccio (http://freshmeat.net/users/chrisc/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 13:34
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Flashdist is an embedded OpenBSD installer for flash disks, hard
disks, and pseudo disks. It keeps the entire system mounted read-only
during normal operation for minimal chance of failure. It installs an
entire set of system utilities and manual pages (targeted towards
networking features) in less than 32MB of disk or flash space. The
distribution list can be customized to target other applications, or to
use even less space.
Changes: Flashdist now installs necessary tools for future system
upgrades, including ftp (for FTP/HTTP get capability) and various shell
tools. Installed systems are marked with a version number for upgrade
reference. Manual pages are compressed to meet the 32MB flash target.
growimg.sh no longer relies on growfs (now it works in virtually any
situation, and will even shrink an image)

[028] - Pinot 0.83
by Fabrice Colin (http://freshmeat.net/users/colinf/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 10:35
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: Pinot is a D-Bus service that crawls, indexes your documents, and
monitors them for changes. It is also a GTK-based user interface that
enables you to query the index built by the service or your favorite Web
engine, and display and analyze the results. It makes full use of advanced
indexing and search facilities offered by Xapian, features language
detection, dynamic document summaries, easy labelling of documents, and
internal support for common file types. The D-Bus interface allows easy
integration with other applications.
Changes: Initial support for CJKV indexing and searching was implemented.
Stemmed terms are taken into consideration when building extracts. The
Google plugin was updated. The display of results extracts and crawler
errors in the Status window was fixed. Also fixed were the premature
ending of directory crawling, build flags mismatch, and compilation with
GCC 4.3. The Spanish translation was updated.

[032] - rsyslog 3.12.0 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 05:08
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for on-demand disk buffering, reliable syslog
over TCP, writing to databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and many more),
fully configurable output formats (including high-precision timestamps),
the ability to filter on any part of the syslog message, on-the-wire
message compression, and the ability to convert text files to syslog. It
is a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and able to work with the same
configuration file syntax.
Changes: Complex expression support inside filters was added. It supports
filters with boolean, string, and arithmetic operations. For example, the
following can be used to select syslog messages: "if $syslogfacility-text
== 'local0' and $msg startswith 'DEVNAME' and ($msg contains 'error1' or
$msg contains 'error0') then /var/log/somelog". Those filters work
together with the rest of the logic, including dynamic filename generation
and templates. No other new features or bugfixes are included, so there is
no urge to update for users not interested in the new functionality.

[033] - Scala 2.7.0-final (Scala 2)
by Stephane Micheloud (http://freshmeat.net/users/s_micheloud/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 04:56
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Scala is a modern multi-paradigm programming language designed to
express common programming patterns in a concise, elegant, and type-safe
way. It smoothly integrates features of object-oriented and functional
languages including mixins, algebraic datatypes with pattern matching,
genericity, and more. It is well integrated with Java and .NET: the Scala
compiler produces standard Java class files or .NET assemblies, and
Java/.NET libraries and frameworks can be used without glue code or
additional declarations.
Changes: A few bugs were fixed.

[034] - SCZ 0.7 (Image-SCZ)
by kindman (http://freshmeat.net/users/kindman/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 05:14
System :: Archiving :: Compression
Utilities
About: SCZ is a set of simple, portable, light-weight file compression and
decompression utilities. Simple compress and decompress subroutines can be
linked and called within applications to compress or unpack data on the
fly. These functions can also be used through stand-alone utilities. The
initial set of routines implements a lossless compression algorithm, so
restoration and decompression are perfect.
Changes: Issues with the SCZ photo image compression utilities reading
binary files on some platforms were cleaned up. Unlike the core SCZ
functions which implement perfect lossless compression, the image routines
apply a lossy method appropriate for images. They achieve high compression
ratios with little image degradation.

[043] - Warsow 0.42
by hangy (http://freshmeat.net/users/Hangman5386/)
Thu, Feb 28th 2008 13:36
Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
About: Warsow is a standalone, eSports-oriented FPS game. It is based on
Qfusion, an advanced modification of the Quake 2 engine. It features
fast-paced gameplay focused on trix (trick jumps) and art of movement.
War§ow features a complete power-up system, including weak and strong fire
mode for each weapon in all "normal" gametypes as well as Warshell (battle
shield) and Warshock (quad damage) for team-based gametypes. Its
cartoonish graphics use cel shading with a style that is similar but not
identical to Manga.
Changes: This version fixes several gameplay critical bugs (such as the
challenger queue in duel and duel arena being broken in 0.41) and some
smaller glitches. It comes with some smaller changes to the UI and
WarsowTV, and adds a new "operator" feature that gives privileged players
some more power over the server without the need to control it with rcon.
Moreover, demos can now be watched with seek and pause, like in a normal
media player, and a WarsowTV server can now replay demos to several
viewers.
